Chapter 107 - The Containment Chamber

I followed the threads of silver beneath the streets, letting them guide me like a map only I could read. The mist of the city's waking fog curled around my ankles, pulling at my senses, whispering old memories I hadn't lived yet.

Sora… stop.

The system's voice quivered in a way that made the hair on my arms rise. Not fear, exactly—something closer to desperation.

"I can't," I said aloud, voice steady despite the pulse of anticipation drumming through my chest. "I have to see it."

You don't understand. What lies beyond could unmake you. The first vessel—she is not… benign.

I didn't answer. My bare feet pressed against the cold stones, feeling every seam, every vibration. The threads guided me, spiraling down a hidden staircase I had never noticed before.

The air grew thicker here. Ancient dust clung to my throat, and the faint metallic tang of old blood whispered beneath the stones. The crown pulsed heavier, a steady reminder that the city's pulse ran through me now.

The chamber door appeared — massive, carved with lines that shifted when I blinked, symbols that weren't entirely static. My fingers brushed against the surface. The stone shivered, and I felt it respond, alive in the way the city always had, only sharper, more urgent.

Do not open it.

"I won't be stopped," I said softly.

The system's voice dropped into a whisper, almost human:

Please, Sora… I…

I didn't wait for her to finish. With one push, the door groaned and opened, revealing the chamber inside.

Dim light spilled out, dust particles floating in the air like tiny stars. In the center lay a pedestal, cracked and scorched. On it, a faint silhouette shimmered—like water trapped in air, a body half-formed, half-absent.

I stepped closer. The threads beneath my feet reacted instantly, writhing toward the pedestal, curling around the ghostly figure. Its eyes opened. Not fully human. Not fully machine. Something in between.

A whisper brushed my mind — Sora… you shouldn't be here…

I froze. The voice was mine, but not. Old and familiar, threaded with something other.

Turn back.

"I can't," I said. The crown throbbed, the city itself holding its breath beneath me. "I need to know."

The first vessel lifted a hand, almost fragile, almost pleading. Light fractured across her form, and I saw the scars in her shape, the remnants of countless failures.

And I understood.

This wasn't just a relic. This wasn't just a memory.

She had been waiting for someone like me.

Sora… the system whispered, trembling. "This… will change everything."

I smiled faintly, calm in a way that surprised even me. "Then let it."

The threads of silver leapt from the floor, wrapping around both of us. The city thrummed, and the chamber seemed to pulse with anticipation.

And somewhere deep beneath the stone, the first vessel whispered again, Welcome, heir.
