After Luke successively killed two Vampire Elders, Selene, who had been immersed in the joy of revenge and the confusion over her adoptive father's death, stopped stressing when she saw this scene.
She looked up at Luke, slightly stunned. "You killed Marcus?"
"What else? Were we supposed to leave him alive so he could wake up and seek revenge against you?"
"Revenge? Against me?"
Selene was genuinely confused.
She had only come to confront Viktor, and if the truth was confirmed, to kill him for revenge.
But she truly hadn't considered killing Marcus as well.
After all, he was a Vampire Elder, the progenitor of their entire branch of vampires!
"Because of William, Marcus came to hate Viktor and Amelia, and consequently, the subordinates they relied on, which of course includes you."
"If you don't kill Marcus today, he will kill all of your vampires tomorrow!"
Luke, who knew the original plot, naturally understood the principle of cutting the grass by the roots.
Selene nodded, then shook her head. "But... since he is the vampire progenitor, if we kill him, will we lose our vampire abilities?"
"Even Viktor and Amelia chose not to kill William and Marcus..."
Luke shook his head and said, "Marcus lied to you. Your abilities are based on genetic mutation, not some so-called curse. Even if you wipe out Marcus's entire family, it won't affect you at all."
"If Marcus hadn't claimed that, given Viktor's personality, how could he possibly have spared him and his brother?"
Selene suddenly understood. Although she didn't care much about whether she would lose her vampire bloodline, she knew Luke liked her little fangs.
Moreover, Luke was extremely strong. If she lost the vampire trait of powerful regeneration, she was afraid she wouldn't be able to satisfy him, or might even be tormented to death.
"So what should we do next?"
Selene thought for a moment and tentatively asked, "How about we kill Amelia too?"
"Amelia and Viktor had a very good relationship. If we let her go, she might become a future disaster."
"Oh, and the other vampires here. They might inform Amelia..."
Luke looked strangely at Selene. He had been worried that Selene wasn't ruthless enough, but now it seemed he was wrong.
He had originally planned to kill the three Elders to gain Anomaly Points.
On one hand, he considered Selene's feelings; there was no need to be too heavy-handed if it made Selene uncomfortable.
On the other hand, without the three Elders, the remaining trash could be wiped out in one go by the surviving lycans led by Lucien.
Take Kraven, that waste; if he had truly been able to eliminate Lucien back then, why wouldn't he have done it?
Instead, he ended up with a claw to his throat and had to cooperate with the lycans to deceive Viktor.
Even so, Kraven was the second most important figure beneath the Elders.
One could imagine how much more useless the other vampires must be.
And Lucien was the most capable lycan leader in recent centuries.
One side had a large population but was leaderless, while the other side, though fewer in number, was commanded by a Lion King.
The outcome was self-evident.
Anyway, to Luke, vampires and lycans were just dogs fighting dogs; there was no difference.
"If you feel it's necessary, that's fine too. Just tell Blade the location here, and he will help us handle everything."
Luke had no interest in characters who could not provide Anomaly Points.
Selene nodded. "Alright, where do we find Blade?"
"Leave it to me."
Luke held Selene, and in the blink of an eye, they vanished from the underground chamber.
...
At this very moment, in a modified garage on the west coast of New York.
No one knew that Blade, the most renowned vampire hunter in history, was currently residing in this inconspicuous bungalow.
Blade looked out the window at the bright sunlight, polishing his sword while lost in thought.
"Are you still thinking about that guy from last night? Take my advice: don't provoke him. He clearly possesses transcendent power that surpasses vampires."
Beside him, an unremarkable old man was maintaining a shotgun.
Blade snapped out of his thoughts. "I don't know who that guy is, but he's getting too close to vampires!"
The old man shook his head. "If he were truly close to the vampires, you wouldn't be sitting here chatting with me, safe and sound."
Blade fell silent, continuing to polish his sword.
"That man clearly only has a relationship with one female vampire. As long as you don't look for trouble with that vampire, the man won't make a move."
The old man spoke with the air of an experienced veteran.
Blade frowned deeply. "Humans cannot, or at least should not, mate with vampires."
The old man smiled. "Are you worried they'll give birth to another half-vampire?"
"That is a curse! No one willingly endures the pain of bloodlust!"
Blade tightened his grip on the hilt. To maintain his human reason and humanity, he had to endure the agony of his bloodlust for extended periods.
Every bout of pain made his heart colder, calmer, and stronger.
He inflicted all the suffering he endured onto the vampires.
He didn't want anyone to experience his pain. Although half-vampires were Daywalkers, this was not a blessing, but a curse!
The old man was silent for a moment. "Alright, but until you figure out the situation, you better not act rashly."
"Let's target a different vampire clan tonight."
Blade slowly nodded, taking out his firearms to inspect and maintain them.
Suddenly.
Blade abruptly raised his gun, aiming it at the door. "Who is it!"
Almost simultaneously, the old man also sharply raised his shotgun. His formerly kind and murky eyes became firm and sharp, as if his previous demeanor had only been a disguise!
Although he looked old, anyone who underestimated him because of it would surely pay a terrible price.
Because this old man was a retired vampire hunter who had settled down, and Blade was the excellent hunter he had personally trained.
Even with gray hair, he exercised appropriately every day to keep his physical strength as close to peak condition as possible.
If needed, he was ready to fight alongside Blade at any moment!
"I hate having guns pointed at me. If I were you, I would immediately lower the weapons."
The door silently opened. Luke walked in with Selene, surveying the surroundings as if no one else were present.
"A dignified Daywalker actually lives in such a secluded place? I think the rich district would suit you better. At least the security there is good, which might let you sleep a little sounder."
"It's you!!"
Blade's muscles tensed all over, his finger resting tightly on the trigger as if facing a formidable enemy.
"Wait, put it down first!"
The old man pressed down hard on Blade's arm. "Sir, what do you want here? Are you here to avenge the vampires? Or..."
Luke gave the pragmatic old man an approving look.
"Don't worry, I won't attack you. I'm only here to give you a chance for revenge."
"The castle on XX Street in Hell's Kitchen, New York. If you move fast enough, you can still catch them off guard."
Blade and the old man exchanged glances, then looked at Selene, and an absurd thought arose in their minds.
Could it be... that the vampires inside that castle were this female vampire's own colleagues?
Could it be a trap?
It was no wonder they thought this way; based on their years of experience dealing with vampires, Selene was absolutely a female vampire.
Blade had even met Selene before.
He did not understand why Selene would betray her own kind.
If this wasn't a trap, then what was it?
Wait a minute!
Blade glanced at Selene, then suddenly looked out the window. The fierce sunlight was intense, streaming through the window and covering half of Selene's body.
Why wasn't Selene affected?
"You are a Daywalker too?!"
Blade was quite surprised; this was the first time he had seen a Daywalker among the vampires other than himself.
