Chapter 14 - Chapter Thirteen

Qin Yue returned to his apartment without getting any benefits. It was within his expectations but that didn't stop him from being any less disappointed.

Thinking that they were still two options left, Qin Yue cheered himself up.

The next day, he went to the second location, quickly noticing the atmosphere was off.

Walking in, he was met with a group of people in mourning clothes. There was a picture of a lady with a wreath hanging on it.

The air was solemn but couldn't hide the annoyance of several people there.

Just when Qin Yue was about to turn around and leave, a lady spotted him and walked over.

He gave a polite nod

"Hello, my condolences."

She smiled slightly.

"if I'm guessing correctly, you're here to look at the room? I was there when you made the appointment with my mom"

Qin Yue nodded in affirmative.

She waved around lightly.

"Unfortunately, my mom died earlier this morning and I'm making plans to sell this place"

Her words seemed to flip a switch and those who were previously pretending to be deaf and dumb and they gathered around quite aggressively.

A stout woman stood with two men, supposedly her sons, on either side as she put her hands on her hips and pointed her nose towards the lady.

"Wang Lihua, who do you think you are? What gives you the right to make such decisions? "

The lady- Wang Lihua gave the older woman a pointed look

"I'm more than qualified to make decisions like this as my mother's only child and sole heir"

You're just a woman. What kind of heir could you be? As your closest male relatives, your cousins should be the one to handle things like this"

Wang Lihua sneered.

"Since when do your sons get to choose what happens to my mother's hard earned money? Don't think I can't tell what you're thinking. If there's anyone who couldn't wait for my mom to die faster then it would be your and your 'children'. As a sister, how many times have you called my mom to inquire about her health or just to speak with her?"

"I call her.."

Wang Lihua cut her off, clearly not done.

"As my aunt, do you even remember my birthday? Have you ever wished me well? All you've done is wait for my mother to die so you could get your hands on what she worked hard to get"

"You're a money looser, what right do you have to inherit all this?"

"All this, was made by a 'money looser'. Why can't I inherit it? Instead of hoping your sons make something of themselves, you kept eyeing my mother's property. Aren't you ashamed of yourself? Even if you aren't, you should be"

The lady turned around, meeting the gases of some of the guests who seemed to be enjoying the show and her face stiffened slightly.

Her sons, obviously embarrassed from the type of attention they were getting shifted on one foot to another, casting pleading glances at Wang Lihua.

Wang Lihua sighed to herself. Unlike her aunt, her cousins were quite simple people and were content with their mediocre lives, understanding that trying to go above their means would cause more harm than good.

Her aunt however, had always been in a one-sided competitive relationship with her mother, undeterred despite never getting the upper hand.

knowing that she wouldn't be able to get the upper hand, the older woman scoffed, muttering under her breath as she shuffled away with her sons.

"Going against an elder just for this broken property tsk.."

Their footsteps disappeared down the hall and the remaining guests gave awkward smiles. A middle aged man joked casually.

"It seems like Huahua isn't willing to part with her mother's things ha-ha."

Wang Lihua gave a smile, though Qin Yue noticed it didn't reach her eyes.

"What can I do? As my mom's only child, this is my personal responsibility."

She emphasized on the word personally and the man gave a small chuckle, not responding anymore.

Wang Lihua turned back to Qin Yue.

"I'm sorry you had to witness this farce."

Qin Yue shook his head.

"I should be the one apologizing for my intrusion."

Wang Lihua merely smiled.

"I hope you can see now why this house can't be kept"

"I understand very well. I hope things get better for you."

Her eyes softened ever so slightly

"You too child."

To show respect, Qin Yue didn't leave until the funeral was over.

At this point, he wasn't even interested in going to the third place anymore as he could already foresee the outcome. But he called nonetheless.

"Hello, this is Qin Yue, I was wondering if tomorrow would be a good time to come around...oh I see, I understand. Thank you."

He was officially out of options. The third person somehow forgot about their appointment and decided to sell the place. Now he was really out of options.

Resigned, Qin Yue went back home and arranged for a moving company to take the bulk of his things into storage.

With that arranged, he packed a couple of his essentials in an overnight bag and headed to a hotel.

On the way, there was a loud bang and the cab swerved sharply, throwing Qin Yue against the door. His head hit the window causing him to groan softly. The driver managed to get the car in control last minute and rushed to the backseat.

"Sir, are you okay?"

Qin Yue felt like there were birds chirping over his head, he tried to focus on what the driver was saying but a suspicious liquid trickled slowly into his eyes.

The driver was clearly panicking as he dialed the emergency number. Qin Yue could barely make out what he was seeing at this point. Slightly bored by the whole situation, he squinted his eyes, noting how different things looked with blood clouded vision.

He had never noticed this before. Before passing out, Qin Yue heard the familiar sound of sirens in the distance.
