I kept my tone casual, as if nothing unusual had happened.
"I just went to my apartment, bro. Where were you?" I asked back, turning the question on him.
Max's eyes narrowed slightly as he noticed how wet I looked. Water was still clinging to my skin and hair. His gaze briefly flicked toward the bathroom door inside the apartment, the same bathroom where his mother was still showering.
"Why are you so wet? Did you take a shower?" he asked, the suspicion clear in his voice.
I nodded without hesitation.
"Yeah, I did. At my apartment," I replied smoothly.
Max still didn't look fully convinced.
"But when did you come back? I just went out to ask the maids next door if you were with them," he said, trying to piece the timing together in his head.
I gave a small shrug and offered an easy explanation.
