KonohaGakure no Sato :
Village Streets :
The streets of Konoha were bathed in the soft light of a mid-September morning, but five days after the team assignments had resumed, the atmosphere in the village Streets was anything but peaceful.
A heavy, jagged tension hung in the air. On one side, Sakura stood defensively near Konohamaru and his little squad, while Sasuke sat perched on a high tree branch, tossing a small stone between his hands with practiced indifference.
Opposite them stood two foreigners: Kankuro, a boy with purple face paint and a bundled-up puppet on his back, and Temari, a girl carrying a massive iron-ribbed fan.
"You're a long way from home to be picking on kids," Sasuke said, his voice dripping with cool indifference.
Kankuro was currently nursing a bruised hand, his face twisted in a snarl. Sasuke had just sniped him with a pebble, an insult that stung far more than the physical impact.
"That was a stupid thing to do, kid," Kankuro growled, his hand reaching for the wrappings of the puppet on his back. "I'm going to make you regret—"
"Kankuro. Stop that."
A sharp, hollow voice drifted down from the canopy. The sound was so sudden, so devoid of presence, that even Sasuke's eyes widened. He looked up, realizing with a jolt of adrenaline that someone was standing on the exact same Tree as him, just a branch away, yet he hadn't sensed a thing.
( when ?/ )
Standing upside down on the underside of the branch was a boy with pale skin, no eyebrows, and hair the color of dried blood. A massive sand-gourd was strapped to his back, and his sea-foam eyes were ringed with dark, sleepless circles.
"You're an embarrassment to our village," the boy said, his voice as cold as a mountain grave.
The clearing went silent. Konohamaru and his friends stared in awe at the strange kid's gravity-defying entrance. Kankuro, meanwhile, had gone visibly pale. A bead of sweat rolled down his painted cheek.
"G-Gaara," Kankuro stammered, his bravado evaporating.
Temari immediately folded her arms, her aggressive posture melting into one of wary submission. Sasuke watched the red-haired boy intently, his mind racing. His stealth is incredible.
( How long has he been there? )
Gaara ignored the locals, keeping his murderous gaze fixed on his teammate. "Why do you think we came all the way to the Hidden Leaf? Huh?"
"P-please listen to me, Gaara," Kankuro pleaded, his voice trembling. "They lashed out first! This brat bumped into me and didn't even apologize—"
"Shut up," Gaara interrupted. The air in the clearing seemed to drop five degrees. "Any more nonsense out of you... and I will kill you."
The threat wasn't a boast; The sheer killing intent radiating from Gaara was thick enough to choke the air. Kankuro swallowed hard, his knees nearly buckling. "Understood. I was wrong. I'm sorry... I'm really sorry."
Gaara turned his head slowly, his eyes locking onto Sasuke. For a moment, it was as if the rest of the world had faded away.
"I'm sorry about that," Gaara said, though his tone held no genuine warmth.
Sasuke stared back, his own competitive fire rising. He could feel the danger rolling off this kid in waves. Gaara, too, was analyzing the Uchiha.
( To hit Kankuro with a rock from that distance so casually... this guy is good. )
" what"
" ehh "
" how "
Then, without a word, Gaara's body began to crumble into fine grains of sand. In a blur of movement, he vanished from the branch and reformed instantly on the ground next to Temari and Kankuro.
"Let's go," Gaara commanded. "We didn't come here to play around."
"Hold it!"
The Sand team paused as Sakura stepped forward. She crossed her arms, looking them up and down.
"Judging from your headbands, you're ninja from the Hidden Sand, right? What are you doing in our village?"
"....."
"Are you here for the Chunin Exams, or do you have another reason for lurking around our streets? Tell me."
Temari gave a mocking little smirk, reaching into her pouch to pull out a laminated permit. "As you guessed, we're Genin from the Sand. We're here for the Chunin Exams. Here's our ID card. Happy now?"
Sakura looked at the card, the realization hitting her. The exams were really happening. As the Sand trio turned to walk away, Sasuke dropped from the tree, landing silently in the middle of the street.
"Hey, you there," Sasuke called out. "What's your name?"
The trio of the sands stopped with Temari looking back and speaking with face flushed a deep pink. "H-huh? Me?"
"Not you," Sasuke said, not even glancing her way. He pointed directly at the boy with the gourd. "The Gourd next to you."
Gaara stopped, looking back over his shoulder. A faint, glint appeared in his eyes.
"I am Gaara of the Desert. I have an interest in you as well. And you?"
Sasuke allowed a small, confident smirk to play on his lips.
"Uchiha..... Uchiha Sasuke."
The wind kicked up a small dust devil between them as they locked eyes—one the survivor of a massacre, the other a weapon of his village. After a tense silence, the Sand trio turned and disappeared into the morning crowd.
Watching from the shadows of a nearby oak tree, three other figures observed the exchange. They wore the headbands of the Hidden Sound, their faces mostly obscured by bandages and high collars.
"What do you think?" the girl of the group asked.
Their leader, a man whose head was wrapped entirely in bandages except for a single, piercing eye, let out a dry chuckle. "I don't think they're anything special. Except for the black-haired Uchiha and the one with the gourd... the rest are fodder."
--------------------------------------
An hour later, Gaara, Temari, and Kankuro were navigating the deeper streets of Konoha. Kankuro had finally regained some of his ego.
"Hmph. These Konoha Genin are nothing special," Kankuro remarked, hands behind his head. "Don't you think, Temari?"
"Except for that Uchiha, everyone else we've seen looks pretty average," she agreed. "It shouldn't be much of a problem for us."
Suddenly, Gaara stopped dead in his tracks.
"Eh? What happened, Gaara?"
Gaara didn't answer. He was staring straight ahead at a small takoyaki stall. Standing there was a group of six Genin, chatting and laughing loudly. But as the Sand trio got closer, the senses of the Sand Trio began to scream.
Except for one blonde boy in the center, the group looked disheveled and dusty, as if they had just returned from a high-intensity mission. There was an Inuzuka with a pup on his head, a chubby boy eating chips, a lazy-looking Nara, and a shy Hyuga girl standing on the edge of the circle.
"These people...and that Blonde, they're strong," Gaara whispered.
Kankuro and Temari looked at the center of the group. There were two blondes—a girl with ponytail who was bickering playfully with a boy. The girl gave off an aura of suppressed lethality that made Kankuro's skin crawl.
But it was the boy who drew all the attention. He wasn't hiding his chakra. In fact, it was roaring. To a civilian, he just looked like a handsome kid in a hoodie, but to a shinobi, he was a walking red alert.
(So much chakra... it's on par with Gaara... maybe even more,) Kankuro thought, his hand trembling.
(His presence unsettles me. It ticks me off,) Gaara's sand began to stir in his gourd.
(...SO HANDSOME. Even better than the Uchiha ) Temari thought, momentarily dazed.
"Excuse me."
The voice came from directly behind the Sand trio.
( what )
( when )
( what the f*ck man )
All three dispersed instantly, years of survival instincts kicking in. They formed a defensive triangle, facing the "threat." Gaara's sand was already swirling in the air, Temari's fan was half-unfolded, and Kankuro's puppet was twitching.
They found themselves facing an unassuming, Dark glass-wearing boy who had somehow appeared two steps behind them without making a sound.
"Who the hell are you?!" Kankuro barked.
Sensing the hostility, the boy—Shino—didn't move his hands from his pockets, but hundreds of black beetles began to pour from his sleeves and collar, buzzing in a low, ominous drone.
But before the Sand ninja could strike, they realized they were already surrounded.
Kankuro found Kiba and Choji flanking him, their expressions unusually grim. Temari was boxed in by Shikamaru and Ino. And Gaara? Gaara found himself flanked by Naruto and Hinata.
( How .) X3
The pressure was suffocating. Every single one of the Konoha Genin had their eyes locked on a target. The Sand trio was sweating buckets, the sense of impending death hanging over them like a shroud.
( We're going to die ) Kankuro realized with a jolt of terror.
The Sand Shinobi moved but an instant later they found themselves paralysed
"Shadow Imitation Jutsu: Success."
Shikamaru was crouched nearby, a single hand seal held tight. His shadow had snaked across the ground, connecting with all three Sand ninja simultaneously.
Gaara tried to brute-force his sand into a shield, but just as he moved, he felt a soft, firm touch on his neck. His chakra suddenly hit a wall, his commands falling on deaf ears as a surge of paralysis washed over his body.
"Easy there, big guy," the blonde boy—said, his arm slung over Gaara's shoulder .
Naruto casually slung an arm over Gaara's shoulder, leaning in like an old friend. He caught Gaara's gaze, his blue eyes holding a terrifyingly calm depth.
The street became silent , seeing People with Konoha Headband encircling others , The pedestrians ran away , The stall owners were paralysed and hide themselves under the stall .
Seeing the situation had peaked, Shino spoke up, his voice monotone.
"I apologize for the scare. I was just passing through. AND Guys... relax "
At Shino's word, the Konoha Genin visibly relaxed. They tucked their weapons away and eased their stances. Kiba stood up from his four-legged pounce, Choji went back to his chips, and Ino started fixing her hair.
Soon everyone connected the dots for this situation , especially looking at shino.
"Damn it, Shino! Will you stop scaring people?" Kiba complained, rubbing the back of his head.
"Shino-kun is always scary," Choji added between munches.
"Seriously," Ino sighed. "Why do you have to approach people from behind like a ghost?"
"Sh-Shino-kun... really?" Hinata whispered, her cheeks pink.
"With a habit like that, you're going to get a nickname soon," Shikamaru muttered, still holding the seal. "The 'Boogeyman' of the Leaf or something."
"Or maybe the Ghost of Konoha," Naruto snickered, his arm still draped over Gaara.
" but who are these kids "
" Their headbands are from Sunagakure right "
" you mean from sand "
" yeah "
" but aren't sand and us in alliance "
" idiot , just think . Shino scared them ,"
" yeah , someone behind you without a hint , even i get scared sometimes "
"Ughhh So troublesome "
" But why are they in our village "
Naruto looked at the three foreigners, noting their headbands and spoke while addressing his friends
"You guys just got back, so you probably haven't heard, but these guys are guests. They're here for the Chunin Exams."
"Chunin Exams?" Kiba blinked. "Is that happening?"
"Yeah, it was announced a week ago. Starts in five days," Naruto explained. He looked at Shikamaru.
"Alright, Shika, let them go. They're guests, after all"
"What a drag," Shikamaru sighed, releasing the jutsu.
Naruto also pulled his hand back, releasing the chakra seal he had subtly applied to Gaara's neck. The Sand Genin stumbled slightly as their motor functions returned. They were still in combat mode, their hearts racing, looking at the laughing group of Konoha Genin in total disbelief.
Naruto took a step forward, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Haha, sorry about that. Total misunderstanding. Shino has a weird habit of sneaking up on people. Hope you guys don't mind."
The Sand trio took a collective breath, trying to steady their shaking hands. Gaara was the first to stand down, his sand flowing back into his gourd in a slow, hypnotic stream. Seeing Gaara back off, Kankuro and Temari followed suit.
"Haha! Seriously, as an apology, how about some takoyaki from our village?" Naruto offered, gesturing to the stall. "It's on me."
Kankuro and Temari's eyes twitched at the boy's sheer nonchalance. They had been seconds away from a bloodbath, and now he was offering them snacks? But they knew better than to push their luck. They could feel the hidden strength in this group.
( Let's not forget our mission )
Gaara ignored the offer, his eyes fixed solely on Naruto. "Your name?"
"Huh?"
"What is your name?" Gaara repeated, his voice less murderous and more... intrigued.
"Oh. I'm Uzumaki Naruto," Naruto replied with a grin.
Gaara took a slow breath, as if memorizing the name. Without another word, he turned and walked away. Temari and Kankuro followed close behind, casting one last, wary look at the "Rookie Seven " But before they can move more than 5 steps, the sand trio stopped and Gaara looked back again and spoke
" and You ?? "
The Konoha genins were surprised at the question , they followed Gaara's gaze and looked at the Aburame , Shino adjusted his glasses and spoke
" Aburame Shino "
" ...My name is Gaara , Gaara of the sand , let's meet in chunin exams , Uzumaki Naruto and Aburame Shino "
Naruto and others watched the sand trio leaving , soon their discussion was shifted towards the sand people
" damn , That Gaara looked dangerous , and I am not saying about his eybrowless look "
" Shino and Naruto got confessed hahaha "
" A crazy guy is now after you naruto-kun "
" why only me , there is also shino you know "
" but shino won't be noticed hahaha "
" you guys .....stop teasing me "
" That guy looks trouble "
" Yeahhh.....seems troublesome "
" I am Hungry "
" So it's chunin Exams "
" let's fight our way through , right akamaru "
" woof"
" all three looked strong "
" it seems we need to take chunin exams seriously , right Hinata "
" hmm , le...let's do our best ...E,..everyone "
Naruto " Come on Boss ,10 packings of Takoyaki "
" ohh " bewildered boss
" dude , you still focused on Takoyaki "
" I support Naruto-kun *munch* "
" urhhh , but i am indeed hungry "
" us too , right Akamaru "
" alright , ladies first you guys wait "
" what , that's not fair "
" troublesome "
" *munch* I support Gender-equality Ino-chan "
" Shut up Choji , should I eat your chips then "
" .....Ino chan and Hinata chan should eat first "
Shino " Thank you guys for your support earlier "
" kyaaaa"
" whaaaaa"
" damn shino , what the hell "
" AWOOOOOOO , WOOF "
" ....Oh my heart "
" so troublesome , just how does he disappear in front of our eyes "
" it's Kekkai genkai , i tell you guys "
" ...to disappear from even By...Byakugan ...Shino-kun you "
" ........... you guys "
Looking at his friends reactions , Shino adjusted his glasses while feeling baffled inside , Just earlier they all came to support him , making him feeling warm inside , but now they all forgot him instantly just 2 minutes later .
( ...is it really some Kekkai Genkai )
Somehow Shino doubted himself .
