"It's Caroline," I said, staring at the screen in disbelief.
The room went completely silent.
Caroline Winters. The journalist who'd helped us expose Webb's trafficking operation. Who'd published the investigation that brought down Senator Reeves. Who'd become a genuine friend over years of collaboration and trust.
The architect.
"That's not possible," Dante said, but his voice carried the hollow quality of someone trying to convince himself rather than stating fact. "Caroline has been working with us. Helping us. She broke the original story"
"Which gave her perfect cover," Morrison said grimly, already pulling up additional information on her tablet. "Think about it. Every major piece of this investigation went through her first. She controlled the narrative, the timing, what information became public and when. She had access to everything we discovered."
