April brought an unexpected visitor to Second Course.
I was at the flagship restaurant, observing one of Jerome's advanced training sessions, when our hostess approached with an unusual message.
"There's a woman here asking for you specifically. Says her name is Vanessa. Says she met you years ago one of the Webb rescue survivors?"
I remembered her immediately. The young woman who'd thanked me at a Second Course graduation years ago, who'd been studying nursing.
"Send her back."
Vanessa had changed dramatically since I'd last seen her. Confident where she'd once been nervous. Professional in a way that spoke of accomplished purpose.
"Mrs. Moretti. Thank you for seeing me without notice."
"Of course. How are you? Last I heard, you were studying nursing."
"I finished. Working in trauma care now, actually. Emergency department at a hospital in Westchester." She paused. "But that's not why I'm here."
"What brings you here, then?"
