Calder agreed to hear her the next morning.

Calder waited.
"About what it measures."
She had rehearsed the phrasing the night before, cutting away every word she did not trust herself to translate cleanly.
"I think there are two questions."
Calder studied her for a moment.
"Then ask them."
His answer carried no irritation.
"Plainly. I would rather hear the questions than guess what you are approaching."
