The queen he was so proud of was another man's spy.

The throne he clung to was built on a lie.

And he himself, king of the Seven Kingdoms, had become a man who couldn't control his own body, a slave who could be humiliated whenever someone felt like it.

Humiliation. Fury. Helpless, gnawing rage.

He wanted to die.

Right now, he only wanted to die.

Joffrey hauled himself off the floor and staggered toward the wall, where a decorative longsword hung gleaming in its mount.

He would pull it free.

He would open his own throat.

He would rather die than be Lynn's dog.

His hand closed around the cold hilt.

One hard pull was all it would take.

His hand froze.

That foreign force surged back, flooding every corner of his body in an instant, seizing it completely.

"Want to die?"

Lynn's voice, laced with quiet amusement, sounded directly inside his skull.

"Did I allow it?"

Joffrey's body began to shake.

He couldn't even choose death. That right had been taken from him too.

His fingers released the hilt on their own.

His body turned around on its own.

His legs carried him forward on their own, step by step, toward the side door of the bedchamber.

"No. No, don't—"

He was screaming inside his own head.

He didn't know what Lynn intended to do with his body. But he knew it would be worse than dying. Far worse.

"Where are you taking me? Where?!"

"Be quiet."

Lynn's voice was perfectly calm.

"I'm taking you to a show."

"One prepared just for you."

"Unless I'm wrong, the puppy my wife Myrcella kept at Casterly Rock, that was you, wasn't it."

"A vicious little animal like you deserves everything that's coming."

His body walked him out of his own bedchamber.

Down a dim corridor. To a stop in front of a closed door.

Right next to his room.

"Stay still."

The command dropped into his mind.

His body stiffened, turned, pressed his back flat against the wall, and knelt. An invisible force pushed his head sideways until his ear was flush with the stone.

"Aren't you curious how I plan to treat your beloved Queen Liana?"

"For her husband in name, you've been rather neglectful."

"No! I won't listen! I won't—"

He thrashed against the control. It was pointless. He was a gecko pinned to the wall. He couldn't move a single finger.

Then it came.

Sound from the room next door.

A woman's voice.

Liana's voice.

"Mmm... ah..."

A stifled, pained sound bled through the stone and settled directly into his ears.

Joffrey went rigid.

"What did you do to her! Lynn! You animal!"

He raged inside himself, and it went nowhere.

"Shh."

Lynn's voice was smiling now.

"The show's just getting started."

"The night is long. Pay attention."

Next door, Liana's voice began to climb.

"Ah... Lord Lynn..."

"...so good..."

"...I... I can't..."

"...I can't take any more..."

That name.

His most hated name, spilling from his queen's lips in a wanton, breathless tone he'd only ever imagined in fever dreams, called out again and again and again.

BOOM!

It felt like ten thousand warhammers shattering his skull at once.

He wanted to cover his ears.

He wanted to squeeze his eyes shut.

He wanted to run.

He couldn't do any of it.

He could only kneel here, pressed against this wall, listening to his queen lose herself with another man on the other side of the stone, forced to hear every sound, every shameless plea, every fawning syllable, without missing a single word.

"Well, Your Majesty?"

"Does your queen have a pleasant voice?"

"AAAAAHHH!"

The scream existed only in his own head. Nothing escaped his mouth.

He felt it happening, the thing he'd feared most. The humiliation was going to break him. Not kill him. Break him.

This was ten thousand times worse than being made to slap himself.

"I'll kill you. I will kill you."

"Oh?"

Lynn's tone was pure mockery.

"With what? Your kingly dignity? How much of that is left?"

"Or are you going to get on your knees and beg me to stop?"

"...please..."

The last wall inside Joffrey crumbled.

"...please, let me go..."

He was begging. Like the most wretched dog alive.

"Let you go?"

Lynn laughed.

"Why would I do that?"

"A proper king doesn't need thoughts of his own."

"All that clutter in your head, the anger, the jealousy, the hatred. There's too much of it."

"I'm going to help you clean it out."

"When the only things left in there are fear and obedience, you'll finally be a useful tool."

"So listen."

"Carve these sounds into your bones. Carve them into your soul."

"Let them become your new breath. Your new heartbeat."

"Every time the word 'rebellion' crosses your mind, this is what you'll hear."

Next door, the sounds rose. Liana's voice grew wild, frantic, unhinged.

"Lord Lynn! I love you!"

"Give me more, give me everything—"

"I'm yours! Only yours! No one else's!"

The screams felt like they could split the roof of the Red Keep open.

Then silence.

Joffrey was still kneeling against the wall, pressed in that same position.

His body shook violently, beyond all control.

His eyes were stretched wide, the whites threaded through with burst veins, and not a single tear would come.

His mouth hung slightly open, drool trailing unnoticed from the corner of his lip.

Only Liana's voice kept ringing. Ringing. Ringing through the hollow space where his mind used to be.

He had no idea how much time passed.

Lynn's voice finally returned.

"Right. That's enough for one session. Exhausting work."

"How are you feeling, my king?"

"Refreshed?"

Joffrey gave no response.

He was a puppet with its strings cut. Whatever had been his soul had already drifted somewhere far away.

"Good results," Lynn said, mostly to himself. "Go get some rest."

His body was seized again. He turned stiffly and walked back toward his bedchamber.

Each step felt like walking through fog.

He drifted back into the wreckage of his room and was steered to the copper mirror.

A face stared back from the polished surface.

Dull. Empty. Slack.

His own face, still swollen and red where his own hands had struck it. His blue eyes, dead as glass.

"Look at yourself."

Lynn's voice settled into his mind, quiet and unhurried.

"Remember what you look like tonight."

"From now on, every time you stand before a mirror, I'll make sure you remember every sound you heard."

"Your body is yours again."

"Take a bath. Get dressed."

"Westeros still needs its wise and mighty king to preside over the small council."
