The lightning tribulation would actually begin manifesting a warrior that was made out of tribulation lightning, which possesses the same cultivation realm and level as the cultivator who had blocked the tribulation lightning.
Once the warrior had been manifested, the warrior would be tasked with the goal of killing the cultivator, or at the least, keep the cultivator busy and prevent the cultivator from further interfering with the lightning tribulation.
Furthermore, once a tribulation lightning was blocked by a cultivator, the rest of the tribulation lightning would become even stronger than it usually would be.
This was why, whenever a cultivator was about to undergo a lightning tribulation, they would make sure to find a place that was barren, so as to prevent other cultivators from trying to sabotage them.
