Chapter 255: The Hyuga Clan Amidst the Chaos
"…Are you rebelling against the village, Fugaku!"
As Kenichi closed in, Hiruzen's shocked, furious voice carried clearly through the smoke and chaos. Kenichi raised an eyebrow. So it really was Fugaku.
Shisui had hinted before that Fugaku might possess the Mangekyo Sharingan, but that had still been speculation. Now, with a pale purple Susanoo towering near the Hokage Building, the answer was carved into the sky.
"So he really has the Mangekyo," Kenichi muttered, clicking his tongue as he studied the half formed giant. "Is it a clan inheritance, then?"
It was a rare sight.
Kenichi knew Fugaku by reputation. Even his teacher had once described him as capable, but relatively soft. Kenichi had never expected someone with that temperament to flip the table right next to the Hokage Building.
What had the Uchiha been put through during this time?
In the original story, even when his own son came to carry out the clan's execution, Fugaku never revealed any hidden trump card. He accepted death calmly, and people criticized him for it.
Yet here, Susanoo had already answered with violence.
"I only wish to leave with my clan."
The Susanoo brought its blade down in a single crushing slash.
But Hiruzen was still Hokage. In the instant the strike fell, he reacted and blocked it, preventing the attack from cleaving straight through the center of power.
At the same time, all of Konoha erupted. The village roared like it had been struck by a sudden siege.
"This is actually pretty interesting," Kenichi said with a faint smile.
He had already caught sight of Danzō moving in as well. This was the Hokage Building. The heart of Konoha. If Fugaku smashed it to pieces, the aftermath would be unbearable even for the village's higher ups.
Kenichi shook his head and turned away without hesitation.
Whatever vicious brawl Konoha wanted to have with itself had nothing to do with him. And now that Fugaku had finally torn off years of restraint and exposed the Mangekyo, this would not end in a neat resolution within minutes.
Better to handle his own business first.
However, when Kenichi reached the Hyuga compound, he found it was already on full alert.
The Hyuga were part of Konoha. There was no world where they stayed uninvolved while the village burned.
The outer guards had their Byakugan active to the limit, veins bulging around their eyes as they scanned every angle. Under so many Byakugan at once, hiding was genuinely difficult. Someone had even already pinned down Kenichi's position.
"The Byakugan's scouting is ridiculous," Kenichi muttered. "Especially when you stack that many pairs."
Still, Black Zetsu's Mayfly technique should be able to resist Byakugan detection, at least to a degree.
Before Kenichi could test the thought, a Hyuga guard snapped his head toward him and shouted, "Who's there?"
He had been watching the compound. From their perspective, that was suspicious no matter how you framed it.
"I'm just here to find someone," Kenichi said lightly, raising a hand as if the village were not currently tearing itself apart. He could not help but sigh. This riot really had the worst timing.
If it were not for Susanoo appearing in the open, Kenichi would have suspected the whole thing was a trap by Hiruzen and the Uchiha head to lure him in.
"Find someone?" The Hyuga member hesitated for a beat, then waved impatiently, signaling that it was not convenient right now. The Hyuga were not as isolated and disliked as the Uchiha. Shinobi from other clans coming to visit was not unusual.
Kenichi scratched his head.
He could leave and come back after things settled, but that would waste too much time. He did not come all this way to turn around.
So he let out a quiet sigh and looked up at the Hyuga member again.
To the guard, all that existed was the spinning three tomoe in Kenichi's eyes.
Before the man could react, Kenichi had already slipped him into a genjutsu.
But a second guard behind him caught the shift and immediately raised the alarm.
"How troublesome," Kenichi muttered, rubbing his forehead. "Can't you just cooperate?"
He was not here to slaughter the Hyuga. He only needed a single drop of Hinata's blood, and while he was at it, a tiny scrape of eye tissue.
Now that he had been exposed, though, forcing his way in was the only option.
"The weather's nice today," Kenichi said, glancing up.
The sky was clear and cloudless. It did not matter.
Sage Mode surged through him. Lightning like markings spread across his eyes, and then a dense fog poured outward, rolling forward in a heavy wave. With Kenichi's massive chakra feeding it, the mist swallowed the entire Hyuga compound almost instantly.
At the same time, a sphere of lightning hovered above Kenichi's right palm.
As he pressed the lightning ball into the fog, the mist itself lit up with branching patterns, turning into a crackling field that crawled through the air.
"Hinata should be fine," Kenichi said, stroking his chin as he watched the fog churn. "The center area has been thinned out a bit."
The Lightning Release he used this time was not gentle.
Almost every Hyuga member was a shinobi, and even the ones who were not had physiques far stronger than ordinary civilians. If he used something weaker, it would be hard to paralyze most of them.
Even so, the Hyuga reacted fast.
The thick fog began to disperse at an impressive speed, far faster than what Kenichi had seen from Hoshigakure.
And in that exact moment, Kenichi sensed something coming for him from a distance.
It had no physical form, but it carried a sharp chakra intent, striking directly toward his chakra points.
Kenichi dodged on instinct.
At the same time, a man with a gloomy expression stepped forward, leading a squad of elite Hyuga shinobi out of the dispersing fog. The earlier attack had been his.
Kenichi's eyes narrowed slightly in surprise.
"You're not dead yet."
The man's brow furrowed. "You know me?"
Kenichi did, of course.
Hyuga Hizashi.
Hizashi stared at the stranger in front of him. The intruder's appearance was clearly masked by some kind of disguise technique, and the chakra flow around his body felt strange, almost wrong.
But what shocked Hizashi the most was not the disguise.
It was the sheer amount of chakra.
Is that even possible for a human?
It felt like he was staring at a tailed beast shaped into a man.
