We all thought it was going to be Max.
The door swung open the rest of the way… and a young, plump girl stepped into the room instead.
It was Asha — Maya's daughter.
"Mom?" Asha said, her eyes widening as she took in the scene on the bed.
Heather's husband, still on the open phone line, immediately reacted to the new female voice.
"Baby, who is it? It sounded like a girl," he asked.
Maya quickly raised a finger to her own lips, silently telling her daughter to stay quiet. Asha understood at once and kept her mouth shut, only staring at the tangled, naked bodies on the mattress.
Heather recovered first and covered for them smoothly.
"Oh, it's Maya's daughter, baby. She opened the bathroom door thinking her mother was in there," Heather lied into the phone, her voice still a little breathless.
"Oh," her husband replied, accepting the explanation without further question.
