Legend has it that the warriors of the Sword and Shield once defeated the night and saved Galar. Now, that darkness has reappeared, and four champion-level trainers have been routed.
All that remains to be counted on are the sword and shield in Ash's hands! However, many are doubting whether even the two gods of sword and shield can defeat the terrifying Eternamax Eternatus.
If they fail, the world may have to rely on Ash's legendary ability to "shake people"—calling upon his friends among the divine beasts!
[Caitlin: Actually, hope isn't just the sword and shield in Ash's hand. Don't forget who Ash is; he is a friend to the gods!]
[Cynthia: Yes! Even if the world truly fell into a crisis of destruction, and everyone—including Zacian and Zamazenta—could not deal with Eternatus, there is still Ash's ultimate trump card: calling for backup!]
[Flint: As the saying goes—if he shakes Arceus or Hoopa out, even an Eternamax form wouldn't stand a chance!]
Ash is indeed familiar with Arceus and Hoopa! If Arceus, the Creator, intervened, defeating Eternatus would naturally be a simple matter.
The name of the Alpha Pokémon is not mere hyperbole. And as for Hoopa...
as everyone saw in the last inventory, summoning Hoopa is equivalent to calling upon seven first-level legendary gods at once! Both of these divine beasts are capable of turning the tides of reality itself.
In the Footage —
The downed Leon recalled his Dragapult and Charizard, while Cynthia returned her fallen Garchomp. Gary, after withdrawing his Skarmory, released his trump card—Blastoise! He stepped up to Ash's side, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with his lifelong rival.
"This guy… he's pretty troublesome, right?" Gary remarked, his eyes fixed on the gargantuan entity above.
"Of course! He defeated Mr. Leon's Charizard and Miss Cynthia's Garchomp with one blow!" Ash replied, his voice steady despite the pressure.
"Scared?"
"Hey, I'm going to be a Pokémon Master! How can I back down in a place like this!"
"Roar!" "Pika!"
Ash's Charizard, though covered in scars, stood defiantly by his side. Pikachu leaped in front of Ash, sparks dancing from its cheeks. The three Pokémon prepared to fight once more against impossible odds.
Above the heavenly dome, Eternamax Eternatus emitted a haunting, draconic groan. Immediately afterward, the center of the massive "hand" formed by its five heads began to condense a terrifying amount of energy.
"Let's start first, Gary! Charizard, Flamethrower! Pikachu, Thunderbolt!"
"Blastoise, use Hydro Pump!"
Searing flames, a high-pressure azure water column, and golden lightning combined mid-air, becoming a devastating vortex of elemental power wrapped in crackling thunder!
"BOOM!"
The triple-attack struck the center of Eternatus fiercely! A loud explosion echoed, and thick smoke obscured the sky.
However, as the smoke cleared, Eternatus reappeared virtually unharmed. The hearts of the champions sank. Even a combined attack of this magnitude couldn't leave a scratch?
"Ash, Gary… run away!" Leon shouted, supporting his bruised body. He wanted the teenagers to flee while they still could.
"Retreat for now," Cynthia urged. "The current Eternamax form is not something we can handle here. We need to gather the strength of the entire world to stand a chance…"
In this situation, evacuation was the logical choice. If the four of them were to fall here, the world would lose four of its strongest protectors. It would be truly hopeless.
"If we leave now…" Ash began.
"…what kind of disaster will happen to Galar?" Gary finished.
"So we…"
"NEVER BACK DOWN!"
The two looked at Eternatus with eyes filled with absolute conviction. There was no room for timidity! At that moment, Eternatus's energy reached its peak.
Ten brilliant pillars of purple-red light bombarded the roof—a saturation attack like a nuclear strike.
"Charizard, Blast Burn! Pikachu, Thunder!!"
"Blastoise, Hydro Cannon!"
The two let their Pokémon unleash their ultimate masterstrokes! Blast Burn and Hydro Cannon—the strongest moves available to the fully evolved starters—erupted.
The searing flames turned into a massive fireball, colliding with the largest central pillar of light. Meanwhile, Pikachu's Thunder scattered across the sky to intercept the remaining beams.
"BOOM!!"
The collision caused another massive explosion. Through sheer willpower, the combined force of Charizard and Blastoise managed to block the central beam.
However, the scattered Thunder only reduced the power of the other nine pillars. The city around them was pelted by the residual energy.
High above, reporters in a helicopter continued to broadcast the news, risking their lives to show the world the horror of the Darkest Day.
People all over the world—Serena, Dawn, Clemont, Brock, Misty—were watching, praying for Ash.
Back on the roof, Ash's Charizard finally collapsed, completely exhausted. It had taken too much damage from the shockwaves and the strain of the ultimate moves.
"Come back, Charizard!" Ash recalled his partner. Now, only Pikachu and Blastoise remained. Ash had other Pokémon, but in this league of battle, anything less than a champion-level ace would be useless.
"Ash, what about those two items from the Slumbering Weald?" Gary asked suddenly.
"The Sword and Shield! Right!" Ash opened his bag. The rusted, toy-like artifacts were pulsing with a rhythmic light.
"Ash… are those really the legendary artifacts?" Cynthia asked, looking at the corroded, broken metal with uncertainty. If it weren't for the mysterious glow, they would have looked like junk.
"Gary and I found them in the forest. They're reacting to Eternatus… we have to try!"
Ash threw the Rusted Shield to Gary, who caught it firmly. The shield shone brightly in Gary's hands, while the Rusted Sword in Ash's hand emitted a sharp, resonant blue light.
