Tiffany turned her head toward her daughter but didn't answer right away. Brittany didn't wait for a reply. She left their apartment door open and walked out to stand beside her mother, her eyes already moving over the small group gathered in the hallway.
Great. Now there was a young, jealous girl added on top of Aria. The morning had started so well.
Brittany's gaze settled on me and a soft smile curved her lips.
"Hey, Alex," she said, her tone warm and familiar.
"Hey," I replied, giving her the same smile back without thinking. Aria noticed it immediately, the easy way we greeted each other, the comfort that already existed between us.
Brittany then turned her attention to the girl standing close to my side.
"And you are?" she asked Aria directly.
Aria's posture stiffened just a little. There was a clear edge of possessiveness in her voice when she answered.
