Chapter 7 - 7. The Game Begins

---

The flicker of monitors lit the darkness like angry eyes, each screen filled with real-time footage: cities bustling unaware, G.U.N. convoys in motion, Sonic running freely across zones. Yet, in the heart of it all, one figure stood hunched over his command console-grinning.

Dr. Ivo Robotnik-Eggman to the world-drummed his fingers rhythmically on the metal panel. The sound echoed across the cavernous control room, mixing with the hum of machines and the occasional static of a malfunctioning bot in the background.

"Project Black Pulse is nearly complete," he muttered to himself, pushing his glasses higher up the bridge of his nose. "Soon, they'll all see that this world was never meant for chaos... unless it's my chaos."

A mechanical hiss broke the silence as Orbot floated in, his voice carrying that usual blend of concern and sarcasm. "Sir, the chaos readings near Central City have spiked again. And... there's a pattern. The pulse originates from the girl-Amy Rose."

Eggman's grin sharpened. "I knew it wasn't just dumb luck she survived the first ambush. That Chaos signature in her-it's ancient. Dormant power awakened prematurely."

Cubot floated in behind Orbot, spinning in place. "You think she's like Shadow? Another... you know... weapon?"

Eggman scoffed, turning away. "No. Shadow was a calculated experiment. Amy's something else entirely. I suspect even she doesn't know what she's carrying."

He spun to the main console, pulling up a distorted image-Amy's last known appearance: her eyes glowing faintly, her body caught in a strange swirl of energy. Shadow had been nearby.

"Of course he would protect her," Eggman sneered. "The ultimate life form with a messiah complex. I should've terminated him when I had the chance."

Another screen blipped to life, showing Sonic-grinning as always-blasting through a hill zone. Eggman's eyes narrowed.

"And you... you're too late to realize what's slipping through your fingers, Blue Rat. While you were chasing rings and nostalgia, the game changed."

He walked to a large tank in the center of the room. Inside, submerged in a glowing green fluid, floated a new robotic creation-sleek, plated with red and black armor, pulsating with imitation Chaos energy.

Orbot drifted closer, hesitant. "Sir, is it wise to deploy him so soon? We haven't completed the neural stabilization."

Eggman waved him off. "Doesn't matter. I don't need perfection-I need distraction. Sonic will come, nose in the wind, thinking he can save the day. And when he does, we'll unleash a storm on his beloved friends."

Cubot tilted. "You're... not planning on kidnapping Amy again, are you?"

A low chuckle escaped the doctor's throat.

"Oh, I won't need to," Eggman replied, stepping into the shadows where mechanical limbs awaited him. "This time, she'll come to me-willingly. Because she's starting to feel it. The pull of Chaos. The pulse within her. The thing she's becoming."

He lowered himself into his control throne, metal limbs locking into place with a hiss. Red lights flickered on. The ceiling above opened to reveal a swirling storm and a ship hidden in the clouds.

"And when she does..." His eyes glinted behind his glasses. "She'll destroy everything she ever cared about. And Shadow won't stop her. Not this time."

Thunder rolled outside as Eggman's newest command ship began its descent into the sky, ready to launch. Below, within the steel fortress, thousands of robots stood at attention-silent, awaiting a command that would change everything.

The game had begun. And Eggman was finally playing with all his pieces.
