Chapter 172 - Chapter 172: Porlyusica’s Diagnosis and the Calm Before Retaliation

While Kabe was speaking with Juvia, Porlyusica had already finished a basic examination of Jellal, using Simon's explanation of the symptoms to fill in the gaps.

"Doctor, how is Jellal's condition?"

"Can he be cured?"

Simon asked anxiously from the side.

What he got in return was a harsh scolding straight to the face.

"Do not talk to me."

"You reek of human smell."

"Hurry up and get out of my sight."

Simon took several awkward steps back, his large face full of embarrassment, but he still clearly had no intention of leaving.

At that moment, Kabe, after seeing Juvia close her eyes and drift back to sleep, walked over as well.

Seeing Simon looking like he wanted to ask again but did not dare, Kabe deliberately let his tail show before leaning toward Porlyusica with a grin.

"Granny, do not lower yourself to the level of those smelly humans."

"Just tell me what is going on with Jellal."

Porlyusica shot him a flat look and replied with equal disgust.

"Do not think having one extra tail means you are not human."

"Get farther away."

"If you keep talking nonsense, then forget about your vitality pills."

Whoosh.

Kabe instantly flashed five meters away, rubbing his hands together with a grin of apology.

"I was joking."

"Please continue."

"I will not interrupt."

The vitality pills were the special medicine he had once given to the former front desk girl, as a wedding gift, a secret tonic that could restore a man's vigor.

Kabe had once even discussed with Makarov the idea of turning them into Fairy Tail's signature product and using the sales to fill the guild's treasury.

Unfortunately, Porlyusica absolutely refused to tolerate her medicine being used for something so indecent.

In the end, after the two of them shamelessly begged for ages, she had only agreed to allow small batch purchases for guild members alone.

Kabe still remembered vividly how crazed the guild's older men became over a single pill.

Back to the point.

Once both of them had moved farther away and the "human smell" in the room had faded a bit, Porlyusica finally began to speak properly.

"There is nothing seriously wrong with this boy."

"His brain has just been eroded by dark magic for too long."

"Even if it can be healed, it will still take some time to fully recover."

"I will prepare medicine for him in a moment and have him stay here under observation for two days."

"After that, you can take him away."

"As long as he takes the medicine on schedule, he should recover within a month at most."

Hearing that Jellal's illness could be dealt with so cleanly, Simon let out a long breath of relief.

Kabe, equally impressed by Porlyusica's skill, grabbed the still dazed Simon and started dragging him out of the room.

At the same time, he called back over his shoulder,

"Then I will leave Juvia and Jellal in your hands."

"We will get out and stop bothering you."

"Hmph."

"Do not come back again."

"This whole room stinks of disgusting humans now."

Accompanied by Porlyusica's irritated muttering, Kabe shut the door behind them.

He patted Simon, who still had not quite processed everything, and said with a smile,

"That is just how Porlyusica granny is."

"If we had stayed in there any longer, she would have started driving us out with a broom."

"But even though she curses like that, she really does care about us guild kids."

"And when it comes to medicine, there are not many doctors in all of Ishgar who can compare to her."

Simon nodded in realization, silently committing those words to memory.

The others, who had been waiting outside and had not gone in, all gathered around at once.

After Kabe briefly explained Juvia and Jellal's conditions, everyone visibly relaxed.

"Simon, Sho, you four can stay in the room next door and take turns keeping watch."

"If Porlyusica granny needs anything, I am counting on you too."

The four of them all knew that Kabe still had more important matters to deal with next, so they all nodded without hesitation.

"Brother in law, if you need anything, make sure to tell us."

"We cannot just keep receiving your help forever."

Looking at Sho, who had now completely accepted him as family, Kabe smiled with satisfaction and clapped him on the shoulder.

"Family should not say things that formal."

"Right now, Jellal needs you the most."

"Your first job is to look after him properly."

"And I am also leaving Porlyusica granny's and Juvia's safety in your hands."

"Got it, brother in law."

"Leave this place to the four of us."

Sho thumped his chest as he made the promise.

Wally, Simon, and Millianna all wore equally serious expressions.

Mira, who had come along as well, looked oddly at Sho, who kept calling Kabe brother in law with increasing enthusiasm.

She could not help muttering to herself,

"Who are these people?"

"He keeps calling Kabe brother in law, so the sister means Erza?"

Curious, Mira decided that when she got the chance later, she would ask Erza about it properly.

For now, the most urgent matter was how they were going to respond to Phantom Lord's provocation.

Once the place had been safely entrusted to Simon and the others, Kabe led the group back to the room where the guild members were gathered.

Everyone was already on their feet, all eyes fixed on him with burning anticipation.

Kabe naturally walked to the front, crossed his arms, and slowly began.

"I have to admit, Phantom Lord picked a very good moment."

"The master is tied up at the Magic Council, and among all our S Class mages, only Mira was left in the guild."
