Chapter 111- Laboon
A couple of minutes later, Crocus resurfaced near the giant doors and climbed the ladder beside them.
As he reached the top, a smaller door burst open. Then two figures—a man and a woman—stepped out. They had guns and were aiming straight at Corcus.
Before they could fire the gun, I released the small amount Conqueror's Haki and slammed into them, knocking them off balance. They tumbled screaming into the acid below.
Crocus could handle them but I helped him to gain some goodwill.
Crocus looked at me as he recognized the Conqueror's Haki. He then walked through the door they had come from and vanished inside.
Nami stared at me. "Why did you help him? Isn't he trying to kill the whale or something?"
"No," I said. "He's trying to save it."
"For now, let's pull those two out before the acid finishes them off." I added while looking at Lily.
Lily nodded. She then stretched her arm with her Rubber-Rubber Devil Fruit power. Her hand extended across the green acid, scooping up the struggling pair and hauling them back toward the ship.
We had just pulled the two struggling figures from the acid and dragged them aboard. Nami stepped forward confidently, hands on her hips as she addressed them.
"We saved you. Now, can you tell us who you are?"
The man and woman exchanged hushed words between themselves, ignoring Nami for a moment. Meanwhile, everyone else watched in silence. I was amused looking Vivi as she was acting like some sort of idiot.
Then we all noticed something. The violent thrashing inside the whale had stopped. The green acid in its stomach settled into gentle ripples.
From the top of the ladder, Crocus bellowed down at them.
"You people are still here? As long as I draw breath, you won't lay a single harmful finger on Laboon!"
The woman let out a low, sinister laugh. "You can say that all you want, old man, but we won't quit."
I couldn't help but smile inwardly.
'Wow, Vivi looks so evil right now.'
It was almost comical seeing her play the villain like this. I wish I had video Den Den Mushi to record this moment. I could show her this while lying in the bed.
'I will definitely try this evil cospay in bed when I have sex with her.'
"Killing this whale is our mission," the man declared, raising his arm. "And this time, we won't let you interfere. We're going to blow a hole right through its stomach!"
They both triggered whatever explosives they had hidden. Cannonballs launched toward the fleshy wall.
In that instant, I activated my Armament Haki and stepped forward and placed myself directly in their path. The shots detonated against my body in a burst of smoke and fire.
The girls didn't flinch as they knew better. But the man and Vivi stared in stunned disbelief.
'Is this guy an idiot? Or is he trying to kill himself?' I could practically hear Vivi thinking it.
When the smoke cleared, I stood there completely unscathed. There was not even a dirt on my clothes.
Lily moved like a blur. She appeared behind the pair and delivered two swift punches to the backs of their heads. They crumpled to the deck and fainted. The girls quickly tied them up with rope from the ship.
I turned to Crocus with a casual smile.
"Old man, we really want to get out of here. Can you help us?"
He grunted. "Fine."
Without another word, he dove back into the acid and swam over to his strange boat-island hybrid. "Follow me," he called.
His little island began to move, chugging steadily toward the two giant metal doors. As we approached, the doors groaned open, revealing a narrow canal carved into the whale's flesh.
Nami blinked in confusion as we sailed through the canal passage.
"Why does this whale have a canal inside it?"
Crocus chuckled dryly while answering us.
"It is the treatment process. Treating something this massive the normal way is impossible, so I had to improvise."
We all nodded, impressed. Kaya's eyes lit up with curiosity.
'This is a doctor from the Grand Line. His thinking is on another level.'
She leaned forward toward him.
"So you're a doctor? I'm one too. Would you be willing to share some of your knowledge with me?"
"You helped me out," Crocus replied. "So yeah, it's only fair."
At the end of the canal, another set of doors waited. Crocus pulled a lever on his island, and they slid open. Brilliant sunlight poured in, blinding at first. We all squinted and then broke into wide smiles as fresh sea air hit us.
We sailed out into the open ocean and docked beside the Twin Capes, right where Crocus made his home.
Most of the crew hopped off the ship and wandered onto the small island connected to the Red Line, where the old lighthouse stood.

Kaya was deep in discussion with Crocus. She was listening attentively as he shared his vast knowledge of medicine with her.
She was asking various thoughtful questions, clearly eager to learn everything she could from someone with so much experience. She was like a student hungry for the knowledge.
At the same time, Nami had taken it upon herself to stay busy in the kitchen and prepare a proper meal for everyone.
Lily and Kuina were there with her in the kitchen.
Kuina was skillfully chopping vegetables while Lily was sneaking food. Nami had even bonked her head a few times.
