Chapter 144 - Chapter 144: Don’t Need a Master? That’s Wonderful!

Chapter 144: Don't Need a Master? That's Wonderful!

At that moment, the Dragon-Slaying Blade in Sima Jinchi's hand suddenly lunged toward Tang Wulin.

But this time, the sensation wasn't one of imminent death. Instead, an oddly familiar warmth washed over Tang Wulin—a feeling that drew him closer rather than pushing him away.

"With my horn, I forged the Blade of Judgment!

Let it purge every accursed dragon, let it strike down every injustice!

The Dragon God's law, forged in holy edge—let heaven and earth witness its birth!"

In the void above, a colossal, nine-colored dragon appeared.

Its left eye blazed gold; its right glimmered with the light of stars.

Across the entire world, echoing dragon roars resonated in reverence toward that divine presence.

"What… what is this?"

Even Tang Wulin, despite carrying dragon blood himself, felt compelled to kneel.

The nine-colored dragon's form shifted—becoming a man wrapped in radiant robes of every hue. His face remained hidden, but the weight of his gaze cut straight into Tang Wulin's soul.

"Th–that's… the Dragon God?"

The realization made his heart tremble.

As the apparition faded, it merged entirely into the Dragon-Slaying Blade.

Sima Jinchi's body flared with golden light, the sound of a dragon's roar erupting from deep within him. Dragon markings crawled across his arms, glowing one after another—

Black, black, black, black, black, black, black, black… and finally, gold.

Eight black soul rings blazed brilliantly, but the ninth—radiant and golden—outshone them all.

In that instant, Sima Jinchi ascended, stepping into the rank of a Titled Douluo.

Every single one of those nine rings pulsed with the strength of a million years.

The blade etched with dragon runes melted back into his grasp. Golden hair shimmered, vertical pupils contracting as complex layers of emotion crossed his face.

Then, he moved—kneeling suddenly before Tang Wulin.

"Your subordinate, Sima Jinchi, manifestation of the Dragon-Slaying Blade—pays respects to the Lord!"

Tang Wulin: "???"

He jumped back in fright. "Instructor, what are you doing?!"

A Titled Douluo kneeling before him—it was completely absurd!

His head buzzed, unable to process the surreal scene.

Sima Jinchi had always known he wasn't born human. Di Tian had told him since birth that he was a weapon—a divine artifact incarnate, the Dragon-Slaying Blade.

The judge of dragons.

The scourge of evil.

The blade that destroyed injustice.

But until today, his memories as a weapon had never awakened.

Then the Dragon God's projection had appeared.

And with it, fragments of those memories returned.

Before, he might have accepted Di Tian's words at face value, but deep down, he'd still thought himself human—just an unusual kind of soul master.

His power had always been unnatural: every time he leveled up, his soul rings appeared automatically, without the need for hunting beasts or spirits.

Now everything made sense.

He wasn't human. He truly was the Dragon-Slaying Blade.

And the being before him—Tang Wulin—bore the bloodline of the Golden Dragon King, one half of the fallen Dragon God.

Even if Tang Wulin didn't understand it, the dragon's essence within him recognized that authority.

The title Lord wasn't flattery—it was instinct.

Tang Wulin, however, was utterly baffled. Was this all tied to the vision of the Dragon God just now?

Old Tang had told him his body housed the Golden Dragon King—but never about dragon gods or divine wars.

And now, a Titled Douluo was kneeling to him as if he were some reborn deity?

"N-no! Please, Instructor, you don't need to call me that. I'm just an ordinary person!"

"Very well!" Sima Jinchi said briskly.

To Tang Wulin's shock, he straightened and exhaled as if relieved of a great burden.

If his "Lord" didn't want acknowledgment, then he didn't need to obey. That made things easier!

After all, who'd dare blame him if the Dragon God's will appeared again? Certainly not him!

Instantly, his demeanor returned to professional calm.

"Student Tang Wulin, at ease! About face! Double-time march!"

Tang Wulin: "???"

He wanted to cry. I didn't mean it literally!

The expression on his face was pure agony—like someone who had just thrown away a winning lottery ticket.

Meanwhile, Sima Jinchi's head cleared. The reality settled in.

He was Di Tian's disciple, yes. A weapon given life. The embodiment of dragon judgment.

But unless the true Dragon God himself stood before him, he owed no submission.

And Tang Wulin—even with the Golden Dragon's power—was still a human, not a dragon.

Di Tian, however, remained the sovereign of dragons.

There was no need to kneel to a mortal.

Even so, the awakening of his ancient memories left him shaken.

He remembered then—what the Dragon Clan had been.

Long ago, the Dragon God reigned supreme. Not even the Five Great God Kings of the Divine Realm could match his might.

Under him served nine Dragon Kings, each a god-king in their own right.

Then came ruin—civil war, betrayal, and slaughter.

One by one, the Dragon Kings rebelled.

The Dragon God fell, slain by the Shura God.

Yet even death could not erase his essence. His divine core split in two—forming the Golden Dragon King and Silver Dragon King.

Before his final breath, he hurled the Law Blade of Dragons down to the mortal world.

And from that blade… Sima Jinchi had been born.

Tang Wulin blinked, utterly lost.

So… he'd just missed his chance to keep a divine weapon as a loyal servant?

What's worse, all the "blessing" from the Dragon God's illusion seemed to have gone entirely to Sima Jinchi!

He didn't get so much as a spark of it!

"Dragon God, what's the deal? You don't even count me as a dragon?"

Then again… maybe that was a good thing.

After all, if the Dragon God ever discovered his two children—one half now merged with a human body and the other plotting to destroy mankind—he'd probably just smite them both out of spite.

The more Tang Wulin thought about it, the more relieved he felt.

Maybe not being "blessed" was for the best.

"So?" Xie Xie asked later, approaching with a grin. "What did Instructor want? Rewarding you for soloing that Poison Dragon Beast?"

Tang Wulin just sighed. "No…"

The only "reward" he'd received was getting rejected by a Titled Douluo servant he didn't even realize he wanted.

The more he thought about it, the more depressed he felt.

Even Xie Xie eventually gave up, throwing his hands up. "Fine, fine! You're impossible!"

Meanwhile, far away, Gu Yue appeared silently behind Sima Jinchi.

His entire body stiffened the instant he sensed her aura. His soul rings flared in panic.

"Who's there?! Show yourself!"

Her black hair shimmered into silver. Her ordinary eyes turned luminous violet.

The faint smile at the corner of her lips sent chills down his spine.

"Dragon-Slaying Blade, is it?" she purred.

Sima Jinchi trembled violently.

"M-Master…?"

Di Tian had never told him who their true master was. None of the beast kings knew.

After the Silver Dragon King's rebirth, she had hidden deep beneath the lake of the Star Dou Great Forest, unseen by all.

They only knew she existed—a supreme ruler the beasts called "Master."

Even Di Tian had believed she was still healing, preparing for their rise and revenge against the Divine Realm.

But now—
