Chapter 256 - Blood of the Undead, Way of Command

Just as Emilia had said, she had obtained what Zhou Yi wanted before sunrise.

Michael Corvin was the direct descendant of the Undead Lord, Alexander Corvinus, whom S.H.I.E.L.D. had identified from their records. He might have been his only descendant.

The Undead Lord himself was likely impossible to find now. However, if his blood truly had the effect S.H.I.E.L.D. suspected—allowing vampires to walk in the sun—then Michael, as his descendant, should also possess this ability. After all, they shared the same bloodline.

Emilia had shown no mercy to an ordinary person like Michael. Although she had followed Zhou Yi's instructions not to harm him seriously, she still drained nearly a liter of his blood in one go. It wasn't a lethal amount, but it would leave him weak for several days at the very least.

Because Emilia didn't know why Zhou Yi needed an ordinary person's blood, she had prepared the best refrigerated container to preserve the sample obtained from Corvinus's descendant. As a result, when she took the vial out of the cooler and placed it before Zhou Yi, the blood was still a bright, fresh red, without a hint of dullness.

The Blood of the Covenant had always been one of Zhou Yi's two choices. To allow Serana to walk in the sun and never again fear its rays, he had specifically traded with S.H.I.E.L.D. for intelligence on how to make vampires immune to sunlight. This was one of the possible items mentioned in that intelligence.

Of course, whether it would actually work could only be determined after experimentation. And Zhou Yi was certainly not going to let his little vampire girl serve as the test subject. The test subject had to be chosen from among his group of novice subordinates.

With this in mind, Zhou Yi first thought of Selina and Emilia. But he quickly dismissed this impractical idea.

After all, he had already shared a bed with these two women. Therefore, whether from a psychological perspective or in terms of their abilities, they were not suitable candidates. If any accident were to occur, he would suffer a huge loss from any angle.

So at this moment, Zhou Yi could only randomly grant this experimental opportunity to some lucky fellow present.

Soon, he selected a target. This lucky fellow was a vampire standing behind Emilia, holding her box.

He looked like a handsome middle-aged man with a sunny disposition. However, the typical deathly pallor of a vampire clearly ruined his charm.

"You, yes, you! Come here, I have a task for you!" Zhou Yi beckoned with his fingers, signaling the man to step forward. He then found a glass and poured Michael's blood into it. "Drink it all!"

Even a fool would know there was something wrong with the blood, especially when someone had gone to such lengths to obtain it. So, even for a vampire who fed on blood, he felt a chill run down his spine at this moment. His very bones seemed to weaken.

But at this moment, he couldn't afford to refuse Zhou Yi's order. And even if Zhou Yi didn't care, Emilia would never allow him to defy Zhou Yi's will. This was the source of her power, and she would never allow anyone to defile the source of her authority.

Seeing the male vampire's hesitation, Emilia immediately demanded sharply, "Justin, did you not hear His Majesty's command? Drink it, now!"

Emilia's furious shout made the vampire named Justin tremble. His already pale face turned a sickly ashen-blue. He dared not hesitate any longer, so he steeled himself and snatched the glass from Zhou Yi's hand.

The thick, crimson blood poured down his throat. He forced himself to swallow it as if it were poison. A vivid expression of struggle and despair washed over his face, so intense that Zhou Yi momentarily wondered if he had served him poison instead of blood.

*Is it really that terrifying?* Zhou Yi rested his chin on his hand, intrigued by Justin's dramatic reaction. He eagerly awaited more of this spectacle.

He wasn't disappointed. Before long, Justin's body began to transform.

Fine, blue veins emerged from beneath his skin, rapidly spreading toward his limbs and head. Simultaneously, his body emitted a series of crisp cracks, like the sound of bones stretching after a long nap.

After the final pop, his frame seemed to shoot up in height. His muscles rippled and tightened, filling out with a newfound power. With his more imposing physique, he looked like a completely different person. If one hadn't witnessed the transformation firsthand, they would never have recognized him as Justin.

He was much more pleasing to the eye now.

"How do you feel, Justin?" Zhou Yi's interest grew as he observed the vampire's transformation. The Blood of the Covenant was indeed effective. The only question was whether it could achieve his ultimate goal.

"I feel wonderful, Your Majesty!" Justin replied, his voice tinged with disbelief as he savored his newfound power. An irrepressible look of ecstasy spread across his face, only to be brutally torn away moments later.

"Excellent, Justin. The sun is out. Go open the doors and stand in the sunlight."

At Zhou Yi's command, not only Justin's but every vampire present turned pale. If the previous transformation had been a minor experiment with an uncertain outcome, this was nothing short of attempted murder.

Justin, completely unprepared to die, could only stare at Zhou Yi with a mixture of disbelief and desperate pleading, hoping he would rescind the order. But Zhou Yi couldn't care less about the life or death of a vampire.

Now, he was King Ming, and King Ming's commands were absolute.

With a wave of his hand, the great doors of the hall crashed open without a single person touching them. Golden morning sunlight immediately flooded in, causing all the vampires in the hall to react as if they had seen a ghost, cowering away from the golden beams streaming through the doorway.

They had not seen true sunlight for countless years, so when they saw it spill in, their only reaction was a single word: *Flee!* They were like mice seeing a cat, a sight so utterly pathetic it was laughable.

Ignoring this ridiculous rabble, and paying no mind to Emilia, whose face was livid with fury at her subordinates' wretched performance, Zhou Yi simply looked down at Justin, who was kneeling on the floor. He pointed a finger at the golden light at the doorway.

"Go in!"

This was practically the final ultimatum. Yet, faced with this command to go to his death, Justin refused to accept it. Let alone Zhou Yi, this new master who had only been in power for two days, Justin would never have been willing to die even if Emilia, the elder he had served for over a hundred years, had ordered him to.

Who would choose a pointless death when they could live?

Faced with a matter of life and death, Justin immediately made a decision he would never have dared to even consider under normal circumstances.

He sprang from the ground and lunged straight at Zhou Yi. Having drunk the Blood of the Covenant to grow stronger, he now had the confidence to face any enemy.

He believed his current power was enough to defeat Zhou Yi. His soaring confidence even led him to imagine what would happen after his victory: he would take Zhou Yi's place and become the new ruler. This had once been a recurring dream of his, and now, it was about to become a reality.

A waking daydream.

Before Justin's body could even land, he completely lost control of his own movements. Zhou Yi merely raised his hand. A powerful psychokinetic force, like a giant hand grasping a grasshopper, clamped him firmly in its palm.

This made it impossible for him to move—even drawing a breath had become a struggle.

His newly acquired power had become a complete joke. Instead of a desperate counterattack, it had only pushed him one step closer to his own doom, achieving absolutely nothing.

Zhou Yi's power far exceeded his imagination. Justin felt as if he were staring at the ocean—he could see everything on the surface, but the endless, dark undercurrents and the terrifying abyss beneath remained completely hidden from view.

He wanted to beg for mercy, but his ribs, on the verge of shattering under the pressure, left him without the strength to utter another word. Nor did he need to. Zhou Yi had already manipulated his psychic power to place him directly in the sunlight.

The moment the golden radiance bathed Justin's body, the restraints vanished. Justin frantically covered his face and wailed in the sun, shrieking like a pig being slaughtered.

Yet, to any observer, it was clear: the sunlight touched every inch of his skin, but it didn't cause a single speck of damage. Under the sun, he looked no different from a normal human, showing no sign of turning to ash.

Save for his pig-like screams.

This situation made everyone with a brain, including Emilia, realize the core of the matter. All the vampires fixed their gazes on the bottle of blood plasma in front of Zhou Yi.

The sun was the greatest natural enemy of vampires. And never being able to lay eyes on the sun again was the greatest regret of all who had been turned. Now, this regret was about to be a regret no more. The same sun would also show mercy to the vampire race. How could these vampires not be excited?

However, no matter how excited they were, they couldn't do anything to Zhou Yi. Until he nodded, no one could get a single drop of the Blood of the Covenant from his hand. At this moment, Zhou Yi didn't care at all what these guys were thinking; all he cared about now was this experiment.

"Just one test subject isn't enough!" Seeing that Justin had no problems at all, Zhou Yi waved his hand, swatting him to death on the ground like a fly. Then, he narrowed his eyes and said to Emilia, "You should know what makes your House Victor different from other vampires. This time, go find me another vampire."

Does it matter? None of the vampires present thought so, yet not a single one dared to speak up in protest.

Zhou Yi had once again displayed his power, and in doing so, he had seized their hope. He had shown these vampires the greatest of gifts, and in the same breath, made it clear that his majesty was absolutely beyond challenge.

While they might not have fully submitted their hearts, the vampires had already begun to accept Zhou Yi's rule. Even if he ordered them to die, as long as it wasn't a certain death, some would probably be willing to try. Vampires, like humans, would fight for their own interests.

Zhou Yi had presented them with an irresistible benefit, and simultaneously, the price of betrayal. That was enough.

His gaze swept over the vampires. *Cowering, shrinking, weak*—that was Zhou Yi's assessment of these servants. They seemed utterly useless, but he didn't care. All he demanded was loyalty. As long as they remained loyal to him, he would bestow his gifts upon them.

This was the supreme path of King Ming. From this moment on, he began to reach formally into the darkness. The darkness would surely submit to his command. Of this, Zhou Yi, as King Ming, had no doubt.
