Both Hyoka and Kusuo watched with anticipation. Probably because they were the only two who knew that we were dating. The other two kind of just watched obliviously like the other performances.
"Alrighty then! We'll start with Kea the Great!"
It's time, I guess, being put in the spotlight like this is a lot of mental work. It was easy laughing with the crowd, but now I'm here, the one in the middle.
I couldn't look Nil in the eyes, so I slowly reached out and handed Nil the gift. She looked back at me, high emotion, no words.
"Silent as ever," Shinzo whispered to Kusuo. "Not a word, it must be awkward in the position we put him in."
Nil opened the bag, and a small box sat buried in the walls of the bag. Quietly, she reached inside. When her hand closed around the box, she pulled it out in an instant. She opened it for a second and then closed it again, then placed it down beside her.
She leaned back and shuffled through her own bag.
"You should open yours at the same time!"
"Uh, ok." I stuttered as I took the bag.
Kusuo gave me the look of a proud parent.
I opened the bag, and another box was waiting at the bottom.
"Ok, now open it!!"
Nil knows something I don't.
I opened the box. A bracelet with a single blue moon charm at the end.
"Wait… There's no way!" My eyes fixated on the box I had given her.
Nil pulled out hers, an almost identical bracelet with a red sun charm placed at the end, identical to mine.
"Ooohhh, so sweet!" Kusuo giggled.
"Oooo, how sweet! Hey Kea, matching bracelets with a girl, how do you feel?" Shinzo teased, elbowing my shoulder.
Hyoka put his hand on Shinzo's shoulder. "Shinzo… Those two are already dating. It would be weird if this was the best they've done."
…
Shinzo's face swapped between surprise and disbelief. "Who!? Kea!?" He ran over to Nil. "I'm so sorry, Nil!! I had ABSOLUTELY no clue! Please don't shun me from Kea!"
Nil laughed. "I don't want you going anywhere near him. You're too loud."
"Damn it! Don't rub it in, lady!"
"Wait, what? Kea grabbed himself a girlfriend without telling me?" Naka faltered. Then stood back up straight. "I… feel so betrayed…"
Hyoka coughed into his arm mockingly. "Welp, I've got to head out now guys."
"Oh, yeah, I guess it's getting a little late.. See you, Hyoka!"
After everyone had gone their separate ways, Nil grabbed my arm and pressed her shoulder against mine.
"Today was fun, I wonder if we'll do something like this again!"
I barely heard her. I just walked, accepting my current position with gratitude.
