Chapter 118 - Chapter 118: Hard to Let Go?

"Someone with bad intentions is coming over… and they're moving pretty fast."

Corin's thoughts shifted slightly as he looked at Peter.

The kid was still excitedly waving at his girlfriend.

He gave a small shake of his head.

'This isn't good. Spider sense is clearly your main skill. Why is it that I'm the one spotting trouble first every single time?'

With that thought, Corin lowered his voice and reminded him, "Peter, calm down. Feel it…"

Little Spider listened to Corin without hesitation. After a brief pause, he focused and started sensing.

Suddenly he turned his head toward a spot in the air, right where Gwen was.

Without another word, he flung out a web and shot over.

Just as Peter rushed toward Gwen, the new and transformed Green Goblin, Harry Osborn, blocked the space between them on his glider.

Harry's face already looked terrible.

The genetic mutation caused by the spider venom had twisted what used to be a handsome and noble face into something frightening.

His teeth had become ugly as well.

And the clever Harry had finally realized that the Spider Man in front of him was his best friend, Peter Parker.

Besides Peter, no one would make Gwen throw herself in so recklessly.

Thinking back to the time he had begged Peter for a sample of Spider Man's blood and been refused, he remembered how hopeless he had felt.

But even that kind of despair, the kind where fate couldn't be changed, was nothing compared to the pain of being betrayed by the person he trusted most.

Harry laughed.

Hold it in for a moment and the anger only grows. Take a step back and you explode on the spot.

The Green Goblin's hidden personality was now like a Mind Stone lodged in his soul, constantly pushing him toward revenge, toward destruction.

With his mind completely shattered, Harry finally abandoned the friendship he once treasured so deeply.

The glider suddenly accelerated, snatching Gwen away and flying higher into the sky.

Even though Peter chased with all his strength and climbed to the top of the tallest clock tower in sight, he still lost to the simple fact that spiders cannot fly.

Peter leapt high from the rooftop and shot out two strands of web.

The soaring webs ran out of momentum before they could reach Harry in the sky.

"Now he'll know the pain of losing the one he loves."

At this moment, Harry was gone. The Green Goblin was in control.

A twisted grin covered Harry's face as his soul was filled with the thrill of revenge.

The image of his father, Norman Osborn, the hero in his eyes, dying kept crashing through his mind.

Without hesitation, he hurled Gwen down from high above.

Peter jumped again from the rooftop, stretching out both hands and catching Gwen just as she had fallen less than ten meters.

But gravity dragged them both down toward the ground.

Crash!

The glass dome of the clock tower shattered under Peter's body as they fell onto a steel bridge inside.

Of course, Peter was still underneath.

Though he had saved Gwen at the first moment, a pumpkin bomb dropped right beside them.

Boom!

Peter could only block it with his body again.

The steel bridge was blown apart. Gwen fell once more. A web barely managed to wrap around her wrist, stopping her downward fall.

At this moment Gwen could do nothing. She could only cooperate as much as she could with Peter's rescue, her watery eyes fixed on him. Hoping he would be safe.

Little Spider immediately tangled with the Green Goblin in a fierce fight.

Luckily, the terrain inside the clock tower was complex. Agile and nimble, Peter had the advantage of the environment and quickly gained the upper hand.

But the aftershocks of the battle kept affecting Gwen nearby.

As the shattered structure collapsed, Gwen dropped again, and once more Peter barely caught her with a web at the limit.

That moment of distraction gave the Green Goblin an opening. In an instant, he pinned Peter down against a massive gear.

Seeing that the web was about to be cut by the gears, Peter had no choice but to jam one foot into the mechanism, ignoring the pain.

But what he didn't expect was that the powerful force destroyed the entire gear assembly.

Gwen fell again.

This was her third fall today.

Kicking Harry away, Peter's eyes were wide with fury as he dove down without hesitation.

Through the lenses of his spider mask, all he could see was Gwen's falling figure, heartbreakingly tragic.

The web shooting from his wrist curled at the end, shaped like an outstretched hand trying to hold onto his girlfriend.

Corin had sensed the Green Goblin's presence long ago.

In fact, he didn't even need to sense it. He already knew.

Yet he had held back from acting.

"Hard to let go, huh? Hmph!"

'Good thing I'm here.'

When he first watched this movie, he had wanted to complain to the screenwriter, ["You really narrowed the road there, you brat!"]

'If being a hero means suffering like this, who would still want to be one? And a so called super one at that?'

'Now that I'm in this world, how could I let this kind of brain dead plot happen?'

'Didn't I even save Gwen's dad already? Let alone Gwen herself.'

'This is exactly why I've resisted the superhero identity from the start.'

'You can save the whole world, but you can't save one family member?'

'Have those screenwriters ever understood the weight behind the words 'family' that streamers shout in live broadcasts?'

'Save countless people in misery, then turn around and endure their complaints, doubts, even backstabbing?'

'Screw that!'

'If you ask me, aside from family and friends, whether others live or die is their business.'

'Saving someone is kindness. Not saving them is my right.'

'Don't try to morally kidnap me with that line about greater power meaning greater responsibility. That's just fancy talk.'

'How come nobody complains that Bill Gates didn't split his money with you?'

'Sure, you don't save someone to make them worship you, but at the very least a simple thank you should exist, right?'

'But in this place that claims to be free speech, freedom seems completely twisted.'

'So many people who were saved can be easily stirred up to attack their savior. Ungrateful to the core.'

'Even Marvel's writers are idiots.'

'And the one who suffered most of all is Peter.'

'His parents died when he was little. After he gained his powers, his uncle died too.'

'Just when he thought he could have a normal relationship, damn it, his girlfriend dies as well!'

'And most of the time, right in front of him.'

'What's the deal?'

'Just keep stabbing the same person over and over?'

'If I were Peter, I'd have turned dark long ago. Even if I were cursed to be alone, how much worse could it get?'

'Today, this stupid mess must be corrected.'

'No one gets to stop me. I said so.'

'But… Since this counts as saving an iconic scene, my current image really doesn't match something this awesome.'

Thinking that, Corin watched the situation above while quickly walking into the center of the first floor of the clock tower.

To make sure he could back Peter up, Corin decided the actor should take his position first, then fix this unbearable appearance of his.

At the same time, Corin had no idea how saving Gwen would affect their future relationship.

So he deliberately waited until the last moment to act.

Let Peter and Gwen understand what it means to cherish.

Young people are unpredictable. If he lifted a hand and solved everything too early, who knows, maybe they'd break up later.

That wouldn't be the ending the audience wanted to see either.

If he was going to do it, he would do it beautifully.

Listening to the chaotic sounds of battle above, Corin felt the timing was about right.

"Transform!"

Corin let out a playful shout as he activated his magnetic field.

Metal fragments falling from the sky like rain seemed to receive a call.

They all flew toward his body.

Different materials fused and reshaped in midair, impurities stripped away as they transformed.

Gradually, a suit of armor with a metallic sheen formed over Corin.

The golden chain mail armor and cloud stepping boots of the Great Sage Equal to Heaven were successfully recreated under Corin's mastery of sketching and magnetic control.

Of course, the color had a few flaws.

And with Corin's hair cut so short, it wasn't suitable to fully recreate the phoenix wing purple gold crown.

Even so, in the blink of an eye, Corin completely shed the image of a sleazy middle aged man.

The interlocking armor pieces remained tightly connected even without straps running through them.

That was the advantage of magnetic control.

The dark curtain falling from above wasn't wasted either. Corin draped it behind him.

It became a cape.

Before Corin could properly admire his brand new outfit, a figure fell straight down from above his head.

Gwen sensed that this time her chances were slim. In despair, she closed her eyes. A tear slid from the corner of her eye.

Smack!

"Hic—"
