Chapter 87 Xian Lin'er: You're Sleeping in My Room Tonight

"Hehe~ slow down, there's no one stealing food from you. Everything here is yours~"

Xian Lin'er sat beside Ye Chen, resting her chin on her palm, smiling as she watched him eat.

Her gaze carried the same warmth and tenderness a mother might give her child.

She had no children of her own, yet she had long since started treating Ye Chen as one—someone she wanted to give the very best to.

"Mm~ thank you, teacher~"

Ye Chen kept eating heartily. His appetite was naturally huge, and within minutes he had cleared the table.

"Phew~"

He patted his full stomach contentedly. For once, he was truly stuffed.

"Still hungry? I can order you more~" Xian Lin'er asked gently, watching him with amusement.

Seeing him eat so much actually made her happy.

Researchers at Shrek had once claimed that a large appetite meant strong physical potential—the more one could eat, the sturdier the body.

So far from worrying, she only felt more impressed with Ye Chen's vitality.

"No, no, I'm full, teacher. I'll go back to the lab now~" he said quickly, waving his hands.

He needed to digest the meal—and more importantly, his soul tool wasn't finished yet. He planned to work through the night.

For soul masters, "staying up late is bad for health" didn't really apply; at worst, they just felt a little tired and could recover after a short rest.

With that, Ye Chen bowed politely and prepared to leave.

Late at night.

Ye Chen was still in the engraving chamber, tirelessly inscribing core arrays.

This flight soul tool design was extraordinarily complex, containing more than a dozen modules, each taking him nearly half an hour to complete.

Outside the chamber, Xian Lin'er frowned slightly, worry clouding her face.

"This little one… working so hard again," she murmured.

His dedication made her proud, but the way he ignored rest tugged at her heart. She worried it might overtax his young body and affect his growth.

Yet, seeing his focus, she hesitated to interrupt—disturbing him mid‑engraving might ruin his concentration.

She often pulled all‑nighters herself crafting soul tools, but she was a Titled Douluo. Her body could handle it.

Ye Chen, still so young, shouldn't have to push himself the same way.

Time trickled by. It was nearly dawn when Ye Chen finally finished inscribing all the core modules.

Next came assembly and forging the shell—another two days' work.

Click.

Hearing movement, Xian Lin'er finally couldn't hold back and opened the door.

"Ah, teacher… you're still awake?"

Startled, Ye Chen turned around. Immersed in his work, he hadn't noticed she'd been standing outside the entire time.

"I'm a Titled Douluo; I can go several days without sleep. But you—staying up all night at your age? What if it hinders your growth?" she scolded lightly, walking toward him, pretending to be stern.

"It's fine, I can handle it~ Once I finish this soul tool, I'll rest extra tomorrow," he said sheepishly, scratching his head.

He appreciated her concern, but his body and mental strength were more than capable. Crafting soul tools was also something he truly loved; tiredness hardly bothered him.

"No excuses. You're resting now."

Hands on her hips, Xian Lin'er spoke with mock severity.

Normally, no one in the academy ever saw her like this—but with Ye Chen, her softer, more caring side always slipped out. Still, to get him to rest, she needed to assert her teacherly authority.

"Alright, alright, I'll go back," Ye Chen surrendered.

"No need. Sleep here—in my room."

She grasped his hand and pulled him toward an adjoining room.

The lab had a private rest area—essentially a bedroom, her personal sanctuary.

As someone devoted to research and pursuing the ninth rank of soul engineering, Xian Lin'er often worked herself to exhaustion, staying in the lab for days at a time. Naturally, she needed a place to sleep nearby.

And besides, her marriage with Qian Duoduo was only nominal. She rarely lived with him anyway. This was truly her own space.

Before Ye Chen could react, she led him inside.

The room was spacious and tidy—a soft bed neatly made near a window overlooking the starlit sky.

A small tea table and chairs stood beside it, along with a private bathroom. In the corner, a door to a study remained slightly open; rows of neatly arranged books were visible through the gap.

Scattered around the room were a few pieces of clothing, and inside the open wardrobe hung some of Xian Lin'er's more personal garments…

"Don't stare! Go to bed already!"

Blushing, Xian Lin'er quickly shot him a glare.

Swiftly, she gathered up the clothes on the bed, closed the wardrobe, and ushered him toward the bed, tucking him under the blanket herself.

"Uh… goodnight, teacher."

Ye Chen smiled and blinked innocently.

He breathed in—a faint feminine fragrance lingered in the bedding, undeniably hers.

So soft… and soothing. A woman's bed really was the best kind of luxury.

"Sleep. And no mischief."

Catching his subtle grin, Xian Lin'er sighed gently and playfully pinched his cheek before sitting by the bedside.

"Mm…"

Ye Chen obediently closed his eyes. Within minutes, his breathing slowed, and he was asleep.

Xian Lin'er watched quietly, a faint smile forming at her lips.

"So adorable…"

Tilting her head slightly, she gazed down at him, her fondness warming her expression.

Almost without thinking, she leaned closer and placed a soft kiss on his cheek.

"Goodnight~" she whispered, licking her lips lightly before leaving the room contentedly.

Morning came.

Ye Chen woke late—the bed was just too comfortable to leave.

If only he could've fallen asleep with Xian Lin'er in his arms…

But that was merely a passing thought—something to dream about for later.

"Xiao Chen, breakfast's ready."

Xian Lin'er was already in the lab when she spotted him emerging. She waved him over immediately.

"Coming~"

Ye Chen joined her, taking the breakfast tray she offered and eating happily.

"Mm, delicious. Thank you, teacher~"

He was utterly content—there was nothing better than waking up to someone's care.

Walking over, Xian Lin'er ruffled his hair gently and said, "Xiao Chen, I have to leave for a few days on business. Stay here and study while I'm away, and wait obediently for my return, alright?"

As the dean of the department, she was constantly busy and needed to travel for academy affairs.

"Mm‑hm~ I will~" Ye Chen nodded sweetly.

He had already planned to remain here for a while anyway. Besides, with her permission to use any equipment and material freely, there was no reason to object.

"Good boy~"

Xian Lin'er chuckled softly, unable to resist pinching his cheek one more time before turning to leave.
