Chapter 92 - Chapter 92: Jiang Chen, I Want to Command You in a Different Position!

Chapter 92: Jiang Chen, I Want to Command You in a Different Position!

Tang Wulin finished his forging in the adult division first, yet Jiang Chen didn't bother waiting for him.

He simply returned to the hotel for some rest. At lunch, Wu Zhangkong brought up something new.

"This afternoon, there's a spirit-soul battle competition," he said. "Anyone interested in joining?"

"Spirit-soul battle? What's that?" Tang Wulin asked blankly.

Having always buried himself in cultivation and forging, he knew little of federation events. Mu Chen had never taught him about such things—believing that his pure-hearted disciple only needed to focus on his craft. The world outside would be handled by others—like his senior brother, who'd already risen to Divine Craftsman status.

Mu Xi smiled and explained, "It's a tournament for spirit transmitters—humans commanding spirit souls in combat, like the arena duels we saw at the Spirit Pagoda."

Unlike scholastic tests, the spirit-soul competition was meant for entertainment. It didn't count as an academic score. Hosted by the Spirit Pagoda, its prize rewards were notably generous.

However, it only allowed participants to use thousand-year or lower spirit souls.

Anything stronger would make the battles too unfair. A ten-thousand-year spirit could flatten opponents without effort, but a thousand-year one kept it balanced and exciting—where even a dog could, hypothetically, defeat a lesser dragon.

That was what made it so popular.

Though not officially recognized by the Federation yet, the idea of humans commanding spirit souls had captivated the masses.

After all, many people could not awaken martial souls. Yet through spirit orbs and contracted souls—they too could summon allies to fight. For ordinary citizens, this was their taste of power.

It had become one of the most beloved spectator sports in the entire Federation.

Mu Xi pouted. "My Sun Bird is a ten-thousand-year spirit, so I can't join. And contracted souls already bound to spirit masters can't participate. Otherwise, I'd totally go—I am Eastsea's top transmitter for a reason!"

Her pride drew a smirk from Jiang Chen.

Suddenly, a wicked idea sparked. What if… Gu Yue entered as my spirit soul?

Imagine it: he throws her onto the battlefield—"Go, Silver Dragon King!"

Then he shouts, "Super evolution time!"

The image alone nearly made him laugh.

Grinning, he leaned in close to whisper in Gu Yue's ear. "You know, you keep saying you want to become the Spirit Pagoda's Master, right? You want fame? Then let's enter the spirit-soul tournament. Win it, and you'll be a public sensation."

Gu Yue's eyes darkened immediately. Her teeth clenched—and stomp! She crushed his foot under hers.

He winced. Well, I had that coming.

Apparently, even teasing her verbally wasn't enough—he had somehow earned a full-on physical punishment. Wasn't petting her as a dragon bad enough? Now she wanted to "change positions"?

She was furious, about to launch into one of her routine daily outbursts—when she suddenly froze.

Wait. Spirit-soul tournament?

Hadn't he once been a spirit soul himself?

Her gaze slid slowly over Jiang Chen, scanning him from head to toe.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" he said, hairs standing on end.

"How about this," Gu Yue said softly. "I'll be the spirit transmitter—and you, my spirit soul. The championship reward will be yours. How about it?"

Jiang Chen blinked. "Absolutely not!"

If he summoned a soul to fight for him, fine. But if he had to be the summoned creature? That was humiliating.

A million-year spirit soul, reduced to a gimmick? Unacceptable.

But Gu Yue stood up anyway.

He backpedaled instantly, hands raised defensively. "Hey—what are you doing?"

"Come with me," she said coldly. "We have things to discuss."

That tone guaranteed nothing good.

Jiang Chen shook his head stubbornly. "Not going."

A dangerous glint flashed in her violet eyes. In the next moment, she grabbed his wrist. "I said, come with me."

Before he could answer, a pale hand landed gently on Gu Yue's shoulder.

"He's not going," the Snow Empress said calmly.

The air between the two women shifted.

They locked eyes. The room's atmosphere grew thick with silent tension.

Jiang Chen broke into a cold sweat.

"Actually! I'll go! I—uh—I need the restroom first!"

And with that, he bolted like lightning.

No one mentioned the spirit-soul tournament again afterward. The competition wasn't officially recognized anyway, still being tested by the Spirit Pagoda. Real soul masters cared more about their own strength.

That afternoon's team battles—the main seven-versus-seven and three-versus-three events—were up next.

The arenas were much larger than in solo matches. Three‑team arenas were fifty meters wide, while the seven‑team battles were even grander.

Though officially part of the score, the three‑man matches drew little interest. Elite academies preferred fielding full seven‑member squads. Only smaller schools lacking numbers opted for three‑member teams.

Naturally, such teams were far weaker.

Jiang Chen, Snow Empress, and Gu Yue's opponents were from one such small academy: three teenage boys around fourteen or fifteen.

Right at the age limit for the youth division.

Seeing how young their challengers looked, they couldn't help smiling confidently.

Three or four extra years of cultivation made a world of difference—right?

Jiang Chen yawned, totally unmoved. "Gu Yue, you wanted fame, right? I'll leave the rest to you."

Honestly, he kind of regretted entering the competition at all. Beating up kids wasn't satisfying.

There was no excitement—no thrill. What was he supposed to do, show off to a bunch of middle schoolers? He had some pride.

Gu Yue didn't answer—she simply raised her hand.

Four soul rings rose around her feet—yellow, yellow, purple, purple—radiating dazzling light.

The crowd gasped.

A ten-year-old… Soul Ancestor?

Their opponents froze mid-smile.

"Wait—what?"

"She's younger and stronger?"

Even the spectators sucked in sharp breaths.

At around ten years old, she was already a four-ring Soul Master?

Impossible!

Not even endless medicine baths or divine bloodlines should allow a child to surpass adult Soul Experts so easily!

The referee hesitated for an instant before raising his flag.

"Five… four… three… two… one—match start!"

Gu Yue moved immediately.

A fiery orb appeared in her palm—then shot forward like a meteor.

The three boys barely had time to release their martial souls before the attack hit.

Twin yellow rings flared briefly—then vanished into ash.

One explosion later, all three were sprawled in the dirt.

"Stop!" the referee shouted, his composure barely intact. He had to remind himself not to gape.

One attack. That was all it took.

From bell to victory—less than a minute.

As Gu Yue quietly retracted her soul rings and walked off the stage, the stadium finally erupted in an uproar.

"Ten years old?! A Soul Ancestor?!"

"Monstrous! Absolutely monstrous!"

"When did Eastsea Academy get so terrifying?"

And what's worse—there wasn't just one like her.

There were three.

Three ten-year-old Soul Ancestors—all from Eastsea.
