Zhou Yi had no idea what orders were being issued from the depths of that gloomy castle. He didn't even know the castle existed. But just as the conspiracies brewing in an anthill beneath your feet are irrelevant to you, did it really matter? The answer was obvious.
As if he had completely forgotten the night's events, Zhou Yi resumed his normal life, acting as if nothing had happened.
He lived in his mother's villa, basking in her profound care. Occasionally, he and Zhou Lan attended banquets hosted by the British upper class, where he played the part of the man of the hour. As the Chairman of Sun Crown Group, he naturally became someone many sought to curry favor with. However, Zhou Yi's stance was clear.
He declared he was here solely for a vacation and rest, wishing to be undisturbed. Using this as a shield, he naturally dispelled any inappropriate intentions others might have had. Status and position determined who held the initiative. Unfortunately for the declining British Empire, they truly had no one capable of wresting that initiative from Zhou Yi's grasp.
So, Zhou Yi's days became very comfortable. He rested, toured London, and occasionally chatted over tea with Susan, who came to visit. It was simple yet fulfilling, and in a sense, quite pleasant. But only Zhou Yi knew that he wasn't as relaxed as he appeared.
He still had a purpose: he was constantly waiting for news from the vampires. To be honest, he strongly doubted whether Selena was even working for him seriously, because he hadn't received any updates up until now. Then one day, just as he was about to inspect her progress, a message arrived from Selena.
Emilia had appeared. This was good news for Zhou Yi, as his patience was nearly exhausted. Resolving this matter as quickly as possible was now his top priority.
Night fell. Zhou Yi left his room and headed to the location Selena had specified—a seemingly empty mansion. It was said to be the former stronghold of the Victor Family, but now, only the dead ghosts resided there.
Whether vampires had souls or not, Zhou Yi didn't know. That was the Grim Reaper's domain, and he felt no urge to go have a chat with Lady Death just yet.
Having located Selena outside the mansion, Zhou Yi materialized instantly beside her.
"Where is Emilia?"
Though his sudden appearance startled her, Selena quickly suppressed her panic. She pointed toward the mansion and whispered, "The Elder has just returned. I believe she has already discovered the troubles within the family."
"Excellent. Let's go," Zhou Yi said, a wide grin spreading across his face as he strode toward the mansion. "I have no time to waste like this."
Selena's expression immediately darkened. Having witnessed Zhou Yi's power, she was terrified that her few remaining clansmen might inadvertently provoke him. His lack of patience meant his tolerance was razor-thin, and she couldn't even imagine the consequences if things went wrong.
"My Lord, let me lead the way!" she hastily ran ahead of him, her voice a low plea as she hurried toward her former home.
Zhou Yi smiled at the little scheme she was plotting in her mind and let her lead him into the vast mansion.
The once magnificent residence was now as gloomy as a haunted house. Not a single light flickered, and not a single sound could be heard. Emilia was no fool; she had noticed the abnormalities within the family upon her return. Thus, she had been extremely cautious, ordering even her trusted subordinates to hide.
It was as if they had never returned at all. If Selena hadn't been constantly monitoring the mansion's activities and knew they had indeed returned, she wouldn't have believed anyone was still present in this empty estate.
She led Zhou Yi deeper and deeper, all the way down into the mansion's subterranean depths. This was the place where the Elders once slept and transferred power. But now, it was also completely deserted. All the former Elders had been murdered, and only Emilia had survived. The thought filled Selena's heart with bitterness.
However, her bitter mood did not hinder her actions. She knew exactly what she needed to do.
Dropping to one knee in the center of the hall, Selena addressed the empty space, her voice booming in the vampire tongue.
"Elder Emilia, I am Death Walker Selena. I have come to report everything that has happened here."
As soon as she finished speaking, a group of figures emerged from the hidden corners of the hall. They held their weapons, warily eyeing Zhou Yi and Selena. Finally, a woman stepped forward from the crowd.
She was a mature beauty, still retaining her charm, dressed in a silver-black low-cut evening gown and wearing an ancient ornament around her neck. Pushing aside the guards who blocked her path, she walked straight to Selena and spoke.
"Selena, I remember you. Victor's most beloved child. Now, tell me everything you know."
"Yes, Elder Emilia. It happened like this: we were attacked by the Dark Council. The Council ordered the extermination of the Victor Family. Both Elders have been killed, and there are few members of the family left." Selena raised her head and recounted everything she knew.
The revelation struck the vampires like a devastating earthquake.
Not only did the ordinary vampires panic, but even Elder Emilia's face betrayed a flicker of fear. Though she might have put on an air of absolute authority and dominance before Selena, that was only within the Victor Family. If she were to stand before the Dark Council, she would be nothing—no better than a dog.
The Victor Family was merely one of the countless clans that comprised the Dark Council, and one of the most peculiar and weakest of them all. That was why the Dark Council could order their annihilation on a whim.
As this bombshell detonated in her mind, Emilia's expression shifted rapidly, her face flickering between light and shadow.
She gritted her teeth and asked, "Why? Why would the Council do such a thing?"
"Because they're searching for something called the Holy Blood. By the way, do you have it?" Zhou Yi suddenly cut in. He had no interest in the Victor Family's melodrama; he only wanted what he came for.
Emilia narrowed her eyes at the human male who had suddenly interrupted. At first, she had assumed he was merely a human slave, but now it seemed that wasn't the case. She quietly took two steps back and asked coldly, "Human, who are you? Why are you here?"
"Me!" Zhou Yi stopped Selena from speaking, then stepped forward, suddenly appearing behind Emilia. "You can think of me as a collaborator, or you can think of me as a troublemaker. Either way, I'm here for that thing. As long as you give it to me, we can talk about everything!"
"Get away from the Elder, human." The surrounding vampires hadn't even seen Zhou Yi's movements before they realized he had suddenly appeared beside their master. This immediately horrified them, and they hurriedly turned their guns toward him.
But Zhou Yi had no desire to play with these weaklings. His psychokinesis swung down like a heavy hammer, knocking all the people pointing guns at him to the ground in an instant. There were occasional stray bullets mixed in, but they had no effect on him.
Casually plucking a bullet out of the air that had been aimed at Emilia, Zhou Yi smiled at her, his expression meeting her horrified gaze.
"Now, you can tell me if you have that thing. And whether you're willing to give it to me."
The scene before her seemed to defy Emilia's comprehension. She tried to back away, her mind reeling with uncertainty, but Zhou Yi had already wrapped his arm around her waist from behind. She had nowhere left to retreat. She could even feel the terrifying power emanating from the arm encircling her. If she made a single move, the consequences would be dire.
"Who... who are you?" Emilia asked again, her voice trembling. "Are you with the Council?"
"The Council? Of course not. My price is far too high for any random rabble to afford." Leaning close to Emilia's ear, Zhou Yi chuckled softly. "You can call me the Treasure Hunter. My passion, you see, is for these kinds of strange treasures. If you're willing to hand that thing over to me, I might just spare your lives."
"Holy Blood?" Emilia gritted her teeth, weighing all the pros and cons in her mind. Then, she realized with despair that she had no choice but to make this deal with Zhou Yi.
Without their family, they were like stray dogs without a home. In this otherworldly realm teeming with man-eating monsters, their fate was all too predictable. What's more, the Dark Council, the most terrifying faction of all, had already locked its sights on them. In a few days, there might be no trace of their existence left in this world.
Unless someone was willing to protect them. With this thought, Emilia glanced sideways at Zhou Yi, who was smiling strangely behind her. But she quickly dismissed the idea.
Zhou Yi might be strong, but in her eyes, he wasn't strong enough to challenge the Dark Council. The Vampire Elders of the ancient clans and the witches who wielded dark magic were all dangerous and terrifying beings. She couldn't imagine a human so young being able to stand against them.
So, after a moment's thought, she said...
"Even if I give it to you, how long do you think you can hold onto it? Don't forget, the Dark Council is also watching. In their eyes, even you might not be a major problem."
"So, you're saying you don't plan to give it to me, but rather want to trade it to the Dark Council to save your own skins!" Zhou Yi sneered. "Don't forget, your own life is in my hands. Isn't it a bit too early to be thinking about the future?"
As he spoke, his hand shot out to Emilia's fair neck, gripping her throat with force. The sensation of suffocation instantly sent her into a painful struggle.
It was only then that she realized the man behind her was no easier to deal with than the Council. They were two predatory lions, and she was nothing more than the piece of meat beneath their claws. The choice had never been hers to make.
