Chapter 74 - Alignment

The white space did not collapse this time.

It held.

Not completely stable—

but no longer breaking.

Cain stood where he was.

But something had changed.

The pressure was gone.

The disorientation had faded.

What remained—

was awareness.

"…You're stabilizing."

Elios' voice came without delay.

Cain looked at him.

"…It doesn't feel stable."

"No."

A small pause.

"But it is no longer rejecting you."

That distinction mattered.

Cain's gaze sharpened slightly.

"…So it accepted me."

Elios didn't agree.

"It aligned with you."

The same word again.

But this time—

it made more sense.

"…Then what exactly triggers it?"

Elios answered immediately.

"State."

Not helpful.

Not yet.

"…Explain."

A faint shift passed through the space.

"It does not respond to commands."

A pause.

"It does not respond to intent."

Another.

"It responds to condition."

Cain listened.

"When your body, mind, and state match its nature…"

A slight pause.

"…it moves."

The explanation was simple.

But heavy.

"…So it's not something I activate."

"No."

"…Then what was the dungeon?"

A brief silence.

Elios' gaze lowered slightly.

"Instability."

Another pause.

"Near collapse."

That lined up.

"…And now?"

Elios looked directly at him.

"Closer."

Not comforting.

Not vague.

Just truth.

Cain exhaled slowly.

"…And if I push it further?"

Elios didn't hesitate.

"You will not return the same."

The words settled heavily.

Cain didn't react outwardly.

But he understood.

"…Then I need limits."

"No."

Immediate.

Clear.

"You don't have limits."

That was worse.

"You have tolerance."

A faint shift in the space.

"And it decreases."

Silence.

"…So the more I use it—"

"The less you remain intact."

Elios finished it.

Cain's gaze didn't waver.

"…Then why didn't it spiral just now?"

A brief pause.

"Because it is incomplete."

That again.

"But not static."

The space flickered faintly.

"It changes."

A pause.

"And it is already changing."

Cain's eyes narrowed slightly.

"…Because of me."

Elios didn't confirm directly.

"It is no longer what it was."

That was enough.

"…Then it can evolve."

"Yes."

No hesitation.

"…Into what?"

For the first time—

Elios didn't answer immediately.

Then—

"That depends on you."

Not comforting.

But honest.

Cain processed that quietly.

"…So I already changed it once."

Elios didn't deny it.

"What you did in the dungeon…"

A faint shift.

"…was not the same as this."

Another pause.

"And it will not be the same again."

The pattern was clear now.

Nothing about it stayed fixed.

"…Then I observe it."

Cain spoke it himself this time.

Elios gave a small nod.

"You endure it."

A pause.

"And you do not force it blindly."

The white space trembled slightly.

Outside—

Rei hadn't moved.

"…This is taking too long."

Aera shook her head slightly.

"…Don't."

Her voice was tight now.

"…Something's still happening."

Her eyes were fixed on Cain.

"…I can feel it."

The air hadn't gotten heavier.

But it hadn't returned to normal either.

It stayed—

suspended.

Liora stood closest.

Watching.

Not the mist.

Not the distortion.

Cain.

"…He's not deteriorating."

Rei glanced at her.

"…That supposed to be a good thing?"

"…It means it's stabilizing."

That didn't sound reassuring.

The cat remained on Cain's shoulder.

Still.

Its eyes glowed faintly.

Brighter than before.

As if reacting to something unseen.

Inside—

The white space shifted again.

"…Your time here is ending."

Elios spoke without hesitation.

Cain looked at him.

"…Then one last thing."

The man waited.

"…If I face it again—"

A pause.

"What should I do?"

Elios stepped closer.

Not imposing.

Not threatening.

Just present.

"You don't fight it."

A faint pause.

"You don't suppress it."

Another.

"And you don't rely on it."

The space trembled.

"…Then what?"

Elios' gaze remained steady.

"You meet it."

The words settled deeper than anything else.

The white space began to fracture.

This time—

not violently.

Controlled.

Cain didn't move.

He didn't resist.

He didn't question it.

"…It responded."

The thought formed naturally.

Not fear.

Not confusion.

Understanding.

Darkness closed in.

Outside—

Cain's fingers twitched.

Just once.

The mist around him flickered.

Then steadied again.

Rei's eyes widened slightly.

"…Did you see that?"

Aera stepped forward.

"…He moved."

Liora didn't speak.

But her gaze sharpened.

"…He's coming back."

End.
