"How could she still be alive?"
Roxanna couldn't even bring herself to look down into the crater because thick clouds of hot steam rose from below without stopping, making the surrounding water feel as though it were boiling.
"The leader of the Devourers has the power to create a bubble barrier," Orion explained. "That bubble is incredibly hard to break, even with heat that intense. That's why I believe he used it to trap Her Majesty inside the crater."
[The name sounds ridiculous,] Roxanna almost laughed to herself, but her smile quickly faded. [I mean... that sounds terrifying!]
"But even if the fire can't burn her, she must have suffered so much after being forced to stare into that crater for two whole years," Roxanna murmured. Her voice was soft, but everyone still heard her.
Azul, on the other hand, silently clenched his fists. Even though he had never been especially close to his mother, that didn't mean he could calmly watch her trapped in such a cruel place.
