Chapter 387 - Chapter 387 - The Prelude to Destiny

Location: The Crucible Grounds - VIP Section

Time: Present Day - Tournament Finals

The VIP section hummed with a quiet, reverent tension. Brenda sat in a relaxed, almost cozy position, her legs crossed, her hands resting on her knees. A cup of steaming tea sat on the armrest beside her, its surface catching the golden light that seemed to radiate from her presence. Her expression was one of quiet amusement, her eyes fixed on the arena below.

Michael Snovidenie stood before her, his posture one of respectful deference. His body was bowed slightly, his hand pressed against his chest in a gesture of submission. His voice carried a note of genuine respect.

"Quantum Flow Adept," he said, his words measured and deliberate. "I apologize for my loss. I should have performed better. I should have brought honor to the Snovidenie name."

Kael, seated nearby, stiffened. His eyes widened, his body rigid with barely contained shock. His voice carried a note of genuine disbelief.

"You... you are a Quantum Flow Adept? A Soul Surge? How is that possible? I've never—"

Michael's head snapped toward him, his voice sharp with cold authority. "You dare speak in the presence of a Quantum Flow Adept without her permission? Know your place, you puny Circuit-Bound. You are nothing more than a threshold-three awakened. You are not worthy to even breathe the same air as her."

Kael's jaw tightened, his internal voice carrying a note of bitter frustration.

Nineteen years, he thought, his internal voice heavy with regret. Nineteen years I trained in the old way. Synaptic Realm. Quantum Flow. Internal Concord. Bio Alignment. Each stage a mountain to climb, each Gate a chasm to cross.

His gaze shifted to Brenda, his internal voice carrying a note of dawning realization.

The old way—the Breath of Heaven—could take decades to even cross a single Gate. Those without proper teachers, without backing... it could take a lifetime. But the new way—the Weave—changed everything. It allowed me to finally cross the first Gate. To reach Circuit Awakening.

He bowed lower, his internal voice carrying a note of grudging respect.

But she... she is a Quantum Flow Adept. A Soul Surge. To reach that stage... to cross all four Gates of the old way... it requires more than just training. It requires direct descent. Moulding from childhood by teachers who have lived for centuries. Teachers who have seen the rise and fall of empires. The birth and death of nations.

His internal voice carried a note of bitter humor.

And I've been speaking to her like an equal this entire time. And she never once corrected me. Never once put me in my place.

His expression shifted to one of self-deprecating amusement.

Maybe when you've lived as long as she has, such things are beneath your notice. Maybe it's some kind of fetish for them—to be so casual with those beneath them. A way to amuse themselves. Perhaps it's the only entertainment left for those who have seen it all.

---

Michael's voice carried a note of genuine inquiry. "Quantum Flow Adept, may I ask... what is it about the girl Grace that allowed her to defeat me?"

Brenda's lips curved into a thin smile. "It's alright, child. Such a loss is not something for one of the Snovidenie to grovel over."

Michael's brow furrowed. "But—"

Brenda's hand raised, her gesture one of quiet authority. "Actually, it would have gone either way. It's just that you so heavily underestimated her. Your pride, your arrogance, your belief that no one from a place like this could ever challenge you."

Michael's expression shifted to one of quiet shame.

Brenda's voice carried a note of gentle wisdom. "It was good for once that someone from this tiny corner of the world beat you. It will aid in your maturation. I've always wondered when you would start that journey."

Michael's voice carried a note of genuine confusion. "But Quantum Flow Adept... the way she fought. The energy she used. It wasn't the Weave. It wasn't the Breath of Heaven. It was something else entirely. Something completely foreign."

Brenda's expression shifted to one of quiet curiosity. "You aren't wrong. I too, am intrigued by it. I've only been able to form a hypothesis—a mere twelve percent understanding of what it truly is."

Michael's eyes widened. "If even you aren't aware of it, Quantum Flow Adept, then she is a Deviant. An Anomaly. The kind that are deemed condemned among our people."

His voice dropped, his hands moving in a gesture that suggested quiet violence.

Brenda's voice carried a note of gentle wisdom. "The one who always makes decisions due to the unpredictable challenges at their corner may end up slipping. Patience and careful observation are the keys to finding the right solution."

Michael bowed his head, his voice carrying a note of genuine gratitude. "Thank you, Quantum Flow Adept. For your wisdom. For your patience."

Brenda's voice carried a note of quiet anticipation. "As once foretold, when the Deviant would one day grace these lands, bringing overturning and change... I, for one, am looking forward to seeing his performance."

Michael's expression shifted to one of quiet understanding. "You mean the Deviant... is here? Among us?"

Brenda's lips curved into a knowing smile. "What you are thinking right now, lad, is indeed the case. We are in the beginning of something new. Something that will reshape everything we know."

---

A voice from nearby cut through the tension, sharp with dry sarcasm. "Oh, great. Another one with a destiny complex. Because that's exactly what this dump needed."

It was Kael's voice, still pitched low but loud enough to reach Brenda and Michael. His eyes remained fixed on the floor, but the hint of a smirk played at his lips.

Michael's head snapped toward him, his voice carrying a note of cold fury. "You—"

Kael raised a hand, his voice carrying a note of exaggerated patience. "Easy there, Frost Heir. I'm just saying. This place is a dump, you got your ass beat, and now we're talking about destiny. It's a lot to process. A lot of irony, really."

Michael's face flushed with anger. "You dare mock me, you—"

Kael's voice was flat, dismissive. "Mock you? I'm mocking the situation. There's a difference. You're just collateral damage in the cosmic joke."

---

The arena buzzed with electric anticipation as the final match was announced. The holographic banners flickered, displaying the names of the two remaining competitors in bold, shimmering script.

Kazimir Zelenko's voice boomed through the speakers, layered with electronic distortion.

"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! The moment you've all been waiting for! The Crucible Grounds tournament final!"

A voice from the crowd chimed in, dry and sarcastic. "Oh good, another existential crisis wrapped in a fight. Just what I needed."

The speaker was a man in his forties with a deadpan expression, his arms crossed. His companion, a woman in a sleek coat, rolled her eyes.

"Focus," she said, her voice flat. "We're supposed to be blending in. Not making comments."

The man shrugged. "I'm blending. I'm just a bitter spectator with a bad attitude. Very believable."

---

Grace Barlow walked onto the arena floor, her expression one of quiet determination. Her body was relaxed, her movements fluid and deliberate. The golden light around her pulsed with a warm, radiant intensity.

Cassia Ulfric followed, her cloaked figure moving with a grace that was almost hypnotic. Her presence was commanding, almost overwhelming, her face hidden beneath the shadow of her hood. The air around her seemed to grow heavier, the ground beneath her feet trembling with her approach.

Kazimir's voice boomed through the speakers. "WILL THIS BE THE END OF OUR CINDERELLA STORY, OR WILL THE CONQUEROR CLAIM HER CROWN?!"

The crowd erupted in cheers.

The geeky kid leaned forward, his voice barely a whisper. "This is it. This is the moment."
