Lydia watched the descending floor numbers for several seconds before speaking.
"Are we really returning to the Empyrean Dining Hall?"
Her fingers tightened around the strap of her bag. "Last time we were there…"
Phei understood.
The Empyrean Dining Hall still carried Marcus Heavenchild's arrogance, the pressure of the Legacy families, and the memory of a morning that had twisted into humiliation and violence. Grandeur offered little comfort when trauma had already learned the architecture.
Phei gave Lydia a reassuring smile.
"Marcus will not trouble us today."
"He could still return."
"He was dragged out of the hotel by the collar and sent home last time on the day of the interview."
Maddie grinned. "A healing image."
Amber added, "It deserves a painting."
Lydia's mouth twitched, though unease remained behind her eyes.
Phei softened his voice. "Marcus cannot be foolish enough to return immediately."
