Joffrey's voice carried a sickly gentleness, but the hand squeezing Cersei's neck kept tightening.
Cersei's face was already flushed crimson.
She clawed uselessly at Joffrey's wrist, her nails leaving bloody scratches.
Her vision began to darken. She wouldn't last much longer.
At that moment.
"Creak—"
The heavy wooden door of the Small Council Chamber was pushed open from the outside.
A figure stood silently, backlit by the light from the corridor outside.
Joffrey's choking motion on Cersei's neck abruptly halted.
He slowly turned his head to look at the doorway.
When he saw the face of the newcomer, a flicker of panic surfaced in his mad blue eyes.
It was Lynn.
Hadn't he already left?
How could he be back?!
Lynn looked at the absurd scene in the room, no extra expression on his face.
He stood quietly, his gaze sweeping over Joffrey, finally landing on the nearly strangled woman in his hand.
"You..."
Joffrey instinctively loosened his grip.
"Cough... cough cough cough!"
Cersei clutched her own neck with both hands, coughing desperately, greedily breathing in every precious mouthful of air.
She gasped for breath, tears and saliva mixing together, a wretched sight.
Joffrey looked at Lynn, then at his mother reviving on the floor, his mind in complete chaos.
He had been caught.
He had been caught red-handed by the man he revered and feared the most, while trying to kill his own mother.
"Lord Lynn... I..."
Joffrey opened his mouth, wanting to explain something.
But he found he couldn't explain anything.
Lynn slowly closed the door, plunging the room into dimness once more.
He walked towards Joffrey step by step.
Each step felt like it was treading on Joffrey's heart.
Lynn stopped before him. His height, a head taller, brought a powerful sense of oppression.
"You wanted to kill her?"
Lynn gestured with his chin towards Cersei, who was still gasping violently on the floor.
"She deserves to die!"
Joffrey was like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, instantly bristling.
"She betrayed my father! She betrayed me!"
"She's a vicious woman! She's a whore!"
"She's not fit to be my mother at all!"
"So you killed her?"
Lynn's voice was very calm, so calm it made Joffrey feel a wave of panic.
"I... I..."
Joffrey was at a loss for words.
He didn't know how to answer.
"No matter how vicious, how despicable she is, she is still your mother."
"She is the Queen Mother of the Seven Kingdoms."
"You, the King of the Seven Kingdoms, in the Small Council Chamber, killed your own mother with your own hands."
Lynn looked at Joffrey's face, twisted with panic, and continued.
"How do you think the nobles of Westeros will view you once this news gets out?"
"A mother-killing tyrant?"
"Will your uncles, Stannis and Renly, let this opportunity pass?"
"They will raise the banner of avenging your mother and march all the way from Storm's End and Dragonstone to the gates of King's Landing."
"Your grandfather, Tywin Lannister, what will he do?"
Each of Lynn's words was like a heavy hammer, smashing down on Joffrey's fragile nerves.
Joffrey's face visibly paled.
He thought of it.
He thought of it all.
If he had really killed Cersei today, then his reign as king would be over.
He would become the enemy of the entire Seven Kingdoms.
Everyone would despise him, crusade against him.
He had only just broken free from Tywin's shadow, had only just begun to feel like a real king.
He couldn't lose all this!
Absolutely not!
"You think killing her will keep your secret safe?"
Lynn's next words completely shattered Joffrey's psychological defenses.
Joffrey's body swayed violently, almost losing his balance.
The secret!
He knew!
Lynn knew his biggest secret!
A massive wave of fear instantly drowned him.
He felt his hands and feet go cold, even his breathing became difficult.
With a THUMP, Joffrey's legs gave way, and he actually knelt directly before Lynn.
He grabbed Lynn's trouser leg.
"Lord Lynn... I... I beg you..."
He looked up, his blue eyes filled with pleading and terror, tears uncontrollably welling up.
"Don't tell... please, I beg you, don't ever tell..."
"As long as you don't tell, I'll do anything you ask!"
"The position of Hand of the King is yours! The entire kingdom is yours!"
"I'll listen to you in everything!"
"I only beg you to let me continue being king!"
"Please!"
He cried.
This madman who had just tried to kill his own mother with his bare hands now knelt on the floor, wailing like a helpless child.
Cersei leaned against the wall, staring blankly at this scene.
Her son, the King of the Seven Kingdoms, was kneeling before another man, begging like a dog.
What irony.
Lynn looked down, gazing at the king who had completely collapsed at his feet.
"Get up."
Lynn's voice remained calm.
Joffrey didn't dare disobey. He hurriedly scrambled up from the floor, standing before Lynn like a child who had done wrong, head bowed, not even daring to breathe heavily.
"Remember, a king does not kneel."
Lynn looked at him and said lightly.
"Yes... yes..."
Joffrey nodded frantically.
"Your secret, I will not tell."
Lynn's words sounded like heavenly music to Joffrey's ears.
He looked up at Lynn, disbelief in his eyes.
"Because once this secret is exposed, it benefits neither you nor me."
Lynn continued.
"A king of impure bloodline would plunge the entire kingdom into chaos."
"Everyone needs a stable kingdom."
"Thank you... thank you!"
Joffrey was overwhelmed with gratitude, he even wanted to kneel again.
Lynn's gaze stopped him.
"I'm helping you, but there are conditions."
"Name them! Name them! I'll agree to any condition!"
Joffrey quickly declared.
Lynn's gaze fell on Cersei in the corner.
Cersei shuddered.
"Her."
Lynn pointed at Cersei.
"She can no longer stay in the Red Keep."
Joffrey's face immediately showed undisguised disgust.
"Right! Let her get out! I never want to see this vicious woman again!"
He pointed at Cersei and said to Lynn.
"Lord Lynn, you take her away!"
"Take her anywhere! The North, Essos, even a brothel! Just make her disappear from my sight!"
"I don't want to see her for another second!"
Cersei's heart sank to the depths.
Her son wanted to give her away to another man like a piece of trash, even send her to a brothel?
What filial piety.
Lynn looked at Joffrey, then at Cersei, whose face was ashen, the corner of his mouth curling into a knowing smirk.
He walked up to Cersei and extended his hand.
"Come, Queen Mother Cersei."
"It seems your son doesn't want you anymore."
His voice carried a hint of amusement.
Cersei looked at the hand extended before her, then at Lynn's handsome yet fear-inspiring face.
She had no choice.
She placed her hand in Lynn's palm.
Lynn's hand was strong and warm.
With a gentle pull, he lifted Cersei from the floor.
"From today, you will live with me and do some 'within your power' tasks for me."
Lynn led Cersei towards the door, lowering his voice as he spoke.
"I saved your life. Have you thought about how to repay me, Queen Mother Cersei?"
Cersei did not resist.
She was like a puppet, letting Lynn lead her.
When they reached the door, Lynn stopped and looked back at Joffrey, still standing dumbfounded in place.
"Oh, clean this up."
Lynn's gaze swept over Pycelle's corpse on the floor.
"Seal the news. Announce publicly that the Grand Maester, old and frail, succumbed to a sudden, severe illness and died."
"Yes! Yes! I understand!"
Joffrey hurriedly nodded.
Lynn said nothing more.
He opened the door and, with Cersei, disappeared into the corridor outside.
In the Small Council Chamber, only Joffrey remained, amidst the mess on the floor.
He looked at the blood everywhere and the mangled corpse, remembering everything that had just happened.
He felt nauseous.
But he knew he was safe for now.
As long as Lynn didn't tell, he would always be the King of the Seven Kingdoms.
And he had also completely become Lynn's dog.
But did he really want to be a dog?
