Chapter 230: 249. The Death of Dugu Bo
Tang San thought Dugu Yan would take him to the Tang family's treasure trove—the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. But after a long detour, she instead led him to a remote graveyard deep within a mountain range.
Before him, through a shroud of mist, stood rows of low, lonely tombstones. A cold, uneasy feeling settled in Tang San's chest.
He glanced across the headstones. Each bore the same family name:
Tomb of Dugu Qiubai.
Tomb of Dugu Potian.
Tomb of Dugu Zhao.
Tomb of Dugu Yanxin.
Tomb of Dugu…
Tomb of Dugu Bo?
The words struck Tang San like a thunderclap. He froze for several seconds before staggering forward, trembling as he stood before the gravestone. It looked freshly erected.
"Senior Dugu Bo… has fallen?" he whispered in disbelief.
Standing behind him, Dugu Yan said softly, "After my grandfather broke through to Titled Douluo and was formally recognized by the Spirit Hall, he passed away soon after… his snake venom flared beyond control."
She remembered that day vividly—her grandfather lying weakly on his bed, forbidding her to come near as the venom spread through his body. In a fragile voice, he arranged his final affairs, then breathed his last. When death came, the virulent Jade Phosphor Snake venom burned away his flesh, leaving Dugu Yan with nothing but his bones.
That day, her world collapsed completely—and even the man who once pursued her, Yu Tianheng, abandoned her.
Returning from her memories, Dugu Yan looked Tang San in the eye. "My grandfather died soon after becoming a Titled Douluo. His name never spread across the continent—few even knew of the Poison Douluo. So tell me—how could you claim he's renowned throughout the land?"
How was Tang San supposed to answer that? Should he tell her he was using the memories of a previous life to guide his actions now? Who could have guessed Dugu Bo would die so easily, unable to even last long enough for Tang San to find him? "He actually died from his own poison?" Tang San thought bitterly. "That can't be right."
Something was off.
"No," Tang San thought quickly, "in the last life, Dugu Bo relied on the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well to suppress his poison and extend his life even without my help. He shouldn't have died so soon. To be killed by his own venom… unless—"
"Dugu Yan," Tang San asked urgently, "does your family have a special spring—one where one half is icy cold and the other blazing hot, the waters perfectly divided? Around it should grow many rare medicinal herbs?"
Dugu Yan shook her head. "No. I've never heard of such a place. What are you talking about?"
Hearing that, Tang San looked again at Dugu Bo's grave, and realization dawned.
"So that's it… you never found the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, and you died ahead of time."
Tang San sighed inwardly. What a waste. Dugu Bo had been a perfect tool—a modestly powerful but extremely useful Titled Douluo, a strategic-level killing machine.
In his past life, Jialing Pass—once impregnable—fell precisely because Dugu Bo annihilated the enemy's Soul Master legions. Tens of thousands of Spirit Hall loyalists died, and the coalition against Spirit Hall gained the upper hand overnight. Dugu Bo had even taken the blame for everything himself.
Without Dugu Bo, things would be much harder. Tang San couldn't personally massacre an entire city—he had to preserve his noble, heroic image.
Besides, the fact that Dugu Bo never found the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well worried him even more. Was it because of bad luck—or because the well had already been discovered?
A chilling thought struck him.
In the last life, after Tang San and his companions ascended to the God Realm, no one ever located the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. That was because Tang San himself had sealed it off with poison and illusion arrays, turning it into the untouchable private domain of the Tang Clan.
But this time, everything was different. The well should still be unclaimed. If even Dugu Bo could find it in the previous timeline, others might too.
Given the number of reborn individuals in this life—and the Spirit Hall's involvement—they might not know the exact location, but they would know it was hidden somewhere within the Sunset Forest.
And the Sunset Forest was enormous, the size of an entire province. Finding the well wouldn't be easy—but with patience, it could be done. If Dugu Bo could find it once, others could too.
Could it be that Spirit Hall had already taken control of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well? If so, that would be disastrous. After all, Spirit Hall still had that Chrysanthemum Douluo—the one who could identify every immortal herb just by smell.
At that thought, Tang San's eyes burned red. His breathing grew ragged. Rage exploded in his heart.
"The Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well belongs to the Tang family! The immortal herbs inside belong to the Tang family! Even the Icefire Dragon King within belongs to us! Whoever dares touch it… is courting death!"
Consumed by fury and worry, Tang San turned and left the Dugu family's burial grounds.
As for curing Dugu Yan's poison? Forget it. Without Dugu Bo, the Dugu family served no purpose. No need to waste time.
When he returned to Blue Tyrant Academy, Liu Erlong had already used her relationship with Flender to officially merge the academy into Shrek Academy.
Upon seeing Tang San, Oscar, Ma Hongjun, and Dai Mubai hurried over. "Ah San, why are you back so soon? Did you meet Dugu Bo?"
Tang San's face darkened. "Don't mention it. That useless fool Dugu Bo poisoned himself to death!"
Then he explained his suspicion that something had gone wrong with the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well.
The three were shocked. Ma Hongjun scratched his head nervously. "If the Ice and Fire Well's gone, what happens to my Scarlet Phoenix Chrysanthemum?"
He wasn't worried about his evil fire anymore—Xiao Wu's presence had already solved that, and even turned it into a bit of "fun." What truly worried him was losing his chance at divinity. Without the immortal herbs, they'd never cultivate to godhood—and without that power, how could he ever hope to steal Xiao Wu's heart from Tang San?
"Yeah, yeah," Dai Mubai and Oscar agreed. The lack of immortal herbs meant the loss of their one path to ascendence.
"Calm down," Tang San said firmly. "For now, this is only speculation. We'll have to confirm the truth ourselves. Maybe Dugu Bo just wasn't lucky enough to find the place this time."
"But… won't it be dangerous?" Ma Hongjun asked.
"There's always danger," said Tang San, confidence returning to his voice. "But it won't cost us our lives. After all, I am the child of destiny. I won't fall so easily."
