He'd smelled the rich aroma of meat as soon as he'd stepped into the cave, instantly awakening his hunger.
Luna understood what he was after, smiled, and walked to the cave's entrance to scoop him a bowl of bone and mushroom soup.
As she served it up, she said, "I actually used the offal to cook a few tasty dishes, but when I went out to fetch water this afternoon, my Matron snuck in and ate them. There's still some left, but since my Matron grabbed them with her hands, I figure you guys wouldn't want it, so I just gave it all to my Dad instead."
After speaking, she looked over at Malachi and handed over the bowl of soup in her hands. "It just came off the fire, be careful—it's hot."
She also fetched a pair of chopsticks for him, explaining how to use them in case he couldn't.
Malachi took the soup and chopsticks, face calm, though a trace of satisfaction flickered in his eyes.
