The sun was shining brightly.
Hongguo got up and went straight to the kitchen to make breakfast, while Wen Ran, having stayed up late last night, was still sleeping soundly.
Cooking smoke curled upward,
"Sis!"
Hongguo slung her bag over her shoulder, "I'm heading out now! The meal's ready, have some before you go up the mountain to gather pigweed.
By the way, I'll lock the door from the outside on my way out, sis, if you need to go out, just climb over the wall!"
She was going to school, leaving the main door open would be unsafe.

Hongguo gave a shy smile, she wasn't sure she could manage that.
Wen Ran seemed to hear, but maybe not, only feeling a noisy clatter around her ears, waves her hand like swatting away flies.
