Chapter 16 - I Should've Been Dead

Jun-lee and Seokjin were walking at the beachside, talking about all the hell they have. "So if I am related to Ryu, does that mean I'm part of the clan?" Jun-lee asked, to which Seokjin nodded. Jun-lee and Seokjin bought cigarettes and beers and sat on the bench. "Hey, I think you should let go of Seul-gi. She's into a girl, being bisexual. She cares for you, but doesn't love you romantically," Seokjin said, taking a drag from his cigarette. "I know. I also know people don't want to be with me. It's sad, but true, but hey, fuck them, fuck the world and the faggots living in the world except the innocents, they can all just kiss my ass!" Jun-lee said while drinking a beer. Seokjin looked at him, knowing Jun-lee didn't fully mean it if he was saying 'fuck the world'. Jun-lee looked at the sky, smiling and began laughing at what he said. "So am I dead?" Jun-lee asked. "If you were dead, I would've also died, you're in a dream coma, and I just happened to join your dream.," Seokjin answered. "How long is my coma?", Jun-lee asked. "Guessing the time you spend, maybe a month.," Seokjin answered once again. Jun-lee lit a cigarette and took a drag. "They just stitched your stomach and drilled your ribs back with some steel. You want to look at the outside world while still sleeping?" Seokjin asked. Jun-lee said yes with no hesitation and Seokjin made a portal big enough to exit and go to the hospital. The two were sitting in the ICU, looking at Jun-lee's unconscious body. Seul-gi and her girlfriend, Ha-eun, went into the ICU. "You want to know a fact? Jun-lee is my great-great-grandfather. So I don't want him to die," Ha-eun said. "Hey, I'm right here! Can't they not see us?" Jun-lee asked. "We're like ghosts. So no one can see us," Seokjin answered. Continuing to Seul-gi's story, Seul-gi went to hug Ha-eun, crying about not being there where he needs her most. "Hey, it's okay. I'm here for you," Ha-eun said, comforting her, then she kissed her. Jun-lee, seeing this, lit another cigarette and finished his beer, taking a drag looking at the scene he was looking at. "Calm down, Jun-lee, forget about her," Seokjin said, trying to help him. Seul-gi then smiled, feeling better. Jun-lee took another drag, and began grinning. "She doesn't know I don't need her anymore. Question, I've never seen you rewrite my reality, just put in fake ones, how come?" Jun-lee asked. "Even though you are in the Choi clan, technically since in a different timeline, you and your oldest sister married two Ryu people, and since you two married a Ryu, I can't rewrite anything about you or her. I mean the only Ryu I can rewrite is myself. That's how I made myself the head or 'mayor' of the clan," Seokjin answered. Xi and the director came to the ICU, looking completely injured from what Seokjin did to them. The director looked at Jun-lee's body and began to cry, because she couldn't protect her at all. Jun-lee felt empathetic for her grief. Xi was sitting on the floor. "Jun-lee's like my father. He helped me with every problem I faced, but I couldn't help him with one problem he was facing," Xi said with tears. Seul-gi hugged him, feeling bad for him. "Fuck Seokjin for what he did," Seul-gi said. Jun-lee began laughing at Seokjin, "LOL, this is too damn funny," Jun-lee said to Seokjin, while Seokjin was playfully beating him, "Shut up, you old hag," Seokjin said. The director and Xi sat on the same chair, leaning on Xi, "Can I sleep in your room tonight? I don't think I'll be able to sleep from this. I'll bring the groceries," the director whispered. Xi nodded, "Can I ask, how old are you anyway?" Xi asked, knowing he wanted to tease her. "Me? I don't age biologically, so I'm 20, but chronologically, I'm more than a thousand years old," the director whispered the answer. "Hmm, the world looked at an ancient woman and said, 'Be an immortal.'" Xi said chuckling. "You asshole." ~the director whispered also chuckling~ "You're chronologically older than I am, and you age biologically, so don't compare yourself to me, gramps.", the director whispered, silently laughing at him. "It's nice speaking like this, I feel better for what happened.", the director said smiling warmly, leaning on Xi's chest, while Xi gently hold her by her stomach. Jun-lee looked at them, thinking, 'I hope they end up together.' "Hey, I'm ready to wake up," Jun-lee said to Seokjin. "Alright, but make sure I apologize to them, you back me up, okay Uncle?" Seokjin asked. Jun-lee fist pumped him, "Don't worry, I'll tell them everything you told me and everything will be cool, so how do I wake up?" Jun-lee asked. Seokjin handed him a pistol, "You shot yourself. More or less like Inception," Seokjin answered. "You feel like you lived in the 2010s for knowing Inception." ~Seokjin laughed, while Jun-lee also laughed. "Thanks for the advice and drinks," Jun-lee said and shot himself, waking up to them hopeless in their chair. "Jun-lee!", everyone screamed. "Hey guys.", Jun-lee greeted smiling. Everyone, except Ha-eun and Jun-lee, began crying. Jun-lee began laughing so happily that everyone was alive and well. "How long was I out?" Jun-lee asked to find out he was in a three-month coma. The stitches also began to heal so he could stand perfectly fine, but because Jun-lee stayed in bed for three months, his legs felt numb, so he was going to need physiotherapy. Ha-eun walked up to him, "Hey, grandfather, I'm with the girl that you like, please forgive me," Ha-eun said. "Don't worry, she's all yours. And don't call me grandfather, it makes me feel old. Call me Jun-lee," Jun-lee said, smiling. Ha-eun looked at him and began to cry from the joy she felt.

Jun-lee was smiling, "At least I know I'll have you guys be with me when I die," Jun-lee said, laughing peacefully. "We couldn't kill The Black Owl, he escaped," the director said, feeling disappointed. "That's good, we need him to join our crew.," Jun-lee said, making everyone stop crying and look at him, "What do you mean? He almost made the Ryu clan extinct, he brought you to the ICU and almost killed you, and you want him to join the team. Hell no," the director told him. "Listen, while I was in a coma, we talked. He told me things, things that feel too sacred to tell. I didn't trust him at first, but I saw a different side of him," Jun-lee said. "He can use you to think he is trustworthy, but on the inside, he's just a manipulator who lied to us," Xi said. Jun-lee couldn't speak, because he tried, but couldn't get to them to listen. "Just forget about him," the director said. "Wait a minute, he got in your dream?" Seul-gi asked, panicking. Jun-lee nodded, thinking it was fine, but Seul-gi looked at him with fear. "No, no, no, you idiot, you could've stopped him," Seul-gi said to Jun-lee, replying, "It's fine, I'm alive, he can't do anything now.", which everyone calmed down. For the next three weeks, Jun-lee was learning how to walk again, how to run, how to crawl. They also removed the stitches from his stomach to his neck, and in no time he had fully recovered, returning to his dorm, with Seul-gi. It was pretty awkward, because he learnt to accept that he would never be her, but it was weird living with her. They talked for some time, then Seul-gi asked,

"Jun-lee, have you recovered from the rejection, or are you just pretending?"

"I have, of course, why?" Jun-lee asked. "No reason, but that's cool. I don't want you to feel bad about yourself for this," Seul-gi said with a serious look. Jun-lee assured her he was fine. They began drinking wine, and caught up on what'd been going on. They were relaxed and happy that they had continued to be friends. Jun-lee looked at her, "Thanks for being my friend Seul-gi.", before going to sleep. The next day, Jun-lee screamed, "I'm making breakfast, Seul-gi!", but got no response at all, but he thought she heard. He made two plates, filled with an American breakfast. "Seul-gi, come and eat!" Jun-lee screamed again. "Seul-gi! Seul-gi!" Jun-lee called out to her. He went into her room, to find her and everything was gone. Jun-lee was confused, until he saw a paper and it wrote:

Dear Jun-lee

I'm sorry to say that I made a plan to resign from S.A.I.D, without your knowledge. Ha-eun and I are traveling away from the Korea District, planning to start a new life. I won't tell you where I went, because I fear you will try to find me. Please forgive me for the sudden leave, and I hope you do well.

By yours truly,

Ji Seul-gi.

Jun-lee looked at the paper, and his grief came back. Jun-lee ate his breakfast and took six bottles of beer and sat on the roof of the dorm section he was in. Xi then walked to the roof, surprised to see Jun-lee drinking by himself. "Jun-lee, are you okay?" Xi asked. "She left, without saying goodbye, without even telling me. And yet I feel empty," Jun-lee said with no emotion. Xi joined in, without drinking, seeing the sunrise.
