Chapter 291 - The Absolute Ace and the Iron Law of Inverse Attributes

In the footage—

Gary Oak sends out a red flash of light—Scizor! The base speed of a Scizor isn't typically as fast as a Scyther's; after all, compared to Scyther, Scizor is completely covered in a heavy, solid suit of armor! While this provides a significant upgrade to its attack power and a noticeable boost to its defense, that dense armor leaves it quite slow on the ground, and its wings can no longer be used for flight…

But... if its ability is Light Metal, it's a completely different story! The Light Metal ability halves the user's body weight. For bulky, massive titans, this ability is practically useless—even if a heavyweight Pokémon drops half its weight, it remains fundamentally slow, and losing weight actually weakens their greatest offensive asset.

But for Scizor, this unique trait perfectly restores the proud, explosive speed it possessed before evolving! Even if it still can't take to the skies, its ground speed… is not a single bit inferior to when it was a Scyther!

"Scizor, Quick Attack!"

"Boom!"

Scizor spreads the wings behind its back, vanishing instantly like a bolt of jagged lightning! Red streaks of light flash continuously across the battlefield, relentlessly striking Snorlax. One, two… ten consecutive hits! Even though Quick Attack isn't a high-damage move, when chained together with such evasive velocity, Snorlax simply can't withstand the pressure!

"Snorlax, Mega Punch!"

"Snorlax!"

Snorlax tries to launch a counterattack, its fist cloaked in white air currents as it suddenly thrusts forward, but the strike hits nothing but thin air. Unlike the slightly relaxed Arcanine from earlier, this Scizor disengages immediately after landing a blow, giving Snorlax absolutely zero window to retaliate!

"Keep it up with Metal Claw!"

"Boom!"

The continuous chain of Quick Attacks exponentially builds Scizor's forward momentum. In a blinding flash, Scizor finally reveals its physical form, its pincers gleaming with a silvery-white metallic sheen as it drives them straight into Snorlax's stomach! Snorlax is sent flying backward, rolling over ten meters before collapsing weakly onto the ground, completely unable to battle.

Ash… has lost another heavy-hitter. Now, the only remaining team members in his rotation are Muk and a Charizard that has yet to see the field.

[Diantha: Wow… Lance's jinxing ability is truly ruthless! The God of War Snorlax was completely hyped to death by him!]

[Lance: ...]

For goodness' sake, I haven't suffered from the curse of my own commentary in a long time, and yet the moment I speak up, it happens again! This woman immediately seized the opportunity to remind the whole world about my jinxing streak!

[Shauntal: Oh no! My God of War Snorlax!!]

[Flint: Gary Oak's Scizor is exceptionally well-trained. Having Light Metal to focus entirely on specialized speed cultivation, piled on top of its naturally high base attack power, makes it an ideal counter against a Snorlax!]

[Agatha: But if Gary had brought it out from the very beginning, I doubt it could have taken down Snorlax so cleanly. After all, Snorlax had already expended a massive amount of stamina dealing with the previous two Pokémon—especially Nidoqueen!]

[Flint: Exactly. This Snorlax is an extraordinary beast. If Gary's Scizor had faced it in a completely fresh 1v1 from the start, it probably would have run completely out of breath before securing the win, opening the door for Snorlax to counterattack.]

[Norman: That's precisely why within the same tier, Snorlax truly fights like a god of war! Heavyweights can't match its agility, and high-speed agile types are vastly inferior to its raw physical endurance…"]

[Shauntal: Looking at it this way, unless it's an opponent as fundamentally unique as another Snorlax or a literal Legendary Pokémon… in a pure 1v1, Snorlax's theoretical odds of winning are practically absolute!]

That is why Snorlax is revered as a god of war. Setting raw power aside, its baseline operational mechanics are robust enough to confidently stand toe-to-toe with Legendaries! Therefore, within its standard rank… it rarely meets its match. (Reliable and sturdy, that's Snorlax for you.jpg!)

[Green: The latent potential of this Snorlax… is not a single bit inferior to the one Red trains. This kid named Ash… is truly starting to shine, too!]

In the Footage—

Following Snorlax's defeat, Ash replaces it with Muk, intending to use its malleable, gelatinous body to absorb and neutralize Scizor's high-speed impact attacks.

Ash's strategic pivot works wonders initially. Scizor's physical strikes sink straight into Muk's body as if trapped in a dense, viscous quagmire, rendering them completely ineffective. Ultimately, however, Gary Oak takes a page out of Ash's book of creative strategies; he launches Muk high into the air and uses a barrage of Swift attacks to secure the knockout.

With that, Ash is backed into a corner with only Charizard remaining! Meanwhile, Gary still has three capable Pokémon left in his rotation! Frankly speaking, if it weren't for the future spoilers shown in the Masters Eight logs, anyone watching this would assume Gary had this match completely won!

After all, among his remaining three stands his absolute ace, Blastoise! A Water-type against a Fire-type—how could he possibly lose??

"Return, Muk. You did a fantastic job."

Ash comforts Muk as he recalls it, then pulls out his final Poké Ball.

"This is it… I choose you, Charizard!"

"Roar!!"

A brilliant flash of white light erupts as the majestic, imposing Fire-type dragon roars toward the heavens, asserting its presence on the battlefield.

"As expected, it's Charizard… Let's test its baseline strength first. Scizor, Quick Attack!"

"Boom!"

Scizor transforms back into a red streak, flickering wildly across the rocky terrain!

"Charizard, track its movements and intercept it!"

"Roar!"

Charizard's pupils shift rapidly, tracking the battlefield. The exact millisecond the red flash coordinates its trajectory to strike, Charizard suddenly thrusts out a massive claw. In the very next frame, the blindingly fast Scizor is caught squarely by the throat! The massive dragon claw clamps firmly around Scizor's neck—making it look as though Scizor had actively sprinted right into his grip!

"How… How is that even possible??"

Gary Oak's face twists into an expression of pure disbelief. The explosive speed that Scizor prides itself on couldn't evade the opponent's raw reaction time and visual tracking at all! Charizard clearly anticipated and predicted Scizor's exact point of collision! This Charizard… is vastly stronger than anticipated!

"Finish it right there with Flamethrower!"

"Roar!"

A column of scorching, white-hot fire erupts directly upward! In the next second, the dragon claw releases its grip, and Scizor drops limply to the ground, completely unable to stand.

A clean, single-hit knockout! This is the absolute apex of Ash's current party—Charizard! Its level, speed, and attack power are all exceptionally high!!

Gary Oak recalls Scizor and pulls out his next Poké Ball.

"Ash, I have to admit your Charizard is far stronger than I gave it credit for. But… this is where your streak ends! To shut down your Charizard, I've prepared a massive counter-measure!"

"Go, Golem!"

A boulder-like Pokémon, sporting stout limbs and a head protruding from its rocky shell, materializes on the field. Golem, the final evolution of Geodude, boasts a dual Rock/Ground typing. Against a Fire/Flying-type like Charizard, it represents an incredibly difficult, heavily advantaged matchup!

From Blastoise to Golem, Gary's entire secondary rotation consists of Pokémon specifically selected to hard-counter Charizard! This alone shows that Gary's tactical wariness regarding Charizard borders on extreme caution!

Unfortunately for him... while Gary and Ash are childhood rivals, he doesn't take into account the unique title Ash earned throughout his journeys: The Inverse-Attribute Master! The heavier the type disadvantage, the more Ash can push his Pokémon to shatter standard battle logic!

"Golem… We'll overcome a bad matchup with pure grit! Charizard, Flamethrower!"

"Roar!"

Charizard breathes out a torrent of intense fire, completely engulfing Golem in a blazing pillar of heat!

"Golem, deflect it with Rollout!"

"Golem!"

Golem curls tightly into a sphere and begins spinning at high speed. The momentum of its rotation cleanly sheds the clinging flames right off its rocky shell as it charges toward Charizard like a runaway boulder!

"Take flight, Charizard!"
