Chapter 186 - Chapter 186 Gendry donned his armor and new golden cloak

Gendry donned his armor and new golden cloak, gripping his warhammer. He stood six feet six inches tall, like a towering giant, a titan from ancient battlefields.

The Kingslayer divided the taxi soldiers into three positions; the besieging forces had to be stationed on the north bank of the Tumblestone, the south bank of the Red Fork, and the west bank of the moat, with one army placed between the two rivers. Although Riverrun was not grand or magnificent, it was as solid as a rock, thanks to its water defenses.

Gendry saw the bright red lion banners, the dense sharpened wooden palisades around the House Lannister northern camp, and the several watchtowers that had been built, but these were far from enough. The river cut off all three camps from each other, and the House Lannister soldiers were not as skilled in water as the Riverlands soldiers.

The people in the camp hadn't yet realized what had happened to Jaime, because Jaime leading cavalry sorties had happened three or four times already. The camp Commander wouldn't have anticipated the tragedy that befell the Kingslayer. And Amory's remaining defeated soldiers hadn't even returned to Riverrun; instead, they were frantically galloping towards Gold Tooth with the severely wounded and unconscious Kingslayer.

"I volunteer to lead the vanguard for the northern camp!" Lord Jason requested before the battle. The Seaguard taxi soldiers were eager for action. Seaguard and Seagard, due to their northern location, had not yet suffered severe damage from the war, and the soldiers' morale was good.

Gendry agreed with Lord Jason's suggestion. Lord Jason and Ser Boros led the Seaguard soldiers and a portion of the crabfeeders men to assault the northern camp. Meanwhile, Gendry, Bronze Yohn, Ser Barristan, and others attacked the western camp.

"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh." A desolate horn suddenly sounded, followed by the sound of warhammers being blown.

"Kill!" Lord Jason Mallister and Ser Boros were the first to act. Jason led Seaguard, and Ser Boros led the army from the Claw Peninsula, charging first into the northern camp. Lord Jason wore indigo armor with silver inlays, and his helmet was adorned with eagle wings. Although Lord Jason was older, he was an experienced veteran.

The purple-robed soldiers of Seaguard and the crabfeeders men surged into the House Lannister northern camp with wild cries. They appeared in the darkness, cutting down House Lannister taxi soldiers and clearing obstructive fences to allow the main forces to follow. The howling cavalry had already crossed the ditch, roaring and charging forward, armed with swords and torches.

"long live the storm!"

"long live the storm!"

The soldiers shouted tonight's battle cry, charging into the House Lannister northern camp with the thunder of Lord Jason's horses.

The still-dazed House Lannister soldiers realized that the enemy had attacked. Most conspicuous was the golden banner; its quartered design startled the House Lannister soldiers. They had expected the House Stark as their opponent, not the sudden surge of House Baratheon reinforcements.

But the situation left no time for these soldiers to ponder. The House Lannister tents in the northern camp were set ablaze one by one by torches. The sounds of fighting and shouting continued, and the flames grew larger and larger.

In their confusion and exhaustion, the House Lannister soldiers seemed to see the scythe of death; the enemy before them was the embodiment of all terror.

Those who shouted in battle, like the bloodthirsty crabfeeders men, and the purple-robed Seaguard soldiers, wantonly killed and set fires throughout the camp.

The tents of the northern camp were all set ablaze, the red flames lighting up the entire sky. The sounds of chaos and killing disrupted everyone's rhythm.

The taxi soldiers of the western camp immediately realized this was a night raid.

"What's going on?" Lord Andros Brax, Commander of the House Lannister western camp, anxiously roared. The northern camp was not far, but the great river was difficult to cross. "Is it the House Stark brats?"

"Quickly, get on the rafts, go save the northern camp."

"Get on the rafts!" Lord Andros Brax shouted. He was fully clad in plate and chainmail, his armor gleaming. At this moment, he didn't know what he was thinking, perhaps only wanting to aid the House Lannister soldiers in the northern camp.

A large number of red cloaks soldiers, House Lannister, heard their Commander's order and hastily pushed rafts into the river, intending to cross to the other bank to assist the northern camp. This proved to be a foolish decision in the darkness.

The western camp taxi soldiers saw their rafts become a ridiculous sight; the swift current instead swept the rafts downstream.

Flames soared into the sky, and shouts of battle echoed. Even the most sluggish Riverrun taxi soldiers noticed the change in the war.
