Chapter 113: The Tragic Fate of Yun Leng
"Lan Dou Sister, why are you here?" Soul Xin's eyes lit up as she spotted the beautiful flat chested woman.
However, the young woman ignored her and kept walking.
"Lan Dou Sister, Lan Dou Sister!" Seeing the woman not responding, Soul Xin scampered over and hugged her leg tightly.
"Hm?" Nalan Yanran frowned slightly and looked down at the little girl at her feet, surprised she hadn't noticed her before.
"Oh, it's you, Soul Xin." Nalan Yanran smiled at the little girl. She had a soft spot for adorable children like this one.
"Lan Dou Sister, why are you here?" Soul Xin asked, blinking her big round eyes.
"Lan Dou?" Nalan Yanran was momentarily puzzled but quickly realized the little girl was mispronouncing her name.
"Little one, my name isn't Lan Dou. You should call me Sister Nalan. Got it?" Nalan Yanran patiently corrected her.
"Okay, Lan Dou Sister. Do you have more of the candy you brought last time?" Soul Xin asked, her small face brimming with expectation.
"I do, I do." Nalan Yanran had met Soul Xin a few times before and knew this slightly dim witted girl had a huge sweet tooth.
She casually took out a small bag from her storage ring, filled with candies and candied fruit.
"Here, they're all yours." Nalan Yanran handed the bag to her and patted her head with a smile.
"Thank you, Lan Dou Sister!" Soul Xin beamed sweetly.
"It's Nalan, Nalan. Do you understand?"
"Got it, Lan Dou Sister."
Nalan Yanran's pretty face turned dark.
"If you call me that again, I won't bring you candy next time."
"Why? Don't you like me anymore, Sister Nalan?" Soul Xin's face turned pitiful and teary.
"This child isn't as simple as she looks," Nalan Yanran thought, feeling momentarily speechless.
Moments later, Nalan Yanran walked into the courtyard and saw Xiao Yan sitting calmly in a pavilion. For once, he wasn't surrounded by women.
At the moment, Xiao Yan was focused on his cultivation. Streams of Dou Qi energy were so dense they seemed almost tangible, flowing like white mist as he inhaled and exhaled.
"His cultivation speed..." Nalan Yanran was once again astonished.
Having trained with Yun Yun for years, she understood the difficulty of advancing at higher levels. Yet Xiao Yan's progress defied common sense. At this rate, he could advance again in less than two months.
And this time, he wasn't relying on Heavenly Flames or dual cultivation; he was simply using the most basic cultivation techniques. Yet his progress was as rapid as a rocket.
Ordinary Dou Huang cultivators might take decades to advance a single star, but Xiao Yan seemed to do it effortlessly.
For the first time, Nalan Yanran admitted defeat without any excuses.
Thinking back to her bold declarations under the setting sun that day, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
"It's like my words back then were nothing but nonsense," she thought, lowering her head in shame. She suddenly recalled Xiao Yan's teasing words: "Dual cultivation with me will speed up your training."
"Damn it, why am I thinking about something so shameless?" Nalan Yanran mentally berated herself, wishing she could slap her own face.
"Master!" Soul Xin suddenly shouted, charging at Xiao Yan like a small tank.
A long hand pressed against her little head, stopping her in her tracks no matter how much she struggled.
"Go wipe the oil off your face," Xiao Yan said disdainfully.
Soul Xin casually wiped her face with her sleeve and then pulled out a greasy, blackened chicken leg from her pocket.
"I brought this chicken leg back from Sister Yao Ye for you," Soul Xin said earnestly.
"You can keep it for yourself," Xiao Yan replied with a half smile.
"No! You eat it! You eat it!"
Xiao Yan ignored her and turned his attention to Nalan Yanran.
"Yanran, you're here."
"Brother Xiao Yan," Nalan Yanran greeted softly. "The sect sent me to invite you to a banquet."
"Sure," Xiao Yan replied with a faint smile.
"Let's go," he said as he moved closer to her.
"What are you doing?" Nalan Yanran asked, stepping back.
"Aren't we going to the Yun Lan Sect? Are you planning to walk back?" Xiao Yan asked, puzzled.
"Walking isn't impossible..." Nalan Yanran murmured.
"That'll take too long. I might as well not go," Xiao Yan said with a shrug.
"You!" Nalan Yanran fumed. If Xiao Yan didn't come, all the preparations the sect made would be wasted. Returning empty handed would only invite disappointed looks from everyone.
"Well?" Xiao Yan opened his arms.
After hesitating for a moment, Nalan Yanran reluctantly stepped forward and wrapped her arms around his waist.
"You... don't pull the same stunt as last time," she warned, blushing. Xiao Yan's scent was making her dizzy again.
"What do you mean? Yanran, I'm a gentleman. Don't think of me as some scoundrel," Xiao Yan said righteously, wrapping an arm around her slender waist as his Dou Qi wings unfurled.
Boom!
As they lifted off the ground, Nalan Yanran instinctively clung to him tighter, but she felt something touch her behind.
"Your face doesn't look too good. Are you feeling unwell?" Xiao Yan asked, feigning concern.
"...Sigh." Nalan Yanran let out a long breath and said nothing.
In the Yun Lan Sect's Elder Hall, Yun Leng lay in bed, his face full of excitement as he spoke to the elderly Yun Shan.
"Old Sect Master, you've broken through to Dou Zong?"
"Indeed, Yun Leng. Over the years, you've done well assisting Yun Yun in managing the sect." Yun Shan's expression was calm and kind.
"It's my duty," Yun Leng replied. Despite his respectful tone, his injuries inflicted by Xiao Yan were severe. His face was half crippled, and his meridians were heavily damaged. Healing would require a sixth tier pill, something neither Yun Lan Sect nor Yun Leng himself could afford.
"Yun Leng, do you have a grudge against Xiao Yan?" Yun Shan asked lightly.
"Old Sect Master, don't mention that bastard! Just thinking about him makes me want to kill him!" Yun Leng's face twisted with fury. He couldn't understand why Xiao Yan had attacked him so ruthlessly.
"Yun Leng, Xiao Yan is now a benefactor of the Yun Lan Sect. I hope you can let go of your resentment," Yun Shan said, smiling.
"Let go? How can I? As the Great Elder of Yun Lan Sect, am I supposed to just let a brat like him trample all over me?" Yun Leng's face contorted in anger.
"Haha," Yun Shan chuckled and patted Yun Leng on the shoulder.
"Over the years, you've made great contributions to the sect."
"Thank you, Old Sect Master." Yun Leng smiled briefly before Yun Shan continued.
"However, you've also embezzled quite a bit, haven't you? Yun Yun dislikes meddling, so you and a few others quietly undermined her authority. Am I right?"
"Old Sect Master, I..." Yun Leng's face turned pale with fear.
"If you die now, you'll still be remembered as a distinguished Great Elder of this generation," Yun Shan said, still smiling. But Yun Leng saw the murderous intent in his eyes.
"Old Sect Master, you can't kill me! You "
