Leaving his crew behind, he managed to arrive there.
On the floor, Kairo lay—half of his body frozen, but slowly returning to normal. He didn't have any scars on his body; to be fair, 90% of the damage he received was internal. Out here having another man mess up his insides. {Pause}
Kuzan had Ryo—very, very, very potent Ryo.
And Kairo took that shit like a champ.
As he lay on the floor, his chest rose and fell, clearly showing he was still alive. His hands still gripped his axe and sword. Luffy gazed at the man's weapons—they were shifting between being black blades and normal blades over and over again.
As soon as Chopper arrived, his doctor instincts kicked in, and he began treating Kairo.
"Usopp, bring some towels! I need to disinfect his wounds!" Chopper said, trying his hardest to ignore the fact that the fire was cold.
You heard me right—I didn't stutter.
The fire was cold.
Even the others noticed it. Some of the ice felt hot to the touch. Shit was weird—and from time to time, small crackles of lightning could be seen.
"This island sure did take a beating," Sanji said, smoking his cigar. Shit looked like the island had been touched by Diddy or some shit like that.
Luffy didn't care about that.
"Is he okay?" was the first thing he asked.
"He's fine. His breathing is stable. He took a lot of internal damage, but his body seems fine. He should recover fairly quickly," Doctor Chopper said. Luffy nodded at that.
This was good.
Usopp, meanwhile, wondered to himself, "How can he take all that damage and still wake up? The hell kind of durability is that?"
"Lunarian durability," a voice suddenly said.
"HEH?! A GHOST?!" Usopp jumped high—like, deadass, his ass was on top of a tree, slingshot drawn—only to see Kairo had woken up.
Heh.
"Seems like you can take a beating," Kairo cracked his neck, ignoring what Zoro said.
"I ate a military pill a few minutes before I ran out of energy. I used a slow-acting one that only activates when I don't have any energy left."
"So... you were planning on killing him, then?" Zoro said. Kairo nodded.
"However, the fucking bastard froze my stomach and the majority of my blood vessels."
"How the hell are you still alive then?!" Usopp was truly bamboozled.
"I'm Lunarian. With my flames on, I can take a lot of damage. Plus, I simply had my flames melt the ice from the inside."
"That was insanely dangerous! You could have died!" Nami said. Kairo's brow furrowed—was that worry in her voice? That was a new one.
"I used Haki to guide the flames, so there was no real damage," he said thoughtfully, though his eyes seemed to be calculating something.
"Though I didn't kill him..." He sounded annoyed—he couldn't kill Kuzan.
"The hell you mean by that? You stalemated an admiral. That's a flex not anyone can claim," Usopp said. Kairo's brow darkened.
"Which means he's not dead. The Government will probably be aware of me when he gets back. Those old fucks will not let me live no matter what... they'll probably send the God Knights to get rid of me. Or another admiral. I cannot—"
He didn't even finish his sentence before Luffy cut him off.
"No... you're not leaving."
This guy wasn't seeing reason. Kairo looked annoyed.
"Why can't you understand? I don't want you to die because I couldn't control myself! For the safety of everyone here, please just accept it. The God Knights are not people you can fight."
"And I refuse your request to leave the crew," Luffy said, putting his foot down. Hell nah.
Kairo gripped Luffy by the damn collar.
"Listen to me, you bastard! Those God Knights kill literal infants for fun, and the Government is not above bombing an entire nation to get rid of one person!"
Kairo fist were already clenched, Luffy could tell just talking wouldn't help...soo.
BAM!
Kairo was sent flying, crashing into a nearby tree.
His cheeks actually hurt.
Luffy's fist was black, coated in Haki—with a faint tinge of lightning. When the fuck did this bastard learn Conqueror's coating?
"You're dead wrong if you expect me to leave my friend behind just to save my own skin! The hell kind of person do you think I am?!" Luffy shouted, looking genuinely pissed that Kairo even thought this shit would slide.
"You cannot possibly hope to defeat them at your current level," Kairo growled.
"Then watch me! I don't care if they're the kings of the world themselves—if anyone hurts my friends, I'm kicking their asses!"
Kairo looked to the crew, hoping someone would talk sense into Luffy—but it seemed like they all shared the same damn brain cell.
Kairo looked seriously annoyed.
"If you're so damn persistent about running, then fine. But I won't let you stop me. I'll get past you."
"Try me, you damn fool."
As those words left the Straw Hat's mouth, he entered Gear Second.
Kairo's Conqueror's Haki leaked out of his body once more—the man who was heavily injured just a minute ago now looked like a complete demon.
