Chapter 73 - Chapter 73: Go Dig the Sand!

Mizuki stared at the scroll he had just opened, completely shocked. It was filled with detailed maps, marked coordinates, old symbols, and even sealed notes describing an important, secret location that should never have been shown to a low-ranking Chūnin like him.

"This… this is a mission overview, Souji-sama? Something this detailed… this should be confidential."

He looked up nervously, halfway convinced he wasn't supposed to see this at all. If another superior caught him reading content like this, he might be executed on the spot.

But before panic fully took over—

Uchiha Souji calmly waved his hand.

"It's fine. I allowed you to open it."

Mizuki blinked.

He felt relieved… no—saved from a heart attack.

Souji, meanwhile, kept a composed expression.

But in his head?

He had only one plan:

Send this bastard Mizuki to the Land of Wind and make him dig sand until his great-grandchildren grow up.

It wasn't about revenge.

Okay… it was about revenge.

A man who betrayed Iruka in the original story, tried to backstab Konoha, tried to sabotage Naruto… A snake disguised as a man.

If Souji didn't send Mizuki far away, he wouldn't be able to eat or sleep peacefully.

This wasn't personal.

This was logical. Pragmatic. Necessary.

And also very satisfying.

"The Fourth Ninja World War is over," Souji thought. "No Sand shinobi will attack a random Konoha Chūnin wandering the desert. And he's not even going to Sunagakure—just the Land of Wind in general. With some excuses here and there, he'll be fine."

Fine enough to survive.

Not fine enough to return.

Perfect.

---

Mizuki slowly closed the scroll, returning it to the table.

"Souji-sama… my rank shouldn't allow me to see this much. You're sure… this is okay?"

Souji gave a warm, reassuring smile.

"It has been a long time since the events written here. Nothing in that scroll is fresh intelligence."

That was a lie.

A beautiful lie.

A lie wearing makeup.

But Mizuki believed it instantly.

Souji continued:

"This mission was once performed by the Fourth Hokage—Namikaze Minato—when he worked in Anbu. It's ancient history now."

Mizuki's eyes widened.

"The Fourth Hokage!? This is related to the Fourth?"

"Yes. And now, it is entrusted to you."

---

Mizuki opened one of the scrolls again, reading the title aloud:

"Dragon Veins…?"

Souji nodded.

"The Dragon Veins once created a great and prosperous country. But eventually, that country vanished into the sand."

As Souji spoke, he recalled something important:

Minato and Kushina once dealt with the Dragon Veins anomaly during a time-travel incident.

Of course, Mizuki didn't know that.

Normal people didn't know that.

Even most elites didn't know that.

Only Souji, as a transmigrator, knew every detail.

Mizuki listened with fascination.

It was like hearing a myth from an ancient era.

"Does Souji-sama want to obtain this power and use it to make Konoha stronger?" Mizuki asked, eyes shining.

Souji almost choked on air.

Don't admire me! Don't idolize me! I'm literally sending you to dig sand until your hair turns white!

But he swallowed the frustration and nodded.

"Yes… exactly."

Mizuki's eyes sparkled like a child staring at fireworks.

"Souji-sama… you truly think of everything!"

Souji forced a smile.

("If I see this man for even one more day, my lifespan will decrease.")

---

Mizuki clutched the scroll to his chest and spoke with devotion:

"I am willing to go through fire and water for Souji-sama! I will bring back the power of the Dragon Veins!"

Souji froze.

That sounded… too loyal.

Too passionate.

Too uncomfortably emotional.

Is this man misunderstanding something?

Then Souji remembered:

Mizuki is extremely good at flattering authority.

He always idolized the wrong people.

He always made the wrong choices.

And now, for some reason, Mizuki had decided Souji was the perfect leader to worship.

Which made Souji uncomfortable.

Very uncomfortable.

"What if this idiot actually finds the Dragon Veins?" Souji suddenly thought.

The idea horrified him.

If Cloud shinobi once kidnapped Hinata successfully, then Mizuki could probably stumble across a mythical power source too.

No. No. No.

He had to make the mission harder.

Much harder.

Impossible.

Souji cleared his throat.

"This mission is long-term. Your job is not to find the Dragon Veins immediately."

Mizuki looked confused.

"You must take your time. Explore slowly. Do not act in ways that attract attention."

Souji leaned forward.

"I would rather get nothing than let Sunagakure discover your mission."

Mizuki gasped.

"Souji-sama… you care about my safety!!!"

Souji mentally screamed.

("No, I care about YOU NOT COMING BACK!")

But outwardly, he nodded.

"Yes… of course."

Tears filled Mizuki's eyes.

"This subordinate is blessed to follow a noble soul like Souji-sama!"

Souji felt chills crawling up his spine.

He was being praised…

for sending someone to dig sand for twenty years.

This was morally… not great.

But he pushed forward.

"When you arrive in the Land of Wind, don't immediately search for the Dragon Veins."

"What should I do then?" Mizuki asked.

Souji placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Focus on… business."

"Business?"

"Yes. Build a caravan. Create a merchant identity. Establish contacts. Make friends. Expand slowly. The more connections you make, the easier it will be to gain information discreetly."

Mizuki nodded vigorously.

"Understood! I won't act too aggressively!"

"And remember—ninjas are cautious. If you ask too many questions, you'll attract suspicion."

Mizuki's expression hardened.

"I will be careful."

Souji smiled.

("Perfect. That means he'll be stuck in the Land of Wind for decades.")

---

But as Mizuki wiped his tears and stared at Souji like he was staring at a divine savior…

Souji felt something twist inside.

This guy actually believes in me.

I'm tricking him so badly.

Isn't this too evil?

He sighed quietly.

He had to give something back.

Something small.

Something to ease the guilt.

Souji reached into his robes and took out a small scroll.

"Mizuki. Take this."

Mizuki received it carefully.

"This is…?"

"It's a business guide. Ideas on how to survive and thrive in the Land of Wind."

Inside the scroll were strategies based on Souji's past life knowledge:

How to create a supply chain

How to set up a caravan

Tips for desert travel

Trade goods popular among Sand civilians

How to avoid Sunagakure patrol routes

Basic economics and resource handling

Advice on building personal influence

It wasn't perfect, but it was enough for Mizuki to build a stable life.

Souji looked away and sighed.

"Ten or twenty years from now… I probably won't see you again. So take this as my compensation."

"To live well is enough. Not everyone needs to be a powerful ninja."

Mizuki clutched the scroll tightly, tears streaming down his face.

"Souji-sama… you are too kind! You think so far ahead… you look after my safety… and now you are even planning my life in the Land of Wind!"

Souji forced a smile.

No, I'm planning how to never see you again.

But Mizuki continued, overflowing with emotion:

"This kindness… no Hokage has ever shown me such care!"

"Souji-sama will definitely become the Fifth Hokage one day!"

Souji almost collapsed.

Fifth?

Even the thought of being Hokage makes me want to lie down and sleep for a year.

But Mizuki was beyond stopping.

"My loyalty is yours! I will carry out this mission with all my heart! I will not fail you!"

Souji sighed deeply, rubbing his forehead.

("Why does this feel like I'm bullying a golden retriever?")

Still, he nodded.

"Good. Prepare yourself. You leave tomorrow morning."

"Yes!"

Mizuki stood up, bowed deeply, and left the room holding the scrolls like sacred treasure.

---

After Mizuki Left

The room fell silent.

Souji sat down slowly, his expression a complicated mix of relief, guilt, and exhaustion.

He had successfully sent Mizuki into the desert for a very long time.

He should feel happy.

But for some strange reason…

He didn't.

He sighed.

"Being a leader is exhausting…"

Then he pulled out Third Generation Onitoru.

"Alright, partner. Back to chakra control training."

The demon blade groaned.

"Kill me now…"

Souji pointed toward the toilet.

Onitoru instantly straightened up.

"LET'S BEGIN, MASTER!"

Souji smirked.

Good.

Even if the world fell apart…

His sword would obey.

And Mizuki… would be digging sand for decades.

It was peaceful.

It was calm.

It was perfect.

Thus ended the chapter.
