Clara acted as if she hadn't heard their conversation at all, and turned directly to Gregory. "You stay too. If you leave, who's going to take me home later?"
Gregory had only been offering to leave out of politeness, he hadn't really planned on going. Hearing this, he nodded readily, a gracious smile spreading across his face.
"In that case, consider it my sworn duty."
Listening to his mock-formal tone, Clara snarked, "Even an eighty-year-old grandpa wouldn't talk like you."
Gregory went with her flow. "Reaching the wisdom of an eighty-year-old at thirty—looks like I'm really winning at life."
