Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Regret

But since Qian Yafen said that, Yiyi naturally pulled her mother and sister away quickly.

Watching Ding Yuejun and the others walk away, Qian Yafen glanced at her daughter and said, "Meina, go wash the dishes."

"Why should I wash them? I didn't even eat."

Mo Meina pouted with a look of reluctance.

"Meina, go wash them."

Qian Yafen still smiled as she spoke, but seeing her mother like this, Mo Meina couldn't help but shrink back. Despite her mother's kind appearance, Meina had always been most afraid of her. So despite her reluctance, she grudgingly went to wash the dishes.

Old Mrs. Mo saw her beloved Meina going to wash dishes and quickly stopped her, turning to her daughter-in-law and saying, "Yafen, Meina didn't even eat those, why make her wash dishes? Let Ding Yuejun wash them tomorrow. How could she eat from those dishes and expect someone else to wash them?"

Upon hearing this, Mo Meina looked at her mother.

Qian Yafen hesitated for a moment before saying awkwardly, "Mom, let Meina wash them. I see that my sister-in-law has been tired these past two days, let's not make her work."

"Hmph… tired of what? What did she even do these past few days? She's done nothing but hang around with that useless Mo Xiaohong, can't even hold onto a man. Useless." Old Mrs. Mo, reminded of recent family issues, grew more dissatisfied with Ding Yuejun and the others.

Hearing this, Qian Yafen hesitated again but ultimately agreed with her mother-in-law.

"Alright, let's not make Meina wash."

Upon hearing this, Mo Meina immediately turned around, happy, and refused to go to the kitchen.

On the other side, Ding Yuejun felt a bit uneasy.

"Yiyi, are we really okay just leaving like this? After all, we ate those things; we should be washing the dishes."

Hearing this, Mo Yiyi sighed, "Mom, it's fine. We've done so many chores in this house; what's wrong with having Meina wash some dishes? We're all granddaughters, but Meina has never done housework." Saying this, Yiyi looked a bit forlorn.

Hearing Yiyi, Ding Yuejun felt heartbroken but her expression became resolute.

"Yes, what's wrong with letting Meina wash the dishes? You've always done these chores; Meina has never done anything. Why should our Yiyi be treated unfairly?" Compared to Mo Meina, Yiyi has had it much harder.

Mo Xiaohong, aware of the family's dynamics, felt her initial discomfort ease.

Yes, they're all granddaughters. Why does Meina have it easy while she and Yiyi have to do everything?

Seeing her mother and sister gain clarity, Mo Yiyi smiled. From now on, she would let them see the true nature of the Mo family and be more indifferent toward the rest of the Mo family. Members like Old Mrs. Mo and Mo Guowei were better off not existing.

However, the next day, Mo Yiyi found that the dishes were still unwashed, and Old Mrs. Mo was pointing at Ding Yuejun, saying, "Ding Yuejun, go wash those dishes. You ate from them and didn't wash them yourself, expecting Meina to do it for you. It's utterly unreasonable."

Upon hearing this, Yiyi glared coldly at Old Mrs. Mo.

But Old Mrs. Mo ignored Yiyi and turned to Ding Yuejun, saying, "What are you standing there for? Hurry and wash the dishes."

Seeing Old Mrs. Mo's stern demeanor, Ding Yuejun instinctively moved towards the kitchen—a habit formed over many years, hard to break at once.

Seeing this, Mo Yiyi pulled her mother back. "Mom, don't go."

Her daughter's pull snapped Ding Yuejun back to reality, but seeing her mother-in-law's stern face, she hesitated.

"What are you doing? Are you trying to rebel? None of you are listening. I'm telling you, if you…"

Before Old Mrs. Mo could finish, Jiang Huirong walked in.

Seeing Jiang Huirong enter, everyone stopped, and Mo Yiyi squinted slightly, realizing Shanshan wasn't there. "Where's Shanshan?"

Upon hearing this, Jiang Huirong replied, "Shanshan hasn't woken up yet, so I came first. After we settle the divorce at the town with Mo Xiaohong, she'll be awake. I'll bring her over then."

Last night, after telling his family about the divorce, his mother was the first to object to bringing Shanshan back. He found it odd, given that she didn't like her granddaughter. Later, his mother explained.

His mother wanted to use Shanshan to control Mo Xiaohong so that even after the divorce, she'd still be useful to the Jiang Family.

Convinced by his mother's logic, Jiang Huirong didn't want to bring Shanshan back.

"Ha…"

Hearing this, Mo Yiyi's face was full of sarcasm.

The excuse Jiang Huirong found was too perfunctory; kids usually wake up early. How could Shanshan still be asleep? Clearly, he changed his mind and didn't want to bring Shanshan over.

Thinking this, Mo Yiyi looked sharply at Jiang Huirong, saying, "Did you change your mind?"

Under Mo Yiyi's penetrating gaze, Jiang Huirong felt a sudden guilt, but then he got angry that he was intimidated by a little girl. "Who said I changed my mind? When I came, Shanshan wasn't awake. Where's Mo Xiaohong? Get her out here to go to the town and complete the divorce!"

"Is Shanshan here?"

Mo Xiaohong, who was in the backyard feeding chickens, rushed over upon hearing Jiang Huirong's voice. Seeing her daughter absent, she nervously asked, "Where's Shanshan? Why isn't she here?"

"When I came, Shanshan was still asleep. Let's get the divorce done in town first. We can bring Shanshan back after that."

Hearing this, Mo Xiaohong frowned, saying, "Impossible. Shanshan usually wakes up at six. How could she still be asleep?"

Hearing Mo Xiaohong, Mo Yiyi was convinced Jiang Huirong was lying.

"Sister, it seems someone has changed his mind. The Jiang Family doesn't want to give us Shanshan back. They probably want her to stay and work for them obediently." Without Shanshan here, her sister couldn't settle the divorce with Jiang Huirong, or there would be complications later. She'd need to approach this differently.

Mo Yiyi looked at Jiang Huirong with deep, mocking eyes.

If Jiang Huirong didn't want to resolve this peacefully, she wouldn't hesitate to use other means.
