(Now back to the story!)

The Masque eventually found herself taking on all three of the Windrunner sisters as they fought together seamlessly, moving as though they were one mind spread across multiple bodies.

After a flurry of exchanges, Alleria shattered the Masque's left leg with a powerful kick before severing three of her remaining limbs.

Vereesa followed, carving deep wounds across her back before cutting off her final two arms.

Finally, Sylvanas drove her sword through the daemon's gut before ripping it upward, tearing her open.

"Told you I was gonna gut you."

Sylvanas drew Thas'dorah and pulled back the bowstring. A magical arrow manifested before being further charged with radiant energy.

"Tell your prince to keep his excesses and fetishes to himself, along with you and all the other delusional freaks you call your kin!"

Sylvanas loosed the arrow.

The Masque was engulfed in an explosion of brilliant blue light, her form violently banished back into the Realms of Chaos.

Sighing in relief, Sylvanas was suddenly pulled into a crushing embrace by Alleria and Vereesa.

"YOU GAVE ME A BLOODY HEART ATTACK! WHAT WAS THAT NONSENSE ABOUT DYING IN A FINAL STAND, YOU STUPID GIRL!?"

"Alleria is right, Lady Moon. You never should have said that, much less sent the majority of the High Elven forces south!"

Sylvanas could barely breathe under the embrace, but she smiled wryly at the obvious concern and love her sisters were showing.

"Alright, alright. Can't blame a girl for trying to have a badass final stand, can you?"

Watching from nearby, Halduron and the other High Elves felt a tremendous wave of relief as the reinforcements arrived and the Windrunner sisters were reunited.

Just then, another detachment of High Elves came running around the corner, led by Lor'themar Theron, who had guided the Alliance forces along the fastest route to Silvermoon.

Sylvanas was surprised to see him, though one of her brows twitched in mild annoyance.

"You disobeyed my direct orders."

Her instructions had been clear: lead one of the main evacuation groups south alongside one of the armies assigned to protect them.

She had never mentioned seeking help from Alastor, knowing full well that Quel'Thalas was in no position to ask for aid, nor was she shameless enough to use her relationship with him to secure assistance.

Lor'themar's eyes flickered for a brief moment before he composed himself.

"Ranger-General, I carried out your orders exactly as you wished. As for the military aid, I acted under the confidential orders of His Majesty, Kael'thas."

"It just so happens that I—and many others—were also in complete agreement with those orders."

Sylvanas' lips twitched. By technicality, Lor'themar truly hadn't done anything wrong, but she knew her old friend well enough to recognize it as nothing more than a clever excuse to gather support for the north.

Behind them, Halduron laughed.

"By Asuryan, I might actually be dead if you, of all people, Lor, started using that kind of logic to disobey orders!"

Lor'themar twitched at the remark and was about to fire back when he finally noticed Halduron's condition.

His eyes widened.

"By Isha, Halduron! What in the name of the Aspects happened to you!?"

He immediately ordered the healers accompanying him to begin treating his friend.

"A daemon bitch did this. She's gone now, but don't worry, it's just a scratch."

"Your guts were nearly spilling out, you fool! THAT IS NOT A SCRATCH!"

Sylvanas felt her lips twitch at the exchange and decided to leave the two friends alone as Lor'themar entered what she privately referred to as "mother hen mode."

"Sisters, what's the situation?"

Alleria answered immediately.

"Right now, the Alliance's main host, alongside the Red Dragonflight, is directly engaging and pushing back the enemy army."

"Oh, and aside from them, there are also beings called the Naaru assisting them."

Sylvanas blinked at the unfamiliar name.

"Naaru?"

This time, Vereesa answered.

"We don't know much either, but apparently they helped the dragonflights contain much of the Fel hordes within the Aether. Throughout the war, they've also been empowering wielders of the Holy Light."

"Now they've come personally to assist in the final battle, especially after the destruction of the Alterac Warp Rift."

"While the main force is dealing with the enemy army outside the city, the contingent sent into Silvermoon was dispatched by Alastor to help you and the defenders eliminate the remaining hostile elements before securing the city once again."

Sylvanas nodded solemnly.

"Got it. I'll contact my forces and let them know about the change so we can coordinate with the Alliance."

"And speaking of which... where is Alastor?"

Speak of the demigod, and he shall appear.

A flaming meteor practically crashed into the ground nearby, kicking up a massive cloud of dust before it was blown away, revealing Alastor in all of his Primarch glory.

"Someone say my name?"

Sylvanas laughed.

Alleria rolled her eyes with an amused smile, while Vereesa simply chuckled and shook her head.

"Sylvanas, good to see you in one piece."

Alastor pulled the middle Windrunner sister into a warm hug, genuinely relieved to find her alive and well.

Which meant they'd arrived in time.

What Alastor failed to notice was the way her laughter abruptly stopped as a faint blush crept onto her cheeks before she slowly returned the embrace.

"Damn... you're big like this..." Sylvanas muttered, swallowing slightly before letting out a small sigh. "It's good to see you too, Al."

"I owe you once again—for saving my life, and the lives of the elves who stayed behind with me."

Alastor shook his head.

"None of that, Sylvanas. Didn't I tell you there are no formalities between friends?"

He frowned slightly as a look of mild annoyance briefly crossed her face.

Did he say something wrong?

And why was Alleria giving him an exasperated smile?

...And why was Vereesa suddenly so interested in that burning building over there?

Jokes aside, Alastor grew serious.

"Sylvanas, have you seen anyone bearing this man's resemblance?"

Alastor tapped his wrist guard, causing a holographic image of Malak to appear, which Sylvanas immediately recognized.

"That's the leader of the Chaos forces, right? I know he was here, but I had my attention focused on the city and its immediate defenses, so I don't know where he is now."

"Shouldn't you know better, though? While I was focused here, your army was facing the main host outside."

Alastor's eyes darkened with rage.

"That's the problem—I don't!"

All three sisters looked at him in surprise.

"I literally flew across the battlefield several times, and in all my passes I didn't see him at all!"

Alastor had spent the battle flying through the skies, killing everything in his path—black dragons, daemons, Beastkin, black mages, and countless others—all while searching for his true target, Malak.

Yet despite sweeping across the battlefield and engaging the enemy time and again, he hadn't seen him... nor had he sensed him.

If Malak wasn't here...

...then that could only mean one thing.

"Sylvanas, what's the status of the Sunwell?"

"The Isle of Quel'Danas was already fortified. I also sent half of our Magisters there. In fact, Kael'thas is there personally to provide additional security."

(A/N: Here, High Elves refer to their Archmagi as Magisters, and the Silvermoon Council is likewise composed of Magisters, with the Grand Magister serving as its unofficial head.)

"Sister, I think it's best if you contact them anyway and tell them to be ready for anything. While the main army is pushing back and slaughtering the Chaos host, these people have proven themselves more than capable of treacherous and subtle warfare."

Alleria had fought alongside Alastor since the beginning of the war and knew that, while Chaos was infamous for open warfare, they were equally adept at operating from the shadows.

The war itself had begun through subtle manipulations behind the scenes, giving them the time they needed to grow into the threat they had become.

Sylvanas frowned but ultimately nodded as she activated her comm-link to contact Kael'thas.

...

Nothing.

Her expression froze.

She couldn't establish a connection.

Quickly changing frequencies, she attempted to contact other Magisters and officers stationed on the isle, only to receive the same result.

"FRAKING HELL! NOTHING'S GOING THROUGH!"

Alleria, Vereesa, and Alastor's eyes widened as they immediately realized what that implied.

The Isle of Quel'Danas—and, by extension, the Sunwell—was likely compromised!

Vereesa quickly spoke.

"Sylvanas, we need to move now!"

"On it! Lor'themar!"

She called out to him immediately.

Recognizing the urgency in her voice, Lor'themar hurried over.

"Yes, Ranger-General!?"

"Lor'themar, you're in command of the defense forces. Purge the remaining hostiles from the city and secure Silvermoon. Work alongside Rommath and his Magisters to finish this as quickly as possible."

Lor'themar saluted.

"As you command."

Alastor activated his own comm-link and immediately contacted his generals.

"The situation has potentially deteriorated. I need elite units and as many Champions as possible to make a beeline for the Isle of Quel'Danas on the double!"

"Turn command of the army and the second phase of the operation over to secondary command! I repeat, get your asses to the isle as quickly as possible!"

After receiving a series of affirmatives, Alastor cut the connection.

"You all know the fastest route to the isle, right?"

Sylvanas nodded.

"Yeah. After I became Ranger-General, I was shown several shortcut routes we can take—"

"You know what? I changed my mind."

Cutting her off, Alastor swiftly scooped up Sylvanas and Vereesa, carrying one under each arm.

Vereesa let out a startled squeak, her face turning bright red at their sudden proximity.

Sylvanas blushed as well, though she quickly regained her composure and looked at him with an amused smile.

"Forward, aren't you? Not that I'm complaining, but I at least expected you to take me out to dinner before making moves like this."

Alastor froze.

A moment later, his face flushed crimson as the implication of his actions finally registered.

"I-I-I mean—"

He hurriedly shook his head.

"I intended to fly us there! It's much faster, and we won't have to worry about being shot down by the Isle's defenses."

"Don't tease him, Lady Moon."

Alleria said as she climbed onto his back, wrapping one arm around his neck to steady herself.

Alastor felt relieved that Alleria had come to his rescue—

"There'll be more than enough opportunities to do that afterward."

"Duly noted, Lady Sun."

...He immediately took that thought back.

"U-Um... maybe we should focus on what's important right now? It isn't very nice to gang up on Alastor like this."

Alastor looked at Vereesa as though she were an angel.

He spoke at the exact same time.

"Vereesa, you truly are my silver angel."

That turned out to be exactly the wrong—and right—thing to say.

Vereesa's face somehow grew even redder, making a remarkably convincing impression of a tomato.

"Dear... you're doing it again."

Alleria sighed with an exasperated expression as she looked at her hopelessly oblivious demigod of a husband-to-be.

"Damn... I almost forgot just how effective your smooth tactics were."

Sylvanas, on the other hand, stared at him as though she couldn't decide whether he had been blessed or cursed by some God of lust.

'This again!?'

"You know, it would be very helpful if you actually told me what I was doing, Alleria. And Sylvanas, we can discuss my military tactics after we're done here."

Alleria looked at him as though he'd just proven her point.

Meanwhile, Sylvanas' eyes widened as she turned toward the eldest Windrunner.

"By Isha... he's that dangerous?"

Alleria nodded solemnly.

Vereesa merely looked away in embarrassment, refusing to answer—which was answer enough.

Alastor had finally had enough of their cryptic way of communicating.

Once again, he concluded that war and research were infinitely easier to understand than women.

Summoning his blazing wings, he shot into the sky and made a beeline for the small island off the coast.

As he flew, he reaffirmed a single truth in his mind.

'Women... no matter the species, understanding them might be harder than teaching an Ork peaceful diplomacy.'

Still...

While he wasn't worried about Vereesa, he honestly felt sorry for whatever poor fool eventually ended up with Sylvanas.

...

Wait.

Why did he suddenly feel like someone was pitying him?

(A/N: Never change, ya lovable idiot.)
