Chapter 274 - Divine Authority — Heaven and Hell

Night Fiends?"

Faced with these creatures created by Lilith, Zhou Yi murmured the name to himself before turning to her.

"What kind of power did you grant them?"

"I gave them the ability to walk within the night. Wherever darkness falls, they may travel freely through it. No matter where they are, they can pass directly from this Hell into any darkness they wish to reach."

Lilith smiled proudly. Everything before her had unfolded exactly according to her plans.

"Just as the oracle we devised together said, they will become the soul-reaping demons you spoke of. They will strike fear into the hearts of all those burdened with sin. And only through fear will mortals remember your majesty. Mercy and might must exist together—that is the bearing worthy of a supreme deity."

Looking over the Night Fiends drifting across the Crimson Sea, still dazed from their recent birth, Zhou Yi nodded.

"So they are the soul-reaping demons I spoke of. But what about my messengers? Since you had me proclaim that oracle in the first place, can I assume you've already found a solution?"

"Of course. I'm always prepared."

With a seductive smile, Lilith took Zhou Yi's hand. Countless angelic souls gathered together, forming a brilliant halo that encircled their joined hands.

"I used divinity to create my people, and you can do the same. A god who possesses the Authority of Life can easily grant life to anything with spirituality. Angelic souls are already the most spiritual of all souls. All you need to do is bestow your power upon them, and they will take on the form of living beings."

She smiled.

"And that will become our domain."

As she spoke, Lilith guided Zhou Yi in drawing upon his divine power.

At present, Zhou Yi possessed six Authorities.

The first was the Authority of Divine Fire, born from the Solar Divine Flame. As the incarnation of the sun—the first flame in countless myths—it granted him dominion over fire and the power to unleash the devastating flames of the sun itself.

The second was the Authority of Light. It allowed him complete control over light. Every ray emitted by the sun could be manipulated and commanded by him. In a sense, all light in existence was his subject and had to obey his rule.

The third was the Authority of Strength.

It was the mystical embodiment of his overwhelmingly powerful body and his mastery over forces such as gravity. Fundamentally, it granted him even greater physical strength while elevating his control over gravity to a divine level. At the same time, it also endowed him with certain conceptual aspects of power. For example, every one of his attacks carried a mysterious conceptual property, or he could bestow a portion of that power upon others.

Naturally, such bestowal was not limitless. There were requirements placed upon both the one granting the power and the one receiving it.

Following that came the Authority of the Void.

This was something he had learned from the Demon King—the control and manipulation of space itself. Once elevated into a divine Authority, however, the power had undergone an enormous transformation. Shattering, teleportation, overlapping dimensions, creation... any form of alteration involving space had become possible.

Then there was the Authority of Time.

Time was a particularly special Authority. Even after its ascension, all Zhou Yi had truly gained was the ability to suspend space-time. Yet even that suspension was only relative. Rather than truly stopping time, it was more accurate to say that he gazed into the River of Time through a unique method and interfered with its flow.

Even so, it remained an unimaginably powerful—and dangerous—ability. Unless absolutely necessary, even Zhou Yi had no desire to abuse such power.

Finally, there was the last Authority.

The one Lilith had mentioned.

Life.

In the past, he had called it Blessing. But when his True Name had been forged, the outer shell had fallen away, revealing its most fundamental essence.

Life.

The Authority of Life ensured that, like the sun itself, he would never truly perish. Even if he died, he would return from the realm of the dead.

At the same time, it could restore life to all things. It could heal the sick, cure the wounded, restore youth to the aged, grant eternal life to those blessed by the gods, and, going even further, breathe life into the lifeless or return the dead to the world of the living.

Of course, achieving that final miracle came at a price.

As for what that price was, one would have to discuss it with a deity who ruled over death.

Now, this was precisely the Authority Lilith wanted Zhou Yi to use—to create new life from these souls.

Without souls, even gods found such a feat exceedingly difficult.

But with souls already present, creating life was effortless for a deity who possessed the Authority of Life.

Under the guidance of an experienced goddess like Lilith, Zhou Yi quickly grasped the key to the process.

He infused the countless souls with the power of Life.

Then, using the Authority of Strength, he separated portions of the divinity of Light and Life, weaving them into these newly created beings.

Once everything was in place, those former angels emerged into the world in entirely new forms.

Like the Night Fiends, these newborn beings were all exceptionally handsome men and beautiful women.

But unlike the Night Fiends' alluring, almost feminine beauty, these beings radiated sunlight and dignity.

Whether male or female, they possessed tall, athletic physiques, their bodies adorned with perfectly sculpted muscles and graceful lines.

And like the Night Fiends, each of them bore a pair of enormous wings.

Unlike the Night Fiends' black wings, however, theirs were brilliant gold—the very color of sunlight.

Every feather looked as though it had been woven from pure gold, filling anyone who beheld them with an immediate sense of nobility and splendor.

Just as Lilith had bestowed extraordinary abilities upon the Night Fiends, Zhou Yi also granted these new beings miraculous powers.

They could transform into light itself and travel to any corner of the world.

The divine essence of Life within them also enabled them to relieve the suffering of ordinary mortals and grant them new life.

This was the foundation of their role as his messengers.

With such abilities, even if they possessed no combat strength whatsoever, they would still be worthy emissaries of a god.

Not that beings infused with Zhou Yi's divine Light could possibly lack the power to fight.

In every respect, they were fully qualified.

"From this day forward, you shall be the Messengers of Light—my heralds in the mortal world."

Hearing Zhou Yi's command, the newly born Messengers of Light respectfully bowed before him.

Unlike Jehovah, Zhou Yi had no interest in creating a host of emotionless machines.

In this regard, he and Lilith shared the same philosophy.

Neither of them had restricted the emotions of their creations.

Thus, although their minds were as blank as untouched paper, the Messengers of Light still instinctively showed the proper reverence toward their creator.

It was a respect the Night Fiends did not possess.

Lilith looked at the radiant messengers with unconcealed admiration and sighed.

"What beautiful creations. I can feel that they're stronger than the Night Fiends—perhaps even stronger than the original angels. You truly have a gift for this."

Hearing her praise, Zhou Yi looked over the Messengers of Light, satisfaction evident in his eyes.

Creating beings like these on his very first attempt had genuinely surprised him.

Since Lilith had given him such a pleasant surprise, perhaps it was time to return the favor.

After a moment's thought, he raised his hand.

At once, ripples from the Void spread from his palm, extending beneath his feet and connecting with the Crimson Sea below.

Lilith's eyes widened in shock.

Before she could utter a word, thunderous rumbling erupted from beneath the sea.

Then an island slowly rose from beneath the crimson waters.

It continued expanding...

Growing...

Until it became a continent.

An entirely new world.

It was half of what had once been Heaven—the realm known as the purest and brightest place in existence.

But after the battle between Jehovah and the Bright King, Heaven itself had been split in two.

One half had fallen into Zhou Yi's hands.

Strictly speaking, however, the portion he possessed was nothing more than a shattered dimension.

The remnants of that cataclysmic battle had left it riddled with scars.

It was impossible to know how much time would be required to restore it completely.

To Zhou Yi, it was little more than a tasteless morsel—too valuable to discard, yet too damaged to serve any real purpose.

Keeping it accomplished nothing.

Throwing it away felt like a terrible waste.

It was an exceedingly awkward possession.

But after receiving such an unexpected gift from Lilith, Zhou Yi made up his mind.

Since it was useless to him...

He might as well let Lilith have it.

He would merge it completely into her Hell.

And that was exactly what he did.

With Zhou Yi acting decisively, the entire world shook violently.

A transformation on an earth-shattering scale had begun.

The incorporation of half of Heaven expanded the dimension of this world by nearly twice its original size.

The power of Heaven flowed into Hell.

Although it diluted the purity of Lilith's power, it also introduced entirely new forces into her divinity.

For her, this was by no means a bad thing.

It might even become a tremendous opportunity.

And Lilith had no intention of refusing such a gift.

Before long, the new world stabilized.

High above the skies of Lilith's Crimson Sea Hell now floated an enormous continent.

It was vast.

Yet absolute silence reigned across it.

Everywhere lay dried-up riverbeds, collapsed buildings, withered forests, and dead grasslands.

Heavy darkness blanketed the land, making the entire place resemble the eternal resting place of the dead.

This was the aftermath of the conflict between Jehovah and the Bright King.

Now, Zhou Yi intended to restore everything.

Facing the immense continent, Zhou Yi pointed into the Void.

A gigantic golden wheel of light instantly appeared above the land.

Infinite radiance gathered around it, making it hang in the heavens like a blazing sun, pouring down its dazzling brilliance without restraint.

Its light dispelled the suffocating darkness that covered the continent, restoring all of Heaven to radiant brightness.

At the same time, the land itself awakened.

Countless plants burst forth with new life, sending up fresh green shoots.

Within moments, those tender sprouts matured.

They grew vigorously into lush trees, emerald grasses, beautiful flowers, and branches heavy with ripe fruit.

New streams also burst forth from beneath the cracked earth.

They nourished the dried riverbeds, allowing the waters of life to flow across the land once more.

Heaven had been reborn.

But this reborn Heaven now belonged to Lilith.

Zhou Yi had given it to her.

It was an unimaginably generous gift.

So much so that the way Lilith looked at him became strangely complicated.

It wasn't quite gratitude.

It was more like she was looking at a fool.

Yet whether he truly was a fool...

Even Lilith herself couldn't say.

All she knew was that she had received a gift she simply could not refuse.
