Chapter 145 - Preparations for the Rite of Parting (Part 3)

"If I remember correctly, your name is Scarface Liu, right?"

"You were sent in last time for fraud. How is it that after getting out, you've gotten bolder? Now you're attempting human trafficking and kidnapping. Next, are you going to declare war on the Millelith?"

Yanfei circled Scarface Liu, eyeing him up and down. This guy had some nerve. Even those tomb raiders who had confessed to reduce their sentences at least knew better than to break the law again. This guy had been inside multiple times and still wouldn't stay out of trouble.

"Alright, you don't need to say anything more. Knowingly breaking the law carries an extra penalty. See you in ten years."

Seeing the Millelith soldiers approaching, Yanfei directly announced his sentence. As the leading authority on Liyue's legal system, Yanfei's judgments were nearly identical to those of the Ministry of Civil Affairs. Hearing he would be locked up for so long, Scarface Liu's legs gave out and he collapsed to the ground.

"Big Sister Yanfei, please have mercy. This is my first offense. I have an eighty-year-old mother at home..."

"Stop, stop, stop."

Yanfei cut him off before he could finish. She looked at him with disdain, pulled a file on Scarface Liu from her thick law book, and tossed it in front of him.

"We've crossed paths many times. You don't think I know nothing about you, do you?"

"Your cases are so classic they've been written into textbooks. I've read your files many times."

"Don't worry, though. As your old friend, I'll make sure you get as many years as possible."

Watching the fraudster begging for mercy, Lumine felt a sense of satisfaction. Scum like that deserved harsh punishment. Though Su Bai's expression was somewhat peculiar.

"These guys really have guts, daring to cause trouble after catching Yanfei's attention. They're definitely getting the ten-year package."

"Ten-year package? What are you muttering about, Su Bai?"

Lumine touched Su Bai's tail. Su Bai didn't mind her wandering hand. He pointed toward Yanfei and introduced her.

"See that woman with the thick book? Her name is Yanfei. Besides being an adeptus like me, she's also a legal expert."

"If Yanfei is at her best, she can get the opposing counsel sent to jail. Anyone who breaks the law and catches her attention never escapes punishment. Even if the defendant hires a dozen legal experts, they can't handle Yanfei alone."

"Th-that impressive?"

Lumine covered her mouth in disbelief. The only legal expert who could compare to Yanfei, she thought, might be that Mr. Luo she had encountered in another world.

"Wait, I feel like we forgot something."

Su Bai rubbed his chin and looked around, but it seemed like nothing was missing. Strange. What could it be?

Lumine glanced around too. All her purchases were there. Other than the un-bought incense, Eternal Fragrance, and Glaze Lilies, she hadn't forgotten anything.

"If nothing's missing, let's go buy the remaining items. Get it done early so we can go to bed early."

"Liyue Harbor's night market is lively, but after all, it's a night market. The flavor isn't as good as proper restaurants."

As if reminiscing, Su Bai swallowed. Compared to street food, he preferred Wanmin Restaurant's generous portions and rich flavors. Especially Xiangling's cooking—he hadn't eaten her food in days.

"If we have time, we could go to Wanmin Restaurant and ask Xiangling to make us some late-night snacks to take home. Paimon, do you like your snacks savory or sweet?"

"Paimon? Paimon?!"

Wait. Where was Paimon? Su Bai and Lumine froze, then looked at each other. Oh no. They'd left Paimon behind. Without another thought, they turned and ran back.

"Paimon, thank goodness you're still here."

Seeing Paimon tied up on the ground, Su Bai and Lumine visibly relaxed. At least she hadn't been kidnapped.

"Mmmph mmmph mmmph!"

Seeing Su Bai and Lumine coming to save her, Paimon wriggled excitedly, mumbling unintelligibly. Judging by her tone, she wasn't saying anything nice.

With a pop, Su Bai pulled the Sunsettia out of Paimon's mouth. Besides a row of tiny teeth marks, the fruit was covered in glistening liquid—Paimon's saliva.

"Su Bai, Lumine, I thought I'd never see you again! Boohoo..."

"You two bad people left me behind! Paimon is going to punish you!"

"Little Paimon, instead of punishing us, don't you think the distance between your chin and your... upper chin is a bit large?"

Su Bai gestured to the distance. Paimon touched her mouth, and her eyes widened in horror. She couldn't control her mouth!

"Su Bai, Lumine, what's happening? Why can't I control my mouth?"

"I can't close my mouth! Lumine, Su Bai, help!"

"I don't want to starve to death! There's so much good food I haven't tried yet! Boohoo..."

"Alright, alright, Paimon, stop crying. From now on, if you find good food, I can taste it for you and describe the flavor."

If Su Bai hadn't said that, Paimon might have calmed down. But he did, and she cried even harder. Lumine shot him a look, signaling that since he made her cry, he had to comfort her.

Su Bai smiled sheepishly and examined Paimon's jaw. Seeing it was just a simple dislocation, he stopped teasing her and took her to Bubu Pharmacy. Minor injuries like this, Baizhu could fix with his eyes closed.

At Bubu Pharmacy, with a click and a push, Baizhu reset Paimon's jaw. He wiped the sweat from his forehead.

"All done, little one. Try moving it, but don't overdo it. A newly reset jaw might dislocate again with excessive movement."

Paimon carefully moved her jaw. Finding it back to normal, she giggled happily for a while, not forgetting to thank Baizhu. He waved it off—it was nothing, hardly any time at all.

"By the way, Baizhu, do you have high-quality Eternal Fragrance? We might need some."

Buying from Baizhu would give him some business after he'd helped Paimon. And since they weren't spending their own Mora, why not?

"Eternal Fragrance? I do have some. But for certain reasons, it's not cheap. It'll cost you a hundred thousand Mora."
