Chapter 87 - Chapter 86: The Arrival of Qyburn

Hearing them say this, Mufasa also felt that things did not seem as simple as he had thought.

"I will go find Melisandre, and Thoros. You go find a few people who also dreamed of that deep-sea monster, and we will meet up later," Mufasa said.

He returned to The Red Keep and saw Joffrey and the others still practicing Water Dancing Swordplay.

However, the person responsible for teaching them, Syrio, was acting a bit unusual.

He seemed quite dispirited.

"What is wrong, Syrio?" Mufasa walked up and asked.

"Oh, Mufasa, it is you! I just had a nightmare! I dreamed of something terrifying!" Syrio forced a smile onto his face.

"You had a nightmare, and dreamed of something terrifying? You are the former First Sword to the Sealord of Braavos! What could possibly make you feel terrified?" Mufasa asked.

"It is an existence far more terrifying than the Titan of Braavos. It is in the deep sea, on the uninhabited ocean floor, a place where almost even the fish will not go," Syrio said.

"Oh! It seems you and many people in King's Landing have contracted the same illness: thalassophobia!" Mufasa said.

"I have heard of this illness. Many sailors in Braavos have it. Many of them were left with deep psychological trauma by things they saw while out at sea," Syrio said.

"Later, I will take Melisandre and Thoros to meet some other people suffering from this same illness. Would you like to come along and take a look?" Mufasa asked.

"Very well!" Syrio said.

He announced to Joffrey and the others that today's training session was over.

Joffrey stretched his arms and ankles, then came over to Mufasa's side.

"Syrio has been very strange lately. Has something happened to him?"

"It is nothing, he just has not slept well. He will be fine in a few days!" Mufasa said.

"By the way, someone came from Dragonstone, saying they brought a secret letter from Uncle Stannis to be given to Father alone," Joffrey said.

"Where is that person? Who is it?" Mufasa asked.

"The Onion Knight, Ser Davos Seaworth, you know him, the man who had four fingers cut off. However, The Great Council is still in the middle of a heated discussion and will not pause the meeting to see him. At the very least, we have to wait until today's session is temporarily adjourned," Joffrey said.

Mufasa nodded and immediately returned to his room. He prepared himself, brought many things along, and arrived at the door of The Great Council, where he saw The Onion Knight also waiting at the door.

Given his status, he could naturally go inside, but seeing that it was filled with nobles, lords, and knights, he retreated back out.

Mufasa walked toward him. The Onion Knight saw Mufasa coming and wanted to dodge, but was grabbed by the shoulder by Mufasa.

"Ser Davos, why have you come to King's Landing? Where is Lord Stannis?" Mufasa said.

"He is still on Dragonstone," he said.

"I heard you want to deliver a letter to King Robert? May I deliver it on your behalf?" Mufasa asked.

"No, Stannis said that I must deliver it to Robert personally and oversee him reading the letter myself."

"Is that so? Very well then! The council lasts a long time, even though they argue back and forth every day. I was going to invite you to have a drink!"

Mufasa intended to leave.

Davos's throat moved; he also felt extremely thirsty. If he could have a glass of wine right now, it would be wonderful.

"Ser Mufasa, I wonder if wine like Arbor Gold is expensive?" he asked.

"Not expensive, not expensive. When someone else is paying for the treat, how could it be expensive! Let's go, The Onion Knight!"

Mufasa brought him to a tavern and ordered two glasses of the best wine. Then, Mufasa secretly slipped some mengan drug into it.

The Onion Knight passed out just like that.

Mufasa sent him to a Brothel, paid for a lady for him, and paid the bill. Then, he found the unopened letter.

In the letter, Stannis spoke of the affair between Cersei and Jaime, said that the three children were not Robert's, and also mentioned that the death of Jon Arryn might have been the work of the Lannisters.

"It seems Stannis is still behind on information! Does he even know about the White Walkers?" Mufasa thought.

"This letter is leverage. I should burn it, but The Onion Knight will definitely notice something is wrong when he wakes up. What should I do?" Mufasa thought.

In the end, he decided to forge a letter from Stannis, put it back in the original envelope, and return it to The Onion Knight exactly as it was.

Mufasa then went to Grand Maester Pycelle, who was familiar with the handwriting and writing habits of everyone on King Robert's Small Council.

Plus, Grand Maester Pycelle was a die-hard fan of Tywin Lannister, so he would definitely help with this favor.

When Mufasa arrived at Grand Maester Pycelle's, he saw that there were other guests present.

That person was also wearing grey robes, dressed like a maester, but he did not have a chain around his neck.

"Ser Mufasa, what an honored guest! Hahaha! Quickly, bring a cup of milk tea for Ser Mufasa," Grand Maester Pycelle said to his young handmaiden.

"And who is this?" Mufasa looked at the maester who was not wearing a chain.

"Maester Qyburn, though he has been stripped of his title by The Citadel," Grand Maester Pycelle said.

"So he is Qyburn!" Mufasa realized.

"Why was Maester Qyburn stripped of his title by The Citadel?" Mufasa asked.

"I conducted some research forbidden by The Citadel, research concerning the boundary between the living and the dead," Qyburn said.

"That is indeed taboo. Not only does the Church forbid it, but the Crown also prohibits such research," Mufasa said.

"However, if I can figure out how to control the resurrection of the dead, or perhaps prevent the dead from rising, it might be helpful for the coming war," Qyburn said.

Mufasa nodded. Qyburn was right about that. He immediately checked Qyburn's stats.

"Name: Qyburn"

"Status: Commoner"

"Occupation: Former Maester"

"Strength: 9"

"Speed: 8"

"Intelligence: 48"

"Magic: 16"

"Spirit: 36"

"Talent: Seeking Heart. Seeking the truth, attempting to unravel the mysteries of the world, including many mysteries involving life and death."

"Qyburn's intelligence is even higher than Tyrion's. He is definitely a talent!" Mufasa thought.

Mufasa chatted with the two of them in Grand Maester Pycelle's tower for a long time. He mentioned thalassophobia and the matters regarding those patients.

This made Maester Qyburn very interested, and he planned to go take a look with Mufasa.

Mufasa told him to go back and prepare first, and then he would take him along.

After Qyburn left, Mufasa told Grand Maester Pycelle about wanting him to forge a letter in Stannis's handwriting.

"Is this Lord Tywin's will?" Pycelle asked.

Mufasa nodded and then said.

"Naturally. Just write that Stannis says he has discovered some lost treasure somewhere in the deep sea, and he is going to lead the royal fleet to hunt for the treasure. He will not be returning to the continent of Westeros for some time."
