Chapter 143 - 143: End of Idealism

"In this world, there are many places my telepathy cannot even glimpse, many terrifying existences whose minds are no weaker than mine, and many special locations that can isolate the mind."

Charles turned back and gave Luke a deep look, feeling ashamed that he had doubted the truth of Luke's words back then.

"I apologize, Mr. Luke. You were right. We should strengthen our power and unite all possible forces to fight against potential enemies!"

Luke nodded slightly. "It's not too late to realize it now. At least the end of the world hasn't arrived yet."

Charles nodded with a bitter smile.

Jean Grey and Blink were both quite confused, but seeing Charles's profound demeanor, they could only suppress their curiosity and continue listening.

"The location of this mission is the Alkali Lake Dam in Alberta, Canada. Inside the dam is a research base concerning mutants—the Weapon X Base built by Colonel Stryker of the United States military. It has a history spanning several decades."

"They have secretly conducted atrocious experiments on many mutants. Even Logan was part of their plan."

Charles wore an expression of indignation. After reflecting and discovering things over the past few days, he realized that the methods he had adopted in the past were far too peaceful and gentle. So much so that some individuals were secretly carrying out so many experiments harmful to mutants!

"Stryker is currently designing a mutant extermination plan. He intends to use my abilities and Cerebro to find and kill all mutants!"

"We must stifle his plan in the cradle before he can carry it out!"

Charles's voice was very low. If they hadn't discovered this early, and if Stryker's plan succeeded, they might truly use his abilities to murder countless compatriots. This was something Charles could not tolerate!

It had already touched his bottom line—his reverse scale!

Upon hearing this, Jean Grey was secretly alarmed and subconsciously looked at Luke, wanting to know his thoughts.

However, Luke's expression was completely normal; he didn't seem surprised at all.

Charles noticed this and couldn't help but ask curiously, "Mr. Luke, did you know?"

"Of course. Isn't this a very normal thing?" Luke said as a matter of course. "Those who are not of our kind are sure to be of a different mind. I can guarantee that besides Stryker, there are many more forces secretly plotting to harness mutant power."

"After all, who can refuse the temptation of becoming extraordinary?"

"Why? Are you actually so surprised? No way. Are you really that naive?"

Charles was speechless for a moment. Could he say that he had promised not to use his psychic abilities on others arbitrarily back then?

If others told you that, did you actually believe them?

"That will kill you. Are you listening?"

"Ahem, let's look at your subordinates first."

Feeling somewhat awkward, Charles led the way, pushing his wheelchair into a room filled with a sci-fi atmosphere.

"The current members of X-Force Squad Two are Blink (Clarice Ferguson), Colossus (Piotr Rasputin), Pyro (John Allerdyce), Iceman (Bobby Drake), Shadowcat (Kitty Pryde), and Rogue (Anna Marie)."

"They are currently the best batch of students. Except for Rogue, the others can generally use their abilities quite proficiently. You can observe the results of their training."

Charles opened the enormous screen in front of them.

At this moment, the five members of X-Force Squad Two were walking down a school corridor, vigilantly watching their surroundings, as if monsters might spawn at any moment in the spacious, interconnected hallway.

Luke was quite curious about the training process at the mutant school.

"Hmm? I didn't expect your 3D projection technology to be so advanced. It's leading the current world by at least two decades."

Luke saw at a glance that the testing location utilized 3D projection technology, capable of simulating a real scenario and allowing for immersive combat.

Charles humbly replied, "This training room was specially built by Beast, the smartest mutant among us. As long as specific data is entered, it can basically simulate the environment perfectly."

"Of course, compared to Stark Industries, it's still a bit lacking."

Luke shook his head. "No need to be modest. You are at least five years ahead of Stark Industries' technology."

Luke remembered that Stark Industries also had similar holographic projection technology. In the future, a villain named Mysterio would use drones and holographic projection to disguise himself as an alien savior.

But that was still many years away.

Tony Stark himself possessed considerable holographic projection technology, but Luke was certain that the technology mastered by the mutants was definitely more advanced.

Of course, this did not mean that Beast was smarter than Tony. The two excelled in different fields and had different specialties.

Tony was more skilled in energy, mecha, and artificial intelligence.

Beast, on the other hand, was an all-rounder. Although he surpassed Stark Industries in certain aspects, there was still a huge gap in the fields where Tony specialized.

However, both Beast and Tony Stark were among the smartest people on Earth. It was hard to say who was specifically smarter, because there was no standard measure.

If one were to truly discuss technological prowess, Shuri was smarter than all of them. While they were constrained by Earth, Shuri had already developed spaceships for interstellar travel.

And Rocket Raccoon was even smarter than Shuri, Tony, and Beast.

But was that truly the case?

In Luke's view, their intelligence levels were similar; the huge differences arose merely from differences in perspective, starting point, and available resources.

Both Blink and Jean Grey felt a sense of shared pride—this was recognition from Luke!

Even the astute and experienced Charles felt a little giddy.

"Hmm? What kind of monster is this?"

Luke looked at the monster on the screen with surprise and uncertainty.

It was a terrifying creature nearly three meters tall, pale and faceless, with sharp fangs and teeth, a long, thin torso, strange, peculiar limbs, and dressed in a black suit.

The creatures remained invisible the entire time, and their footsteps were almost silent. Detecting them required certain special abilities or methods.

Colossus transformed into his steel form and led the way ahead. Being entirely made of steel, he did not fear the attacks of the faceless monsters.

Once he spotted a target, John and Bobby would actively attack.

These things had quite high resistance to flames, but when faced with the dual attack of ice and fire, the faceless monsters couldn't last more than a few seconds before dying.

Shadowcat used things like flour, spreading it throughout the space in advance with her phasing ability. This allowed the squad to detect the faceless monsters early.

Besides the faceless monsters, there were also crudely made robots that felt very plastic-like. These should be Sentinel robots.

Compared to the Sentinels, Luke was more interested in the faceless monsters.

"How do you know about these things?"

Charles glanced at the faceless monsters. "These are special monsters we discovered in the past. Some call them Soul-Eaters or Hollows."

"They feed on the eyeballs of certain special mutants. The specific reason is currently unknown."

"They and the Sentinels are arguably the greatest threats to mutants, especially their invisibility, which makes them extremely difficult to deal with."

"Therefore, we included them in the training program. This is a terrifying enemy that every X-Man must defeat alone."

Luke was momentarily speechless upon hearing this.

He thought they were the faceless monsters from The New Mutants, but he didn't expect them to be the Hollows that appeared in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children!
