Chapter 21 - The Familiar’s Song

Evening settled over Spectrum Academy like spilled ink.

Lanterns flickered along the garden paths, each flame glowing in a different hue. The air was calm — too calm — as if the Academy itself was holding its breath.

Inside her dome, Lyra sat by the window.

Lumi rested quietly in her lap, its soft fur shimmering like moonlight on still water.

In her fingers, she held the small feather it had given her earlier — now glowing faintly, pulsing in rhythm with her heartbeat.

"You're quiet tonight," she whispered.

Lumi tilted its head. Its eyes glowed softly — thoughtful.

Then—

It began to hum.

A single note.

Soft. Haunting. Beautiful.

Not quite sound… not quite light…

Something in between.

Lyra stilled. "…Lumi?"

The hum deepened.

And across the Academy—

Something answered.

Six crystals embedded within the domes began to glow.

Gold. Crimson. Silver. Violet. Ice Blue. Electric Blue.

One by one, their light rose into the sky — thin strands of energy curving like threads of silk.

They arched upward…

And began to converge above the Old Aurora Garden.

Draven's fingers sparked with embers.

Seren's pendant pulsed in uneven time.

Nyra's mirror trembled — a faint crack forming, not breaking… but singing.

Eira woke to frost patterns blooming in the air like constellations.

Riven felt electricity crawl across his skin — restless, alive.

They didn't speak.

They didn't question.

Something was calling them.

Moments later—

All six stood within the Aurora Garden.

The fountain at its center shimmered violently, its waters rising into the air as if gravity itself had loosened its hold.

At the center of it all—

Lumi floated.

Small. Radiant.

Glowing brighter than the stars above.

And then—

The melody began.

The Familiar's Song (Lumi's Lullaby)

Verse 1Beneath the glass of endless skies,I wake where colors sleep and rise.A spark once lost, a hue once torn,I sing to call what's yet reborn.

The air moved gently around them.

The fountain's water lifted higher, forming shimmering ribbons of light that danced in slow spirals.

ChorusHear the hum, the light undone,Threads of time begin to run.Through fear and flame, through shade and sigh,Our hearts will paint the fading sky.

Warmth surged through Lyra.

The same warmth she had felt the moment Lumi chose her.

She looked at her friends—

Their eyes glowed faintly.

Their powers… responding.

Verse 2I am the echo you can't erase,The shimmer left in empty space.Touch the light, don't turn away —The night remembers what you say.

Lyra reached out instinctively.

Her golden light brushed against Draven's flame—

Instead of clashing…

They merged.

A radiant golden-crimson glow pulsed between them.

Nearby—

Eira's frost met Seren's silver aura, forming delicate crystalline patterns that hovered like frozen stars.

Riven stood still for once, electricity flowing steadily — controlled, aligned.

Nyra watched quietly… her violet shadows softer now, deeper… understanding.

BridgeWhen silence falls, I'll find your sound,When colors break, we'll stand our ground. For every tear the stars have cried,I'll glow for you — until they dry.

The song swelled.

Light erupted from the fountain—

Rising high into the sky.

An aurora spread across the heavens.

Not one color—

But all six.

Gold. Crimson. Silver. Violet. Ice Blue. Electric Blue.

For the first time in centuries…

The sky above the Academy shimmered in full spectrum.

Deep beneath the Academy—

Hidden. Sealed. Forgotten.

The Vault of Echoes pulsed.

Thrum…

Thrum…

Thrum…

Something ancient… had heard.

Final Chorus (soft)Hear the hum, the dawn begun,Six hearts bound and now as one.Through love and fear, through time's goodbye,We'll bring the lost colors back to the sky.

The light faded gently.

The aurora dissolved into glowing fragments, falling like soft, luminous snow.

Silence returned.

But it wasn't empty anymore.

The six stood still — hearts racing.

Changed.

Connected.

Unable to fully understand what had just happened.

Nyra spoke first, her voice quiet.

"…Was that us?"

Lyra shook her head slowly.

"No…"

Her eyes lifted to the fading sky.

"…It was something remembering us."

High above—

From the Headmistress's tower—

Veyra stood watching.

Behind her, Zief and Kaelith remained silent.

"It has begun," Zief murmured.

"The Familiar has sung," Kaelith said softly.

"And the Vault…"

His voice lowered.

"…has heard its name."

Veyra's gaze didn't waver.

But something in her expression shifted.

Not fear.

Not relief.

Something deeper.

Something… inevitable.

The Familiar has sung.

And the Vault has answered.
