Chapter 181 - 181: Stunning Dresses

Upon seeing the catastrophic scene, the gamblers who had been indulging in chance and luck immediately screamed and fled outside. Their voices echoed through the large hall.

Life mattered more than berries, after all.

Within moments, the once crowded casino emptied almost completely. Only a few guards remained at the entrance, standing without surprise or panic. Scenes like this were familiar to them.

The guard captain nodded at Rolan, signaling his subordinates to begin cleaning up. Rolan turned his gaze toward the blind man beside him, a mix of respect and curiosity settling into his expression.

He knew the man was Issho, a to-be Marine officer famed for his strong sense of justice. Someone ambitious and principled — otherwise he would never have entered the World Draft in the original timeline. Rumor had it he once hoped to change the Marines from within.

But after joining, Issho discovered the harsh truth: the Marines answered to the World Government. They did not uphold justice for the common people as he once believed. Instead, they served the powerful and the entitled, the Celestial Dragons included. In his mind, the Marines had become little more than the Government's lackeys.

When the Straw Hat Crew defeated Doflamingo and freed Dressrosa, Issho saw a rare chance to understand the true nature of the infamous pirate Rolan. After all, Doflamingo was a Shichibukai and a Government asset. Despite his personal disgust for the man, Issho had to aid Doflamingo in restoring order and quelling the rebels — including Rolan and Law.

He had long distrusted Fleet Admiral Akainu's dogmatic fixation on reputation above all else.

Rolan turned and stepped outside. "Let's talk as we walk."

Issho inclined his head. "Then I'll follow your lead."

The blind Marine warily navigated the path beside Rolan. Despite his condition, Issho's Observation Haki was masterful. He could sense strength, disposition, even the faintest flicker of intent. And right now, there was no trace of evil in Rolan's aura.

Which meant the rumors — at least about malevolence — were misleading.

"Mr. Rolan," Issho asked, his voice calm, "you seem familiar with me?"

Rolan's eyes remained distant, but his tone was neutral. "Yes. I pay attention to powerful people who enact justice."

Issho gave a humble laugh. "You flatter me. I am merely an old man doing what I can. Not as noble as you suggest."

Rolan didn't know the specifics of Issho's past deeds, but a man with such strength and conviction must have done many good acts — small kindnesses and brave stands alike. Issho's answer confirmed that.

"People like you are what this world needs," Rolan said as they walked, his voice flat but sincere. "Tell me, why do you want to see me?"

Issho smiled. "I've heard from many that you aren't the villain people paint you to be. The common folk speak highly of you. I wanted to see the truth for myself."

Rolan raised an eyebrow and looked up at the stars overhead. "And have you found your answer?"

Issho shook his head. "You are like a veil of mist, Mr. Rolan. It cannot be seen through in just moments."

Rolan's mind shifted. If he could bring Issho into the Ion crew, it would strengthen their force significantly. But if he couldn't recruit him, he certainly could not let the Marines take advantage of such power.

So he offered, calmly,

"Since it's unclear for now, why don't you travel with me for a while, Mr. Issho?"

Issho paused, then nodded. "Then I'll trouble you, Mr. Rolan."

Rolan blinked, slightly taken aback by the ease of his acceptance. Powerful men were usually hard to persuade, but Issho seemed… not dismissive, yet thoughtful.

Rolan's Electromagnetic Fruit should have helped him sense deeper intentions, but even that had its limits against someone of Issho's caliber.

"I still have things to handle in Golden City before we return to the ship. What are your plans, Mr. Issho?"

Issho's voice was soft but earnest. "I have no pressing duties. I have time."

Satisfied with his answer, Rolan walked toward where Hancock and the others were shopping.

Golden City lived up to its name as a massive vessel nearly ten kilometers in length. It took Rolan and Issho about ten minutes to reach the clothing boutique where Hancock and the others awaited.

"Husband, you're just in time," Hancock said as soon as Rolan entered. She struck a pose, turning so he could evaluate her. "How do you like this dress?"

Hancock wore a sleek, crimson gown with a high slit at the side, revealing long, graceful legs. The neckline was stylish — bold but elegant. Her curves were flawless and confident. She was undeniably stunning.

For a moment, Rolan's gaze lingered, appreciating the beauty before him. Hancock was regarded as one of the most beautiful women in the world — and her aura, sharpened by Rolan's consistent support and closeness, made her radiate as a mature, captivating partner.

"You look… stunning," Rolan said, his voice undeniably impressed.

At that moment, Robin and Vivi stepped out of the fitting rooms as well.

Robin's outfit was tasteful yet alluring — a form-fitting top and skirt paired with elegant stockings that gleamed under the boutique lights. Her calm confidence emanated like polished steel.

Vivi's attire was more modest: a soft yellow top embroidered with floral patterns and a flowing blue skirt. Still, her natural poise and beauty gave her presence a quiet nobility that drew the eye.

Rolan's lips tightened, barely noticeable, but his gaze lingered just a fraction too long.

He wiped his mouth almost subconsciously, an unfamiliar sensation spreading across his expression.

…Not again.

What was going on?

He wasn't sure, but he quickly composed himself.
