The warp gate deposited them into cedar cold and thin air and the smell of pine resin from the Ignis Range above. Vane stepped through and stood on the platform for a moment while his body figured out where it was. The station was a single building of dark stone, no staff visible, a carved Sol sigil above the gate arch catching the afternoon light.
"Don't move for a second," Valerica said, beside him. "The altitude adjustment takes a moment."
Isole had already stepped off the platform. She was looking at the mountain range with her head slightly tilted, the bone staff across her back, her breath a clean white cloud in the cold.
"I'm fine," she said, without looking at them.
Valerica looked at her. Then she stepped off the platform.
