Chapter 83 - Chapter 78: The Roommate from Hell, The Abyss Realm, and The True Nature of Power

[ Location: Vivan's Bedroom ][ Date: June 8th, 1985 - Saturday Morning ]

I woke up with a taste of copper in my mouth.

My head felt crowded.

I stumbled to the bathroom mirror.

My reflection stared back. Normal face and eyes.

Then, my reflection winked.

"Good morning, landlord," the voice giggled in the back of my skull.

It sounded like scraping metal.

I groaned, splashing water on my face. "So it wasn't a dream. I really did swallow a clown."

"You didn't swallow me," Pennywise corrected, my reflection's smile stretching too wide. "You caged me. Rude. But effective. This place... your mind... it's interesting. So much... clutter."

"It's called knowledge," I muttered, drying my face. "Now shut up. I have a headache."

"You think you won?" Pennywise whispered, his tone shifting from playful to dark. "You think trapping me solves your problem? You just invited the Spider into your parlor."

I froze. "What spider? The Mind Flayer?"

"The Shadow?" Pennywise scoffed. "That smoke-cloud isn't from the Upside Down, kiddo. The Upside Down is just a reflection. A shadow cast by a much bigger fire. He comes from the Abyss."

I narrowed my eyes. "The Abyss?"

"The Space Between," Pennywise hissed. "The void where physics goes to die. The Mind Flayer is a Conqueror from the Abyss who claimed the Upside Down as a staging ground. He's just the vanguard and you... you humans... you're just destroying the boundaries."

My heart thudded.

'System. Analysis.'

[ Description: A primordial dimension of entropy. Source of all cosmic horrors. ]

[ Connection: Psionic powers are a symptom of Abyss radiation exposure. ]

"Wait," I whispered. "You mean... El? Vecna? Kali? and Other's"

"Broken's," Pennywise laughed. "Henry Creel didn't just 'get powers.' He touched the Abyss. It changed him. That's why you bleed when you use your mind. Human bodies can't handle that kind of energy. They break and they rot."

I touched my nose.

No blood.

"But you..." Pennywise sounded confused. "You don't rot. You have a... shell. A Energy core. What are you cheating."

"It's just an energy Core," I said, gripping the sink.

'So Vecna isn't just a monster. He's a guy who got sick with power and decided to become the bomb.'

[ Location: The Basement ][ Time: 10:00 AM ]

I needed to know what I was fighting.

I sat on the floor of the basement.

'Astral Projection. Boosted.'

I used the Stone of Avarice in my pocket and used some of Pennywise's energy (he yelled at me inside my head, but I ignored him).

[ Ability Active: Astral Projection (Abyss Dive). ]

My soul pulled out of my body and flew up, through the house, through the sky, and then... down.

I dove into the Russian Gate at the Mall.

I flew past the soldiers, passed the giant drill and went right through the glowing crack in the wall.

I was in the Upside Down.

Cold. Ash. Vines.

But I didn't stop.

'Deeper.'

I pushed my mind through the "floor" of the dark world.

The world cracked open.

I saw it.

The Abyss.

It wasn't black.

It was a storm of crazy colors that hurt my eyes.

Giant shapes, bigger than planets, were floating in nothingness.

And there, holding onto the Upside Down like a tick, was the Mind Flayer.

It wasn't just a cloud. In the Abyss, it was a Titan. A monster the size of a continent, made of shadow and hate. It was trying to squeeze its finger—the Shadow Monster—through a tiny keyhole into our world.

It felt me watching.

A billion eyes opened in the dark.

"LITTLE... BOY..."

The voice didn't speak but it shook my soul.

I snapped back.

"GASPP!"

I woke up on the basement floor, shivering violently.

My nose was bleeding and ears were ringing.

"See?" Pennywise giggled nervously in my head. "Big Spider Is very hungry."

"We're gonna need a bigger boat," I wheezed.

[ Location: The Community Pool - Sauna ][ Time: 2:00 PM ]

I found Billy Hargrove in the sauna room.

He was sitting on the bench, fully clothed, sweating buckets. The heater was cranked all the way up.

"You look terrible, Hargrove," I said, locking the door behind me.

Billy looked us ,his eyes were red. "It's not working, Frostwell. The heat... it helps, but he's learning. He's getting used to the burn."

"He's evolving," I said, sitting across from him. "The Mind Flayer learns fast."

"He talks to me," Billy whispered, holding his head. "He shows me things. An army. People melting into goo."

"The Flayed," I nodded. "He's building a body."

Billy looked at me, terrified. "He knows about you and knows about the Clown inside you."

I froze.

"What did he say?"

"He said..." Billy's voice changed.

It got deep and growly and his eyes flashed black. "We see the World eater and we will eat him too. The boy is ours."

It wasn't Billy speaking.

I moved fast.

'Gravity Well.'

I pinned Billy to the bench with my mind.

"Get out of his head!" I shouted.

Billy gasped and his eyes turned back to blue. "He's close, Vivan. The wall is thin. He's not just using me as a radio anymore. He's using me as an Anchor. If I die... maybe the connection breaks."

"Or maybe it gets wider, At least we are getting info through you" I said grimly. "We can't risk killing you."

"I can't hold it much longer," Billy sobbed.

"You have to," I said. "For Max."

[ Location: Leaving the Pool ][ Time: 4:00 PM ]

I walked out into the sunlight.

It felt fake. The blue sky felt like a painted ceiling hiding the monsters above.

Suddenly, the ground shook.

THUMP.

It wasn't an earthquake.

It was a heartbeat.

A huge pulse deep underground.

People stopped walking. "What was that?"

I looked at the ground.

'System. What was that?'

[ Warning: Abyss Resonance Detected. ]

[ Lore Unlocked: The Cosmic Hierarchy. ]

[ Entities Detected: The Crimson King. The Old Ones. ]

My blood ran cold.

"Crimson King? Old Ones?" I whispered. "What are they?"

Pennywise stopped laughing in my head and his mental voice trembled. "Wait, What ,Oh. Oh no. The other Kings. They are sleeping... waiting. If you kill the Spider... the noise will wake them. They won't come until the Spider falls, but when they do... there won't be any food left for me."

"Shut up," I hissed.

I looked at the horizon and storm clouds gathering over the power plant weren't normal clouds. They were swirling.

The Mind Flayer wasn't just invading.

He was holding the door.

If I defeated him, I wasn't just saving the town. I might be inviting something worse to take his place.

"I need to level up," I said, gripping my wand tight. "Right now."
