Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: Guess you didn't read the fine print

As more and more people left the room, the wolf began to chase after them, and Keido finally snapped out of it, chasing after the wolf as well. Heidi had fallen into the group, still in shock from the random man who saved her life and was killed almost immediately after.

The people ran through the main hall, some of them falling and, unfortunately, being caught by the Mid Tier.

With Kimsung, who had already killed the seven Low Tier wolves, having gained back seven of the mana he spent. It wasn't always the best, but getting back mana from killing monsters was something decent.

As the Mid Tier and High Tier let out low growls, circling him, he looked back and forth between them, assessing their threat—unfortunately, the effects of his skill lessened by a quarter for every rank higher than his own.

Plus, he couldn't forget the obvious, that he was facing a High Tier E-rank and a Mid Tier F-rank on his own. If it were with a group, perhaps they would win with minimal injuries. But a single person would be a death sentence. Not to mention that damned High Tier was the size of those garbage trucks he'd seen rolling through the streets earlier in the last couple of weeks, so his blade was insufficient.

If he had found something of a higher rank, perhaps it could hurt the beast. But he had only found an F-ranked sword in the armory, so it was naturally much weaker than the E-rank, despite having landed a nice, long slash on its right hind leg. The cut wasn't deep enough to hinder its movement, but the skin was torn, and that would cause its leg to lose control over time. Time he didn't have if he didn't deal with the Mid Tier quickly.

Perhaps he could… No, it wouldn't work. Trapping these two in such a short time without preparation would only put his own life in danger more than it already is.

Or maybe he could use the museum to his advantage, using the size difference between the two enemies to deal with them one at a time. His thoughts were cut short when the High Tier's attention was diverted, looking to the south. For some reason, its fur raised, and it began to growl before dashing off southwest, completely disregarding Kimsung.

His eyebrow raised in confusion, before ignoring that coincidence and returned his focus to the Mid Tier. Whatever the hell could have drawn the High Tier away was clearly something he either couldn't face or something even higher in the wolf pack's hierarchy.

He quickly charged at the bear-sized wolf, and it did the same, its maw open wide. He quickly side-stepped to the left, dodging its bite attack and stabbing into its side, reaching quite deep before his sword was unable to move further. The wolf spun its body around, causing Kimsung to lose his grip on the sword and forcing him to roll away, thankful for having his foresight.

He used it once again, seeing five seconds into the future and its next attack, a pounce with a swipe from its right paw.

Kimsung waited for it to happen, and just as his skill had shown him, the wolf did exactly as foreseen, opening itself for him to move back to the left and tear his blade out of its side, spilling its blood on the floor. He ascended the steps up to the entrance of the museum, letting it follow as he entered the museum, trapping it at the spinning doors and stabbing it in the head.

[You've slain an F-rank Mid Tier Mutated Wolf, you've gained +1 EXP]

Kimsung didn't allow himself a break and entered the museum, seeing only blood and bodies on the floor as the wolf ran loose, killing anyone in sight. Keido and Heidi are only able to barely protect themselves from it.

The wolf, after seeing Kimsung, quickly took a turn and left the museum, smashing through one of the large windows and sending hundreds of shards down to Kimsung, who attempted to catch up to it.

"Damn it!" He cursed. Normally, Kimsung was quite a quiet person when he fought. After all, wasting your breath was considered something foolish when fighting monsters that could kill you with a single well-placed strike. But now, he felt that he had to express his anger.

"Kimsung… We couldn't stop it. That wolf kept killing everyone, and my skill didn't work on it, for some reason." Keido tried to explain, but Kimsung didn't answer, only letting out a sigh. He was used to losing, to losing people, especially the times when he had left his bases only to return and find corpses of the people he cared about all over.

"You know what, it's fine. It's a shame they all died, but we can't be held up on it. We need to kill those wolves, and we can finally move on." He said, a bit annoyed, but it was an annoyance he could tolerate.

"But.. Kimsung…" Heidi tried to speak, only for Kimsung to interrupt her: "Heidi, the whole reason we came here was for Achilles, right? So let's ignore everything else and get Achilles so we can leave. Oh, and we have to kill that David guy, but that is secondary to our main goal."

He turned around and began to walk to the exit, Keido and Heidi following him, feeling sorry they couldn't do more, and that they were basically abandoning what probably remained of these survivors. But Keido believed without a doubt that what they were doing was much better for everyone else to survive until the end.
